    I just received my J2k last week and I am absolutely loving this paddle. The only thing I noticed was two things. One was the paddle was light for me. The second being that the paddle had a night and day difference in the feeling from the sweet spot to outside the sweet spot, particularly at the bottom part near the throat. Obviously the sweet spot will be more lively than the non-sweet spot, but some paddles less of a discrepancy between the areas. However, to combat this I placed three grams of lead tape on each side of the throat. Doing this killed two birds with one stone in terms of the weight and sweet spot. Also I will mention that The Honolulu Pickleball Company is the fourth brand I have bought paddles from. They by far had the best customer support. Super friendly, exceptionally quick with email responses for a business given the time difference (within 10 hours). Very refreshing when a really values customer support, and on top of it they have a great product. Definitely going to be doing business with them again.

    I bought a J2K about 3 weeks ago, loved it so much that I bought a second one arriving mid-June! Have a Ronbus R3.16, and a Vatic Pro Flash. I normally don’t buy multiple paddles assuming there will always be something better down the road, but the J2K just did it for me. Great power, controllable pop, serious spin, plush feel and amazing stability even on off center shots. The sweet spot on the J2K is huge. Volleying drives never felt so good. True, the graphics could be better, but I don’t really care.

    Consensus seems to be that grit is retained much better on these than the Ruby. Also a fair bit lighter when it comes to swingweight. Having played both, I'll take the J2K hands down. Ruby always felt off to me

    First impression of my J2k was that it was an amazing control paddle, but without any power or pop. After about 30 hours of play control dropped and the power and pop was incredible. Now using this as my singles paddle. Went back to the Pickleball Apes S for control and doubles.

    I come here precisely to hear your thoughts on how a paddle feels. That's what's unique/valuable about your channel compared to others. RPM stats aren't critical for me so long as I know a paddle is within the upper 25% and the peel ply resin isn't wearing abnormally. Interesting how earlier reviewers thought the J2K was a little more plush/soft/muted than the Ruby but that might just be due to their close similarity, production variances, or reviewer play styles. Guess I'll find out when my J2K shows up. Also heard Dale said the latest batch of Rubys have a lower SW than the previous batch - wonder how that affects its TW.

      That's very nice to hear thank you. Perhaps adding twist weight and swing weight more consistently would help, but I'll stay away from RPMs and velocity metrics.

    Great reviews, thank you!! Question for you concerning paddle construction in general. I have a Ruby and I noticed the lower 1/3 of the paddle has a hollow sound and hits much weaker than the upper 2/3 of the paddle. Then I noticed most paddles of my friends do the same thing except maybe the gearbox. Why is this? And are there any non gearbox paddles that don’t have this issue? Maybe something to do with where the edge foam ends, I’m not sure. Just wondering. It frustrates me most on blocks and quick kitchen play where I don’t always hit the sweet spot. Thanks!!

    • @RacketsandRunnersPickleball

      I asked Honolulu Pickleball about cleaning the J2K. Mentioned to them that Six Zero does not recommend using rubber erasers on the Ruby because they might pull out strands of kevlar. Per Honolulu, they use a different weave than Six Zero so it is safe to use rubber erasers on J2K…just don’t overdo it (their words, not mine) and follow the direction of the weave. Personally, I use microfiber cloth and a cleaning fluid like Pickle Juice Clean Shot. Does a great job and I assume it is gentler on the grit than an eraser.

    Luca,
    It's starting to feel like RPM's is either a pre-requisite, or just a copycat statistic. If you start talking about RPM's, then you open the floodgates for all of the other stats like swing weight, twist weight, etc. And then you're more in head to head competition with the JohnKews and PB Studios of the world.
    Since swing weight, weight, twist weight and RPM's is readily available information, it might be OK to just spend 3-4 seconds showing that data. But I think it's good that you talk about the nuanced differences (like slight clunkier feel and less flickability), which is something that other reviewers likely would not talk about. This is what people are looking for when they watch your videos.

    • @RacketsandRunnersPickleball
      @RacketsandRunnersPickleball  2 місяці тому +1

      The thing is, I'd really like to take the next step on this channel and to do that we need to get paddles early to be one of the first reviews. I understand the need to add TW/SW so that every spec is easily attainable here, I just wonder how important RPM/Velocity is now if you want people to turn to you to see how good a paddle is. The feel and nuanced on-court playability, I'll always keep, but it seems like those numbers are almost required because that's the baseline for judging a paddle right now. I can say that a paddle is very powerful/very spin-friendly but without the numbers backing it up, people may not consider that legitimate enough proof.

    • @terraXR
      @terraXR 2 місяці тому

      @@RacketsandRunnersPickleball I think expectations will depend on the audience demographic. There are probably a lot of people out there who *must* have high RPM numbers (possibly because they don't know how to generate spin and rely on the paddle). But that's a fair amount of work & time unless you buy that radar gun that John Kew has which also measures RPM (mentioned in a recent podcast). For SW and TW, a Briffidi is less of an investment in capital & time.

    • @CareyFan
      @CareyFan 2 місяці тому

      @@RacketsandRunnersPickleballif you want to be first to market, you need the tech specs. And yes, RPMs is a requirement IMO. But tell them whether or not you can tell difference between 2100 vs 2300 rpms for example. Because most people can’t.
