- This is a new one for me.
A Bosch GBH 5-40 DCE Hammer with a smashed up striker pin inside the tool holder.
Not unusual to see a striker pin brake or fail like this. But it is unusual for a bosch hammer.
Normaly I see this in hilti hammers or milwaukees. But never Bosch hammers.

What a perfect comparison!!😊
Dean is a man who has perfected his craft. He makes it look easy because he's been doing it a long time. That comes with repetition. People say I make my craft look easy, but I've been doing it over 20 years. People can do it if they're willing to put in the time. I'm actually looking for old broken tools, just so I can try this while process. His videos are very well done and informative. Thanks Dean, you're the best
Im asking for old tools as well. Some are easy to fix, some need me to research here. Decent little side hustle for $$$
Highly unlikely, but hopefully Bosch watches this and takes care of your customer.
You are Bosch's best salesman. You shoot us straight, while you're tearing their stuff apart, and praise them normally.
"It's just self-assembly." Well, for Dean maybe. Not us mortals.
Very true
Bosch should honour this mans warranty, tool failed through metal fatigue, evidence is here courtesy of Dean,s superb, workmanship and diagnosis, do the right thing Bosch!
I think Bosch could be persuaded that this type of fracture on a striker bolt was a manufacturing defect and not as a result of normal wear.
Thanks much for great educational video.
Taking these hammer drills apart is complex enough, but to be able to put them back together with nothing left over, that's impressive. Clearly you must've done it many times before to be able to remember the sequence. Your video gives me the strength to tackle my SDS hammer drill that's not hammering (motor works fine).
Your customer could send that faulty part to Bosch Uk. They may refund the cost of repair due to the strange failure mode.
"Unusual"
I dont think it can top up the "Do It Yourself" sander in a shoebox from year 2000 from previous video.
Dean is on the job
Hello! This video is so useful, injust have a question about it; what type of greases using? Thank you!
No matter how long the warranty is this is a Factory fault and should be replaced without raising an eyebrow. Does Bosch produce their tools now in China? I hope not! Thanks for sharing from Mexico
Thank you Sir
I really love watching these but damn you need to get yourself 20 different gloves and try them on until you find the one you like haha
To you all those parts look simple when divided in the desperate parts, but to the rest of us that probably haven't seen those parts before, it looks like having to do brain surgery 😂
It won't hammer......its not unusual it happens all the time.....there's a song in there deano....lol 👍🏴
Definitely saved the owner a few euros by not having to buy the whole repair kit. Lucky you have such a great range of stock. Another satisfied customer.
Thanks 👍
A nice video.I think bosch should own the defective quality and send the replenishing spares used
Good evening great video thanks again for your video 📹 👍 😀 all the ways from the Philippines 🇵🇭 one of the best 👌 👍 😍 🥰
Great one, Dean Keep em coming!!!!!!!!!
Bosch quality these days
Dean. I work in the electronics industry here in ireland. Not commented before. Love the way you broke down the component parts of this hammer drill. Made it so simple. Based on your videos I’ve taken the same methodical approach in my own industry and encountered an issue with a touch panel from a well known controls system brand. Needless to say, I took it apart and recorded a video of what I was doing. I found the flaw and am surprised to say was able to fix it with a bit of solder and a cable tie. Happy customer. Never would have even attempted it had I not been so lucky as to come across your UA-cam channel. Keep it up. You are a master at your craft. Very few folk left like you these days. Trust me, I’m of the generation that sits between what is now and what is yours. Would love to come and work with you in the shop some day. That would be an experience.
Bosch quality has gone down the drain. Everyone should avoid them.
First, congratulations for the excellent didactics with which you explain. And secondly, ask you about the two fats you use. From already thank you very much
And I see you used a single shim. When I disassembled my tool, it had two shims. Which is correct?
Hello I have the same model and I have two question it seem that I can't control the chipping hammering very hard to aim it in one direction the other question the top we're the grease and piston is located get very hot these are my question thank you
The parts that had failed. Will you send them back to bosch for them to have a look at.. or will they go straight for recycling?
If it did ho back to bosch it would be nice to hear an update from them after they tested it.
Ill stick with my Milwaukee unlike you had bugger all problems with any of my tools n love my 5yr warranty, electric problems on couple Milwaukee fixed within week no questions asked.
