    This last part about the sustainability about the brand made me so happy 😊 Producing even a small amount of cotton requires very large quantities of water, and it makes me feel bad to buy it just for crochet or macrame. Thank you ☺️ 😊❤

    Just the third video I see from your channel. All are fascinating.
    On this one, at minute 6:00 you recommend to put tape on the ends "as soon as you cut" the cord. I am in the habit of: 1) measure, 2)put tape at cutting point, 3)cut on the middle of the tape. This way the length that you are going to use has the so-needed tape and also the end that remains in the spool.

      Macrame is a wonderful hobby, you should definitely give it a try 😊 Have you seen my other videos for beginners on starting with macrame, measuring cord and the hacks? Those could be helpful in the beginning. For the hanging - before I had my clothing rack I would use just a simple hanger for clothes, put it on my curtain dowel and then use a long string to hang the piece of driftwood onto the hanger. I don’t know if that’s well explained 😅

    Hello! I'm just starting out and your videos are such a great help! Thank you so much❤️
    I have a tiny question though. My friends got me a A LOT of 2ply cord. Can I unravel it to work with it as if it is single strand?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому +1

      I am glad my videos are helpful for you. Yes, you can definitely unravel it and use it as single strand. However I think the 2ply cord same as the 3ply cord will keep some of the waviness to it if you decide to brush it out. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of if you are planning to brush out a fringe...

    This can be an expensive hobby. How do you determine how much to sell a piece for?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому +2

      Good question. I start with calculating the exact costs of all the materials and then I estimate how much time I spent working on the piece and I use an hourly rate of what I think my time is worth (this is the trickiest part I think). And those two added together give me the final price.

    A big thank you for your guideline on cords type n sizes. Im facing difficulty in getting the actual macrame cotton cord here in Tanzania n to order online I personally see it as too expensive.
    So I have been going around searching shops to see what is eseally available n also keeping price in mind. So Iv cum up with the synthetic type that is the type used to make fishing nets. Now am confused as the size I use is 150ply
    N the project im working on requires the 5mm cord can you guide me on this pls

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Рік тому

      I found that when it comes to the braided cords you can find those a lot more easily in shops as cords used for knitting, crochet and other crafts so maybe that's something you could try as well. I am not sure what 150ply would equal to in macrame cords but the "ply" (at least in the macrame cords) is the number of "braids" that make up the cord and it's usually single ply, 3ply or 4ply. I don't think I've ever seen any other versions. So in macrame cords that doesn't tell you how thick the cord is, you could have 3ply cord that's 1,5mm or 3mm or 9mm and so on. I would suggest you either ask at the shop if the know the thickness of the cord or that you simply try to measure it yourself.

    I’m in Canada, planning to make something like a cross between a backpack and a plant hanger (like a plant hanger with backpack straps) with a fringe at the end/bottom-back
    I’ve had a hard time deciding what cord to use (ideally would be interested in working with 3-ply) and if I should use 3/4mm or 5mm
    Curious if you (or anyone reading this) have recommendations for cord on Amazon that might be good for this project?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому +1

      It really depends on what you want for the overall look to be but I have two notes. You mentioned you want fringe, just keep in mind that the fringe from a 3ply cord is a bit wavy and it won't be straight like the fringe from single twist cords. And for the size of the cord I would probably go with something thicker so the 5mm or even thicker than that as it sounds like a bigger project and the smaller cord might feel a bit lost in it, the knots won't be as visible....Here is some 5mm 3ply cord on Amazon that might be what you need amzn.to/3DfsM7W

      I hope I got your question correctly - there is 4ply cord (=4 layers/strands) and there is 3ply cord (=3 layers/strands) and you are wondering which one is better for macrame right? I only have experience with 3ply cord but I don't think there is really any difference between the two, either one will work well ;) I think the 4ply cord is a bit less common but it should have the exact same characteristics as 3ply cord. You are inspiring. I have a whole lot of cords which I bought when I had no idea about choosing the right cord. So I am stuck with probably a 2mm cord and the knots don't have a discerning shape. I want to know if I put two strands of this together to do a small project like wall hanging shelf for pots will it work? It is a single twist cord of 2mm

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому

      Right, the 2mm is great for small projects - earrings, keychains and such where you can make more intricate knots with those. But in my opinion that is not the easiest for beginners to start with. As for your idea to combine two cords together that would definitely work, especially for a square knot, the double half hitch will be a bit more difficult with that so I would suggest to avoid that one if possible.

      I haven't tried working with yarn for macrame, I think there might be a difference in the flexibility of it as well since yarn (or at least the one I am imagining) is very soft I think also the macrame piece will be very soft and flexible. Depending on the design and feel that you have in mind this may or may not be what you are aiming for...

    • @kaitlyndavis8140
      @kaitlyndavis8140 2 роки тому

      @@annabaginova01 yeah it is quite soft I have to leave the knots a little loose to keep them the size I want but I also feel it's more affordable because my craft store has a huge clearance bin of yarn that has just lost their label. Maybe that might be a fun video idea lol, trying to use different types of yarn from the craft store to make a piece! 😂

      @@annabaginova01 I thought I would jump in here with a comment about using chunky yarn in my macrame projects. My daughter and I are beginning a very large project for her den wall using a combination of macrame and weaving chunky yarn into it... the term for this is 'Macroweave.'
      I like combining the two different textures and the chunky yarn allows us to bring in colors from her rug. Check it out!

    Very nice de macrame you recommended but the shipping it’s so expensive 30 dollars and up, could you recommend me similar macrame but the shipping won’t be to expensive please?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому

      Hi Cecilia, in that case I would recommend that you try to look up any local stores in your country that would sell macrame cords. Macrame is getting more and more popular and so I think there is a high chance that there are some re-sellers in your country as well and then the shipping should be much cheaper.

      You read my mind! I am just thinking about doing a project with 9mm cords. I have done one so far, this geometrical one ua-cam.com/video/WvQFxagC7FQ/v-deo.html But if you have single twist or 3ply cord those should be quite easy to brush out for some very nice fringe.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому

      Hi there, I have never made a bag so I don't really have experience with that. But the general rule is that you need about 4-6 times the length of the finished product (plus times 2 if you are using the lark head knot at the top). I would suggest looking for a tutorial that would be similar to what you want to make and then take their measurements for it as a starting point. I've also made a video about measuring cord that might be helpful for you ua-cam.com/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/v-deo.html

      I use it for "clean-up" like in my latest chandelier for example ua-cam.com/video/EUTdwJwHWDI/v-deo.html (watch at 25:25). I could thread the ends into the back of the work but the glue gun seems like less work to me 😁

    I’m doing my first macrame and I am using 3mm single strand. I got from Amazon. No name brand. Cotton. It is becoming increasing difficult to work with because it is untwisting and I have to constantly twist it when tying knots. Is this normal for single strand or is it because it’s not very good cord?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому

      Hi Kim, it is normal that the single strand cord becomes a little bit looser (=untwists) as you are working with it, especially on bigger pieces. But it should not come to a point where you need to twist it again in order to tie a knot. So I am guessing it is probably about the cord quality in this case. I would suggest that you try working with braided cord first as it’s easier to manage, unless you want a fluffy fringe at the end in which case you should stick with single strand or 3ply.

    Hmm. I’m not sure my message went through so I’m trying again. I am doing my first macrame and using a 3mm single strand cord. It’s continuing to untwist and I have to constantly retwist it. It’s a no name brand and is cotton. Is this normal for single twist or is it lousy cord.
