37:43 Those 5 minutes are wonderful, searching for old parts, doing that small investigation and finding it was the right part, that's the kind of stuff nobody shows in their repair videos. Thanks!
I was just about to comment on this. That was legitimately so interesting lol. Dean is probably like "just another Tuesday guys"...
Every year on site, working outside in the freezing cold here in Canada, my old Makita HG1100 Heat Gun from 1999 gets me through another winter. Employers have gone through countless cheap heat guns over the years but my personal heat gun keeps ticking on having never had it die on me. Solid and reliable
1. I have *always* loathed slot head screws.
2. Is that how the finishing sander oscillates.
3. *Thank you* for explaining how the nut driver works. I had wondered but know I know. Much appreciated Dean. You sir are a walking Wiki of power tools. 👍
Must be nice knowing you are finally getting a return on the anvil for the 25 year old tool. How many thousands of individual parts do you think you have on the shelves in your Powerladdins cave?
Thanks for the video! 👍👍
That Makita nut gun motor sounds very good for its age. The older tools were definitely better quality for longevity. Thanks Dean.
Still made and looks as old , they have not invested in any fancy overmolding and new design..
I wonder why old stuff lasted as long. I fridge could easily go 20 years without maintenance, just look at the sheer amount of machinist machinery out there, lathes and milling machiness from the 40s and 50s all over the world still rocking solid.
Yes I have a Wolf hand drill from 1954 still running, the only replacement has been the brushes.😊🇬🇧
The longevity of the older tools is likely due to the lack of the rare earth element _chinesium_ in them.
Dean busting out the Virtual Machines too, unreal
Thanks Dean. I have this Bosch Hammer and now know what to be looking after. It‘s a good one for light duty work, like chipping of tiles.
Go on like this.
👍
Fun fact: that Makita 6906 is still being made in 2024. Nice find you still had the old part laying around!
Back in the days Makita had their software on cd's that were meant for their service dealers. The software stll exists and is up to date but it's on a server nowadays for which you need a service dealer login.
Interesting to note that the 6906 costs somewhere between $600-1000US depending on vendor, and only delivers (according Makita's website) 433ftlbs torque. Why would you buy compared to a battery powered unit from Milwaukee that delivers 1200ftlbs for $400? Because Makita is still providing parts for it 25 years later, that's quality.
You are doing a great job. Thank you
Those Wiha Ergostars are bees knees. I’ve got the 9-piece metric set, and the 13-piece inch color coded set in a boring old holder that I then replaced with the 13-piece inch ergostar holder. Wiha’s marketingg made a wise decision to send those to you Dean. I’m sure it’s paid itself many times over. And you deserve the best tools for keeping the landfills less filled and tradies’ tools going longer.
They are a very good set.
They sent me those a good while ago and I'm still impressed every time I take them out.
I normaly snap, damage or lose at least one from the set in the first month. But these are all still perfect.
@@deandohertygreaserI wanted a set even before I saw your review video. You sure did that set justice - it just looked good and had quality feel to it on screen. You’re a quiet viral marketer. The best kind :)
Black & Decker used to make some proper heavy duty tools back in their day.
I don't think most realise to this day how many brands they have heard of are actually owned by Black & Decker.
The other classic back from that era was Wolf Power Tools.
I'm always shotting links to your channel in the comments on other peoples channels when I watch them trying to repair their power tools or have a tool that needs fixing and I have seen you repair the same tool so search back through your play list and find it and post that link,
But the best bit about your channel is the way you explain everything that you're doing and what you check as well and known failures and work arounds,
I can't believe you have so many subs now I remember when you were in the 20k subscribers well done and keep the great content coming and good luck with your channel in the future.
Thanks for that, and thank you for sharing links to my videos.
@@deandohertygreaser I do whenever I get the opportunity I always shot links to your videos in a comment on a video especially as all your videos are informative, we need to have more people out there repairing their tool rather than just throwing them away like people do.
Double sided brush plugs…. Man the old stuff was the best stuff.
A good variety of tools fixed always interesting Thanks
Found an old B&D router on my dads stuff, really unused realistically brand new. Model 3315 220V made in Towson, MD, 1.5hp motor. The bits with it were crap but with some new bits it really put out some work. It takes 3/8 bits which you cant really find but also has an adapter for 1/4 bits.
Tools fixed in this video:
0:00 Black&Decker HD1000 circular saw - Fault: Not starting
16:24 Bosch GBH 18V-26F SDS Drill - Fault: Smoking/Burning smell
27:30 Bosch PSM- Primo green-line Delta Sander - Fault: Seized
34:50 Makita 6906 Impact Wrench - Fault: Snapped anvil
Love your videos - Keep em coming!
You are a top man 👍
Love it we need more long video’s about old tool reperes❤.
Agreed
Had an old Black& Decker Saw Cat back in the seventies. Sold it to a Czech who was so excited to purchase such a tool.
I just rebuilt 2 of my 1970's saws. A Skil 574C and a ShopCraft.9157. Replaced the 50 year old grease in the gear box, something Dean should have done with that B&D
Did he pay you cash or by Czech? 😂
Dean repair my own tools have learnt a lot from you thanks for sharing your knowledge 🦘
Great video love seeing old tools fixed 😊
Me too!
