    First, cut out the subfloor next to the old drain using a reciprocating saw. Then cut out the old drain and P-Trap using the same saw or multi-tool. We used Fein's MultiMaster to remove the old ABS pipes.
    Cut down the shower pan curb, in this case the wedi Fundo Primo Lean curb, using a miter saw or hack saw.
    If the shower has a bench, cut a piece of wedi backer board and screw it to the side of the bench.
    Place the wedi Fundo Primo Lean curb in the shower pan area. And dry fit a piece of wood or marble that's the same width as the curb top.
    Account for the curb top's overhang and dry fit it such that the top is flush with edge of the wedi on the vertical part of the shower bench.
    This will set the width of the shower pan at both front and back of the shower.
    In this bathroom we kept the old tile floor.
    As such we mark the tile that needed to be removed.
    Then we cut the old tile using the Fein's WSG7 angle grinder (goo.gl/Vgs4Q3) and Montolit's CGX115 diamond blade (goo.gl/sLhfQC).

    Great video. The KBRS curb looks much stronger than the Wedi. But still looks like a nice kit for DIYers.

      Thanks Nick, even though this Lean curb is small it’s very strong. In a later video you’ll see how the curb can support a lot of weight.
      We’re planning a KBRS shower right now and excited to make those videos. Their Tile-Basin has a super solid curb. In our new video we’ll be installing the KBRS Shower Slope

    Thanks! Do you have any ideas on how best to create a slight pitch to keep water from the curb within the shower?

      Outside tile higher than inside. Then thinset the top thick before placing the top. Viola, pitched.

    How is the side of the bench enclosed if the curb is mounted inside the bench assuming that's where the shower door is mounted?

    Great job on your videos. Getting great tips. I have a question maybe you can help me out with. I am doing a walk in shower with 3"x12" tiles. I am confused on how I am going to tile the curb with those size tiles. A curb is what 6"x4". Can you assist on what I should do?

    Question I just purchased a 35” deep x 70” wide L shaped glass only shower enclosure by dreamline. Can I build an L shape curb w wedi products and set the glass directly on the wedi curb after tiled? I wanted to use a wedi base also to eliminate building a wood 2x4 L shaped pan w mortar? Thoughts? - thanks

      E Sedman: Have you received an answer? I read in the Wedi web site FAQ that they recommend epoxy the hardware on the finished curb or glue a 4"x4" galvanized metal plate on the wedi foam curb then use self tapping screw thru the curb finish into the plate. I haven't been able to talk to anyone who actually has done this yet.

    Thanks for sharing the video. This is the first time installing a Wedi Fundo Primo 4 x 3 shower. I bought both the "lean curb" and the standard bulky curb from a local tile supply house and plan on returning the one I don't end up using. The appeal of the lean curb is the same as the reasons stated in the video. The reservation that I have with the lean curb compared to Wedi's standard shower curb is that the profile provides minimal contact and support and seems to be a point of failure down the line. Could you provide any suggestions on shoring up the curb? Thank you.

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  6 років тому

      Yes, apply Wedi joint sealant to both ends of the curb to ensure it’s sealed. Also, be very generous with the sealant at all rabbet cuts and where the curb meets the pan. If you follow the Wedi instructions you should be in good shape though. The Lean curb, while small, is very strong. It looks good in a tight shower

      uh, oh! Is the lean curb a point of failure? I'm planning to install a heavy glass sliding barn door on it. Have there been issues with the curb failing?

    @homerepair Do you have to install the curb on the side or can you have the curb on any side you want? The shower I’m doing need the curb on the short side so to speak.

    I used the Wedi Fundo system for my shower and I'm ready to install a curb. I have a nice fitting piece of Corian that I'd like to use for the shower threshold, but I'm not sure of what mortar or thin set to use that will best adhere to the Corian, and also allow me to build up the pitch to slope into the shower. Any advice on that?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  5 років тому

      You can definitely use Corian Michaela, and we use Ardex X77, Laticrete 255, or Mapei LHT for large format tile and curb tops.

      @@michaelasmith6907 if it's not level, u can shim it, till its level, no pitch. Cause when u install the shower door bottom trim, u want to set flat

    How are glass wall panels installed on the wedi foam curbs? Wedi recommends epoxy the glass hardware or glue a 4" x 4" metal plate to the foam curb. How is this actually accomplished? Ive talked to several glass installers and they all say the glass hardware has to be anchored with screws. Any advice?

    Yes you are suppose to thinset the Hardie backer. But! When it comes time to demo! Will u come and demo out? I leave space of about quarter, then thinset the seams and apply mesh. With added screws, NEVER EVER HAD A PROBLEM. EVER! now u can talk people down all you want to but there are more ways to skin a cat. I hate when some of these guys learn their way and only their way is right! I hate that mentality. Drives me crazy.

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  4 роки тому

      totally understand your reasoning with the demo. But HardieBacker needs to be waterproofed with a liquid or sheet membrane over the thin-set seams and corners. And if that's done then the shower surround will be properly prepped for tile. That said, we simply don't use HardieBacker because there are better and faster options like Wedi, Hydro Ban Board, etc.
