In the Netherlands we have a lobby that's way ahead of that. Seeds to grow food will become illegal unless the are certified bij the goverment. During the rationing in WW2 we had a "Dig for victory" campaign here in the UK encouraging people to grow their own vegetables.

Absolutely! Vegan for the win! The rain forest is burning deliberately right now b/c of animal agriculture. Much of our Earth's lungs - an area that sequesters a great deal of carbon is being burned so people can have their meat. We have choice; we can change; there are other options.The population is only growing as are the middle classes in places like China and India. We need to shift away from meat as a way to slow down and reverse global warming - the industry is a major contributor according to the UN.
Impossible meats and Beyond Meat are making quite a lot of head way. They taste 95% real which is close enough for me. The land and resources that it takes to raise real beef, compared to the new plant based meats are radically different financially.
Comparing "Beyond meat to regular beef."
BM uses 99% less water
93% less land
90% less green house gas emissions
46% less energy
In a fraction of the time it takes to raise and slaughter a cow.
From a strictly business standpoint the Return on Investment is through the roof. This will be the death of the cow killing industry There is no way to compete with that. :)

@Beth H86 She has outlined additional solutions in her Ted Talk, and has described her personal choices (she stopped flying, eating meat and dairy).. I think her main point though is that we should start learning about the climate change crisis from scientists, and that these scientists have outlined solutions. Many of these solutions require change from up top- which is why she is very focused on our governments & emission laws.

Wow, when she says that when she found out about climate change and she didn't feel like living anymore, that's how I felt too. I had already struggled with depression, but I felt a never-ending existential horror to find out how corrupt our world is. My parents and everyone around me were really annoyed. I try to find my own happiness, and also how to value these issues without living my life in constant disgust. I'm still not sure how. For example, I went vegan for ethical and environmental reasons. But I also know that my dollar isn't really a vote. Even if I go vegan, climate change is still happening, and factory farming is too. But even if it's just for me and my own values, I'm still glad that I went vegan because the environment, climate change, and other animals are important to me. Still, I wish there was something we could do, not just about climate change, but sweatshops (slave labor), racism, globalization and owning poorer economies, facism, inequality, everything else I guess.

I was also somewhat like Greta when I was about 20 years old : not acting and feeling powerless, when becoming acutely aware of Human suffering and injustice, made me go through untenable emotions and I had to "act" (which includes learning a lot before actually choosing your interventions). Now, at 47, I feel I gave it all and I let the new generations act (i.e. the action now is to support them and clean-up our act: what we consume, buy, stopping oil drilling/burning, fight lies/propaganda, etc.).