That Black & Decker saw is awesome I try to buy old tools and even though it's inconvenient maybe to have a long extension cord it's worth it because what you pay to replace those new cordless pieces of crap is outrageous
With the quality of content you put out to the repair community you will get many subscribers.
Knipex great a great wire stripper so you don't have to worry about nicking the conductors
I love your videos! I can’t believe how efficient you are. You are so much better at this that I don’t qualify to critique about anything, but you call the part that the power cord goes through and into the tool a “grommet”. The proper name for it is a “strain-relief”. Just lettin’ you know.
Av still got me Da's old gold and silver black & decker drill.. another excellent video Dean mate..👍
Old power tools , grandads Aluminum B&D drill with tiniest chuck, most likely 1960s, never used it my self, dads teal B&D drill, with hedge trimmer attachment and yellow circular saw from 1980s, Black B&D file sander and jig saw from 1990s . Then i have some green jig saw from B&D from 2010s . Now B&D tools are orange red ... they never had one color for power tools.
Great Video! Coming across Deans channel has given me the passion to repair some of my golden oldies too. My favourite video still remains the little fat mouse who cooked himself 😂 keep up up the good work Dean 👍🏻
Great detective work you certainly know your stuff respect to you sir
Brilliant love the longer videos
i have had one of those bosh sds drills for some time now and they are an absolute work horse
We have that Bosch SDS at work ,feels more powerful than my Dewalt 274 . Great head on ya Dean for all this 👍
Love it man thank us, no man thank you keep em coming 🫡
in the 70s and 80s I could go to the local B&D shop and pick all all the spares ... then they closed the shops and went to unrepairable plastic crap ... I believe a local machine shop still uses a 1960s B&D 10inch pedestal grinder - runs sweet as a nut
Great video 📹 👍 😊thanks again learning new ting on every video 📹 😊keep up the great work 👍 👏 😀 💪 👌
Picked up an old orange B&D similar saw to this, for 'spares or repair'.
Teeth on the end of the armature were twisted to hell, though the driven gear was good as new.
New armature cost more than a new saw! Win some, lose some. Binned it
Thats a neat old black & decker saw! I dont think I've seen a guard like that before
Have you ever been approached by any of the tool makers for advice on designing new models? I think you’re exactly the kind of person they need for that
Get the compressed air gun on your computer keyboard! Otherwise you'll be taking that apart to fix it!
Another great video with some golden oldies - Black and Decker 'Made in England'
Great one, Thanks Dean!!!!!
That guard is built like a battleship.
Awesome..great job
Hi Dean,
As always, great video 👍. Small detail during reassembling the Bosch GBH 18V-26F SDS Drill. Compared to how it was originally assembled 17:57, you putted some wires (the white one) differently during the reassembling 24:33.
Thanks!
No problem!
This was the colour of my chikdhood for the B&D tools, black and orange came later. Did they become Worx?
Not a friend of "---" screws? Neither am I. Amazed they are still in use.
Keep the plastic guard ON the blade during install. Smart! Or at least not dumb 🧐
You only have to place an equivalent sized rod straight through the hole in the saw blade to lock the blade up against the m/c surface. There is no need for overkill. ... Doahh!!!! 😂
That B&D looks like it came from the 70s
😂😂😂
That crooked lead on Black & Decker 😂😂
That Black n Decker saw looks like it came from the Thunderbirds puppet series. Lol
How would you price the anvil for the makita nut gun? Do you have an older pricelist for NOS parts or do you go by the latest pricelist?
Hi Dean, very much enjoy your videos but have a question. it appears in your videos that you have a verity of 240 110 volt tools, with a few types of plugs can you give us a basic overview of the electrical system and grid in ireland and the plugs and their uses.
How do you remember whic screw goes into each hole. In industrial work tools do the use the same size screw/bolt for all
Also virtualbox to keep old software going. Respect
morning dean :)
I've been trying to figure out by the age of the tools when a "boy" becomes a "man" in Dean's world. It is at least a decade later than conventional wisdom...
Got to ask what’s in the yellow test bucket when testing hammer action? Seems to be indestructible
It is a block of high tech, shatter resistent, carbon fibre compound material: wood
👍
It's an old one 10 transformer box.
It's an old knackered 110v transformer.
Excellent video Dean. Which Allen key set do you use ?
It's a Wera set
Guard as dangerous as blade 😮
I have a nut gun exactly the same, it needs a service Dean. What was the brush part number you used.....
Cb100
Many thanks dean
Is Black & Decker Professional now called Dewalt???
Yeah Dewalt has taken over Black & Decker, same goes for Elu.
Dean what is the surface of you bench made of?
It looks to me like a bit of floor vinyl .
Good 👍💯🪔
Just a "tad" overkill? 😄
Windows 7 is old .
if it ain't broke don't fix it . 😉
I have it on this laptop. My other still runs at 16 years old with Vista, and still works every day.
