- In this macrame fringe experiment, I use three different types of macrame cord and create a fringe using each. Which type of cord will be the best to use for your macrame projects? I have used a single strand twisted cotton cord, a three stand twisted cotton cord, and a braiding cotton cord for this fringing experiment. Each will create a different fringe effect and uses different techniques to create the fringe.
I hope this macrame fringe guide will help you to create better fringing for your projects, and also show you which strings work best for fringe. Use this video to help you when making a tassel, feathers, or fringe on your art pieces.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial and here's to finding our peace in creativity!

I like the 3 strand twisted to create the noodle effect!
My go to is usually the one strand. I think it makes really nice and soft tassels and wall hangings. Thank you for your video Because I have not tried the twisted yet and now I really want to try it out!!
Very helpful
Thank you for this video! I love using the single strand cords as well, but at times I feel like I am 'over brushing', as in a lot of fluff comes out onto my brush and this seems to be never ending! Is this normal, or just the cord I am using?
Thanks for this! Does wetting help straighten them at all, or just make a hot mess?
I think that wetting it would not do much...if anything it would make it harder to fringe and cause more tangling and curling. Good luck! :)
@@KnotCalm that makes sense. Thanks!
@@ElisaA29 I used a 4 Strand twisted cord and wetting it helped a lot to get rid of the curls. I brushed it once it was almost dry and it turned out really soft and straight
I use a flat iron on mine :)
That’s a great idea!
Where can I buy the single strand cotton chord and what brand please?
Hi Janis, where are you located? I am from Australia and so buy my string from a local Melbourne company (industrial yarns).
@@KnotCalm Florida
@@JanisGagliardi sorry I’m not sure of one in Florida. If you search ‘single strand twisted cotton cord’ and then your location hopefully somewhere will come up!
Hi, great tutorial! I’m just starting a wall hanging so thank you for the great advice. I am in the Northern Territory. Can you pls recommend where I can order single strand online in Melbourne or elsewhere in Aussie? Thank you!
By the way what is your go to cord for fringe and just your projects in general???
My go to is definitely the single strand twisted cord, I just love how soft and fluffy it is once you have brushed it out :)
@@KnotCalm I def agree 💯
I’m working with the braided cord now and it is NOT easy to make a fringe. I may cut it and retie something else in its place.
Yes I agree it is so hard to undo to make a fringe with a braided cord! Very time consuming 😵
@@KnotCalm I wish I had watched your tutorial before starting my project 😂
@@ellbee13 haha oh well! Next time you will know the result and make an even better piece. That is how we learn and grow 🙏😊
I just use my hair straightener to remove that twist,
I never thought of that! I'm guessing you would need to be careful not to burn the cord?
