    As a 4.0 player, these paddles are legit SCARY to play against higher level opponents with. The speed and spin is unreal. I'd never played against someone where the serve top spin creates and audible whistling sound, I had only ever heard it from my PB machine which I can control to create huge topspin

    What kind of over grips are you using?
    Also, absolutely love my Hyperion. I feel that my paddle would pass a grit test. Had a friend get a gen 2 Scorpius that was way more gritty than my gen 3 Hyperion. My handle was also four and three eighths. The resets and drops have been have been so easy coming from the loco. Huge fan of the paddle. Playing in a tournament tomorrow with it.

    Thank you for putting the time to review these paddles! I too prefer the arrow curve top, currently playing the 16mm Volair M1F. You mentioned you preferred the Hyperion, was it 14mm or 16mm? Do you have swing weights for both options?

      Nope, I have the Gen 2 and now the 3 16mm which I played rec doubles with for around 6 hours so far. I did not even bother going back to the 2. I am an intermediate player, if pressed for a rank I have folks saying I am 3.5. I can honestly say after using the gen 3 more I am confident I can get to 4.0. My biggest challenge is my backhand shots. With the 3 now they are so much easier. Another thing very interesting is I don’t hit the ball out long. Not sure why, maybe the new core. I do hit balls out on the sidelines but that is me trying to hit at too sharp an angle. Dinks, drops, lobs, hand battles? Man, it is all there. GET THIS PADDLE. BTW, I play golf and both my driver and putter cost more. And I play pickleball much more so a no brainer as far as cost in comparison. I cannot wait to play even more now. Thanks Joola! Look at Pickleball Will’s video where he lets average Joe players try them. I agree, just jumped right in like others with no learning curve needed.

      @@robertcuomo7084 Glad you're enjoying the paddle so much! For the record, I was wondering if Luca would prefer the Scorpeus over the Hyperion in Gen 3, not the Gen 3 over the Gen 2 Scorpeus (which I assume he'd take all day long).

    @mrswitters1974 Місяць тому

    Luca, did you try adding lead tape to the Hyperion to increase the sweet spot/stability? Given the relatively low/moderate swing weight (115), seems like it could benefit from that (especially since it has such a low twist weight).

    @mmschley Місяць тому +1

    Looks like I'm on the same path. Bought the Persaeus 16MM last week and have played 5 times with it. The first 3 times it actually felt underpowered with a high launch angle. Then I apparently reached the break in period and it became a rocket launcher. I removed all the lead tape I had started with. I agree is seems to still do well on drops and dinks but the uncontrollable power has scared me. I was at the point of either switching to a 14MM or a Gen 2, but your video has encouraged me to stick with it. One thing I noticed is it may require switching from a continental to an eastern grip. Have you noticed this?

    • @RacketsandRunnersPickleball
      @RacketsandRunnersPickleball  Місяць тому

      I would stick to it and try to get used to it. The 16 does have a higher learning curve, for sure, but once you master it I think you will be fine. In terms of the grip, I never change my grip. I wouldn't recommend changing technique to fit the paddle.

    • @mmschley
      @mmschley Місяць тому

      @RacketsandRunnersPickleball I added some lead tape to just the handle and it seems to have muted some of the power. Biggest struggle right now is roll volleys from the kitchen. Difficult to get a lot of spin but control the pop. Drives seem to still be a little floaty for me, either my swing path or grip needs to close off a bit more.

    As a pickleball beginner who came over from collegiate table tennis, the conventional "control" paddles always baffled me, slow =/= control. These paddles sound like they act like tensor rubbers from table tennis (Joola Rhyzer 43 and 48 both have web pages that explain it!), and control in my mind is how widely I can control incoming pace and increased dwell is great for that.

      I wouldn't say my thoughts have changed, more like I'm not surprised considering how insane they feel. IMO it's a bummer because I'm all for technological advancements to improve the sport, but I also understand those who don't want this to become tennis/ball bashing. I think it will sort itself out sooner rather than later, kind of like it was with the CRBN paddles two years ago.

    You describe these paddles producing a kind of trampoline effect (of the sort that tennis racquet strings provide). And, I understand that the power characteristics increases with use. This seems to have gone from a warranty issue last year to a marketing feature this year (see marketing visuals).
    On the surface this would seem to make these paddles non-conforming, according to the current 'Equipment Standards Manual'. Section 2.E.6.f specifically prohibits: "Springs or spring-like material, flexible
    membranes or any compressible material that creates a trampoline effect."
    How have they gotten around this prohibition?

      @@RacketsandRunnersPickleball I hope there's some teeth in the guarantee they provided that their Gen 3 paddles will stay legal, now that they've been removed from USAP's list of approved paddles.

    Not a fan of them. I used the Hyperion 3 16mm for a few hours. Very inconsistent hitting surface...top quarter of the face feels like a rocket (think Gearbox), other 3/4 of the face just feels like your generic gen 2 paddle. The concept seems rushed; they could have waited a few months and pushed out paddles with the entire core suspended, not just the top. Spin and pop are top tier, but definitely not worth $280 given that inconsistency.

      I am a sixzero supporter, have the BD, DBD, and Ruby, but got my Joola last week. I think the reason you saw Rubys go out of stock almost immediately and not the Joolas, had less to do with.size of market demand, and more with production capabilities. Six zero is essentially a mom and pop shop with limited production runs while Joola is a large scale manufacturer that can financially support building up inventory.

    • @yummybong148
      @yummybong148 Місяць тому

      @@echochapman7657 Your not wrong I thought of that as well which is also why I’m so hesitant when it comes to the big brands as QC goes out the door on mass production. I thought the Joolas bigger fan base and the hype around them would of been enough for them to fly off the shelves, I fully intended to buy one till I saw the price. Ironically a bunch of the popular paddle testers also posted about the new Vatic paddle rivalling it on the same day RnR got the Joolas so I took it as a sign knowing vatic wants to make high end paddles at an affordable price to just hold out as well as podcast that said wait till after May cause so many paddles are coming out.
