    I had an old accord EX with 350k mi. which was one of the earliest models to have vtec. After running the high mileage platinum for 3yrs, I decided to have a friend teach me how to adjust the vtec. When we inspected the cams, they were spotless, and showed virtually no wear or scoring. My friend was shocked. He modified & repaired a lot of hondas during his time as an automotive tech, and he had never seen the camshaft in such a pristine condition from a car with such high mileage. I also ran the platinum in my old camry, which had been neglected by its previous owners. And along with other repairs & fluid changes that it needed when I bought the car, it has regained about 90% of it's original power output from the factory. It's got 240k mi. now, and after driving it everyday for the 3.5yrs, it still drives like new b/c of the high mileage platinum synthetic. All the cars I own are older japanese cars from the 90's-mid 00's and the high mileage platinum is the only oil I've ran in all my cars aince the oil first came out. It has proven itself everytime I drive any of my cars.

    Amsoil is most likely going to be at the top, but for a daily driver (I.e not racing, driving in extreme conditions, or going 10k+ miles between changes) the cost probably isn't worth it. Most of these full syn oils changed at ~7500 miles with a good filter are going to do an engine good for 100s of thousands of miles. Don't forget to change the engine intake air filter too!

    I’ve been using RP since 1993. I’ve used the other brands with little difference between each one even used with heavy metal additive. Had a thrust bearing knocking on my Quantum 5 cylinder Audi engine. All others knocked remained even with the additive. Roger Fife the sale rep for RP said using RP with Synerlec will stop the knock. He didn’t lie, after a month there was no knock. Don’t really care if you believe this or not but it is the truth. Micro polishing is their secret.
    The one armed bandit used in this guys video is a Falex machine. XPR by RP is the top of the line racing or street oil, it is not Dexos.

    • @ron1836
      @ron1836 2 роки тому +3

      If a bearing is worn to the point it is making a noise. Nothing can really be done besides use thicker oil to help reduce the wiggle space created by loss of bearing meterial. Allowing the parts to have movement. Which then causes noise. You say micro polishing..? That makes not too much sense. First if it is superior at preventing wear than why would it "micro polish" the surfaces? Polishing is after all WEAR.. also having even further wear regardless of refining the roughness of surface contact areas would most likely just cause a louder knock. Since it would have even greater clearance from said wear. I suppose I could see how in certain areas of friction and load bearing mating surfaces that if the surfaces were smoothed and matched to each other in a more uniform way (polished) that MAYBE that could reduce audible noise from the fact that friction and heat would be reduced. And whenever those things change it also has an effect on the expanding and contracting of metal. Which then will have effects on the clearances between surfaces.
      End of the day especially speaking in use with modern engines. High quality synthetic fluids are almost 100% superior to basic dino oil. So if you plan on getting the most out of your vehicle they should be used. And the higher price of synthetics is offset anyways by the fuel savings that will occur from having less friction and a smoother flow rate. I myself have noticed up to 2-3 MPG increases in gas mileage after switching to synthetic motor oil, transmission fluid and rear end fluid. And over the time frame of an oil change this actually saves a good amount of money. So the extra say $15- $40 of up front cost of the oil is regained in a week or 2's time of driving and buying gasoline.
      Only time I advise against suddenly putting fancy synthetic stuff into a car is if it has high miles and already showing problems like moderate oil seal leaks, plug fouling and blow by. Because those things will most of the time get worse in short order. And you will end up lessoning the life of the vehicle rather than benefit at all. Also because it flows better and the microscopic make up of the particles is more uniform and tiny it can start causing engine noises you didn't hear before this. Because the oil instead of gripping and staying put to provide a cushion between worn parts. It now can drain and creep from these places much easier than standard oil. The other thing that can occur too is start freeing up long built up yet stable and doment sludge. Because of its better additives and it's agility to sleep into tinier spaces. This is bad news alot of times. Since all that crud starts breaking up and flowing through the engine. Possibly plugging the oil filter in quick time. Or even other small passages like oil galleries. Or worse yet lifter hydraulic ports.

    During the Bearing test, the cup on the Royal Purple is clearly lower than the setting of the Pennsoil Cup, and is evidenced by the amount coming up out of the cup. All things being equal, they were not treated equally...

      You have a good eye. It seems the cup holding the pennzoil is set about a millimetre higher than the cup holding the RP. I would like to see the actual level of the oil that the wheel sits in. Lack of quality control in testing, for sure.
      I'd say we can chalk this part of the test up to "this is what happens when you run your car with low oil level." But now I want to see if the same result is netted running low Pennzoil.

    people sleep on them bright yellow bottles but pennzoil has always been an impressive oil, and I've seen looooots of used oil in my day. what really convinced me to start using it was one of my first times as an oil change tech when i was younger. I was using the same funnel day in and day out to put oil back into vehicles, the funnel was dirty from heavy use and my dirty hands grabbing it many times a day, and every time a customer asked for pennzoil over the house brand, you could actually watch the pennzoil dissolve the dirty contaminant specs on the funnel and it would always end up looking brand new, whereas the house brand would just flow over the dark spots and do nothing to clean those deposits.
