2, 3 hour sessions core crushed…..and it’s been over a week since we reached out to Joola, their reply “Recent events have made it a little more difficult for us to be there exactly when you need us, but rest assured we are still here for you. “ So is this because of issues or because they are swamped by orders because of all the reviewers and pros pumping a poorly designed paddle. If you don’t hit hard probably never an issue, but if you do stay away till they redesign it! My Gearbox Power Pro lasted a week before the face dented…
Been hearing more and more issues. My fear is that the quality comes down to luck. With how many they are delivering there are bound to be issues. This shouldn’t be the standard but it is Joola. Hopefully they fix these issues and once demand levels out their support team will be more helpful. Regardless I am sorry to hear that and I appreciate the feedback.
Great video. Couldn't agree more with your comparo to Gearbox pro. I found the Gearbox has a microscopic sweet spot and on the rare occasion I was able to find it the ball seemed to explode uncontrollably off the surface. The Magnus is far more refined and a much better fit for my game.
These paddles are generally well made but, there is a very very, I mean very small envelope where these paddles do their super tricks. It's more of a surprise when you get extra power and spin not something you can control or plan on. One in ten shots is like wow, where did that come from. Otherwise it's hard to be very precise with any shot that flexes the eva foam at all. I'm a 4.5 player and I find this true with all the EVA foam paddles I've tried and sent back. My advise, stick with Gen2, Engage pro, Legacy pro, Paddletek TKO, 6.0 DBD and don't buy into all the experiment paddles out there.
Great feedback. Appreciate the comment. However I think the power of these paddles is real and the sweet spot is much better than previous power paddles. I do agree that most people should be sticking with gen 2 as of now. It’ll be interesting to see if this tech gets fine tuned by the end of the year
I've been seeing negative reviews on the Gen 3's in general, in my pursuit to finding good paddles as a Pickleball Beginner. There are also negative reviews on Selkirk as well. Like, what gives? Yes, I'm new to the sport but a lot of people have advised to get a good-to-pro quality paddle to already begin with. Is there "a" definitive paddle to get? Thanks! Awesome video btw! The Magnus is now on the radar. New Subscriber!
Selkirk and Joola paddles are great. Both are popular companies for a reason. The issue with Selkirk is they charge a premium price, but they have fallen behind with technology lately. Joola made a great paddle in this gen 3, but they don’t have the best quality control. The gen 3 is a great paddle but for the price you’ll expect the paddle to last you a long time or at least be more consistent in the quality. Mine have all held up well so far, but my friends haven’t. Selkirk also has a lifetime warranty and great customer support vs Joola who does not. The new paddletek is a great power paddle (review coming soon) Vatic prism flash, six.zero double black diamond are both great as well. I would say just demo a paddle and see what you like if possible. Pickleball central offers 30 day returns on all purchases if you don’t have a local shop where you can test them.
@@JJPickleball WOW! I ABSOLUTELY, and truly appreciate your reply Bro! You're literally the ONLY one who has replied to a question of mine!! You've sincerely earned my loyalty! Took notes and will be trying out some paddles, especially the ones you've mentioned, and thank you for recommending Pickleball Central! I looked on their website and you get 2 Free Balls with every paddle purchase, earn rewards for every purchase, lowest price guarantee, and yes, the 30-day test drive!!! They even sell specific Pickleball shoes! I just thought that all I'd need was a good pair of Tennis Shoes. Thanks again!!!!!
I found a gen 3 Perseus at a Dicks near me and the face felt like sand paper on both sides. I wasn’t planning on buying one but I took it to the checkout immediately. There’s no way this one should be legal but hey I’m having fun with it!
@@JJPickleball it’s crazy man, even if I clean it every time I play it rips the skin off the ball and the paddle face is covered in ball texture. Probably won’t last long but we’ll see! Haha
I would say slightly. With the 16 mm you are more likely to have the “big” (more power than you wanted) misses. The 14 still has plenty of power and the touch is much similar to other paddle on the market. However, the 16 is easy to dink with in my experience and drops are much easier than the gearbox pro power. If control is most important to you then I would go with the 14.
@@chuckpoz1968I will be doing a video on all the new power paddles soon. In short this paddle is much easier vto use than the GB propower. But would say quality control on the joolas is worse.
Swing weight is 120. So definitely a little more head heavy than a lot of paddles. Hand speed will be slowed down a bit if you use something with a lower swing weight, however you do gain power.
I fell for the hype and bought the Colleen John’s version. The texture was gone very quickly and I got more spin from my Selkirk Luxx. Took the refund and will not buy another.
Spin is surprising to hear. You may have received a bad paddle concerning the carbon fiber. Quality control varies crazily on these paddles. However, with the recent delisting I suggest taking advantage of the full refund window
Hasn't everyone learned that quality control for JOOLA paddles is pretty poor, no matter the generation? I haven't heard one good comment about the quality of their paddles from any vlogger or blogger, ever since they started producing paddles.
@@JJPickleball It's possible if you hold off selling your paddles until they are standardized. But these paddle companies start selling paddles before they are ready. It's all about money. If you sell 100K paddles and 10k are returned... Many people don't return products that have poor quality.
Just got the word from Joola, if you take the wrapping off and hit one ball they will NOT take it back. You're stuck with it. How are you supposed to know if you like it?????? Total BS
I would recommend buying through Pickleball Central as they have a 30 day return policy on all paddles including Joola. If you don’t like it I would sell on Facebook marketplace.
I’ve been hearing about this a lot. I’m wondering if it’s a high influx warranties being claimed. Hopefully they can get this sorted out. I know gearbox had some issues around release as well.
Sorry, this money grab by joola, selkirk and a couple others is not going to scam me. There are plenty of great paddles out there that fall well below the 200 price and I refuse to buy into the hype. Just my opinion.
I completely agree that there are plenty of quality paddles between 120-180. One thing to keep in mind is Joola does a lot of sponsorships and is paying a lot of the top pros. This is probably leading to them needing to charge more to cover their bottom line and all they do for the game of pickleball. However, there is no need to spend this much money on a paddle. I do think this paddle is unique and does provide something new and exciting that a lot of people will enjoy. But with the problems and what else is on the market…. There are a lot of other good options. Thank you for the comment and the view!
What i always say is spend at least $120 dollars but unless you really like paddles or new tech… you really never need to go over that. Plenty of great quality paddles under $150. Golf lessons are always the way!
There’s no need to. As great as this paddle is, you surely can play just as well with sub 160 dollars paddles. More comes down to brand, the extra 10 percent you do get with this paddle, and if money isnt the driving factor.
It is getting out of hand. Especially with how long they last compared to other sports. I will be doing a review on PIKKL and their new skins. Hopefully this new idea will be a viable option.
@@JJPickleball yeah that's great idea . I saw that somewhere else about paddle skin and that will save us a lot of money but I'm sure companies will try everything to block it.
Love the break down, hoping to see more paddle reviews soon.
Best actual review I’ve seen for these! It’s nice that you don’t seem to just be reading off some spec sheet that I could’ve just googled.
Glad you enjoyed it! Trying my best and I’ll have some more reviews soon.

The gearbox is so fun, but could never consistently hit drops with the small sweet spot
Great review, spot on!
apparently pickleball is the most played sport in the US now…. crazy!
New to pickleball thank you for the info!!
Liked. LOL - your shirt matches the paddle's color.
Glad you picked up on that 😉
Great review. I would definitely check this paddle out.