800 Euro 😱😱
As i dismantle something i try to set everything in order for rebuilding its amazing how you just scatter bits here and there and get her back to gether again
We had the strike lock up on a brand new hammer a year ago or so, it was never even used. I think i now know what happened, probably stored the case on its side in the van.
it's a nice hammer but i really hate the trigger design, everyone always accidentally turns off the hammer while handling it.
What kind of assembly grease do you use?
Surely there must have been a wierd defect in that part for it to split right across like that. If other people see that failure on a young tool again - Bosch needs to find out why. As ever Dean your videos are very well narrated. I learn more from you every time. Especially diagnostics.
Just a matter of interest..did you show the customer the damaged part Dean
no the machine was posted back, it belongs to a large construction company. so not an individual to show it to.
What to fix sir if it’s not rotating?
Dynamic Dynamo Dean !!!!!!!!
👍👍
Top job as always pal
Interesting fault. Does Bosch collect reports of such incidents ?
on Warranty repairs yes. I will have to contact them to see if they would cover this one
@@deandohertygreaser I was curious on this particular use case scenario so to speak. A famed hammer of theirs with a sheered hardened steel part faulty on a machine that doesn't appear to be abused.
No doubt this should be a good will jobby from Bosch UK. They and so many manufactures swerve so much liability simply from the customer or small/medium construction company forgetting to or simply not registering in the required 30 day time for the 3 year warranty.
2:52 Are you sure it couldn't possibly be a bad 'turbo', being it's a *"Turbo Power"* version?😂😂🤔🤦🏻♂️
🛠️🔧🔩⛓️👌🏻👍🏻🚜🏗️😂
we have a 11241EVS, dad bought it more than 20 years ago. We rarely use it, maybe 0-3 times a year. Recently it didnt want to hammer, have to pull on the tool holder sleeve to loose the chisel and somehow the hammer would then work. once it warmed up it stayed hammering until the job is done. But I was curious and opened the cover to check it, all the grease is black. And damn, I didnt know you have to put back the screws like that, i just straight up screwed it back in. Did I screw my hammer?
Your videos are awesome, you inspire me to ttry and fix my fathers Bosch GGS 18 V-LI that he was gonna throw out
the motor was loose and had spun around and cut the cables,
fixed it as best as i could and the maching went smother than ever
keep doing what you do!
This was clearly a case of a manufacturers fault and regardless of Bosch warranty policy they should handle this one under warrenty even after 2 years of manufacturing date in my opinion.
Unfortunately Bosch is not the easiest when it comes to warranty cases ...
Must be a manufacturing issue.. A striker pin must be made from some of the hardest most ductile steel you can get for it to last at all. So this pin must have just been forged incorrectly or the root cause was impurity in the steel who knows.
Bosch should be notified about this failure.
Ah, good. Chinese metallurgy - emphasis on the lurgy - spreading to the workhorse brands.
Great work, as per the norm. Nailed it right off the bat with a twist. Hopefully customer did so the online rego.
whats that little keyring torch youre using Dean? good bit of kit
Experience counts, good job mate 👍
I wonder what caused this mode of failure? A defect in the metal of the striker pin, perhaps?
Could the pin have had a flaw in the crystalline structure of the metal ?
Hi Dean, we're you an employee who of ToolsStream?
I love your videos. You are the Louis Rossman of tool repair
👍👍👍👍👍👍👌
Another great video. Thanks.
Thanks again for a great video.
Quality. Thank you.
What's the part number for the light grease put the gear casing? I serviced one of these but went with the mineral oil, should I replace it with the light grease?
no oil will be fine. better for the gears
@@deandohertygreasercan i use engine oil? Isn't better than mineral oil?
Cool!
Fantastic man
Best one lately!!!😮
I hope Bosch is watching, this has to be manufacturing fault as this machine has not seen much work at all. Lets just hope it's not the beginning of the end of Bosch quality.
not at all, every manufacture will get a defectives part every now and then. its unavoidable. Bosch are still one the best brands for hammers in my opinion
It's a good thing you showing the downturn of Bosch quality. We builders are watching! Thanks, Dean!
this is not a down turn in bosch quality, every brand can get a defective part. I still recommend bosch hammers above most others.
What torch is that on your key ring?
Olight Mini 2

@@deandohertygreaser Great little torch. I have the 1st version. So handy to have when you need it.
