Repairing a big, old and well used Makita 1805B beam planer.

  • Not often I get one these old girls in for repair.
Love big old heavy duty makita tools like this. Something very satisfying about repairing machines like this.
These planer are basicly build like any older makuta planer, simply on a bigger scale. So they are not hard to work on.
A few new bearings, brushes, cable and a belt, soon get her up and running again.
Was actually repaired in just the nic of time, as the brushes and some bearings where badly worn out.
Just as a side note, this js not the biggest planer Makita make.
Check out the Makita KP312 for a real big planer.

@phlebas9204 You can still buy Makita 1806B as new and its big brother Makita KP312S , 312mm/12-1/4" wide, 18 kg/40 lbs tool.
Makita 1100 is the old style 82mm, version in this series, planers made to do work, not attract buyers with fancy design.
They can keep making these because there is not much options on market, you have Mafell ZH 320Ec 320mm/12-9/16" Planer.
Makita and Mafell are about only ones making big woodworking power tools.

I'm old enough to remember when a huge percentage of the tools available were of good to great quality... now, the vast majority are just garbage. It's great to see someone rebuild these older workhorses... if you fancy having a go at repairing my creaking Knees, let me know! 😃
PS. I wish the people who make those little Wire Ferrules would make some with 'O' and 'U' fittings attached - I've had endless trouble over the years with those Plastic Crimped connectors. The quality of them is always low and the connections are, at best, iffy when it comes to strain relief.
