How To Build A Shower Curb-DIY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2017
- In this video, I show you how to build a shower curb. It is a simple DIY process, and I use three 2x4s to build a nice curb for the shower in my washroom. I used a pressure treated 2x4 on the bottom because it was touching the concrete, but I used regular 2x4s for the 2 top pieces. I also secured the pieces of wood much better after the video was done, I put some bracing within the framing beside the curb, and secured the curb to the wooden bracing. You can also use more or fewer pieces of wood to get the perfect height for your DIY shower curb!

good job man
You should check your square-ness with a framing square.
Everyone does it their own way. Interesting concept. What to do next?
Ive similar senerio I'm interested to know how to water proof that.
The bottom piece is pressure treated for you because it’s directly in the slab correct? If there’s a subfloor, then you don’t need pressure treated?
Correct
Yup, cement floors can wick moisture into the wood so that's why you want PT for the bottom. Don't use it when not needed, because it's likely not completely dry when installing and can twist and crack your curb
Don't you put a waterproof mortar mixture over this?
Interesting....what will you anchor the left side of your cement board to where the threshold starts inside the shower
?
Would of been better to install go board or cement board and then put the curb in
great vid how do you get the slope on the curb
You just build up the thinset a bit when setting the tile.
No slope?
Slope when you tile
To all the “wood will rot!” comments; what do you think the framework and subfloor of 90% of showers are made of? Wood. What do you think your roof is made of? Wood.
The most common material for building a shower curb base is wood. It is then usually covered in cement board, a waterproof membrane, and then the thinset and tile. Or, it may be covered with a pre-made membrane of some nature.
Exactly. Just do a good job of sealing it so moisture doesn’t get in. It only fails if it’s not sealed/non pressure treated wood is used.
Hey everybodyyyyyyy 👌👌👌
I was looking for this lmao
How else could you build a shower curb without wood?
Schluter curb, block, brick, poured concrete...
I did it myself with the Woodglut plans. I think this is the best way to find out how to build it.
When you secured the second board the first board needed to be wiped down due to the drilling I know that someone will say that it’s petty but I do prefer to be perfectionist
Yeah I don't know why he wouldnt at least blow it off... it bothers me too
That is not a shower curb, that is a raised sill. A shower curb is covered with cement, water proofed, and tiled.
why didn't you install 1 piece vertically? LOL
No good way to anchor it to the floor, and you'd still need two more boards on each side to get the correct curb depth
Why would you use wood? If gets wet it will soak up water, expend and cause more damage, rot, get mold and spread to dry wall which would need to be replaced.
You could take that viewpoint to the entire framing of the house. At some point you have to trust the waterproofing techniques used, whether its your shower curb (wood is absolutely the most common base material used), the framing behind your shower or the wood under your shingles.
This is essentially the FRAMING! How else would you follow the next steps of making a curb? And to the people talking about how the water will rot the wood... Please try another profession. The framing is NOT the finished product.
Lmao shower curb explained by a Sesame Street character!
Not good to use wood. It will eventually rot and you will have to rip out part of the shower in a few years.
Only if it isn't water tight, which can happen.
Might as well tell him to rip out his framing behind the shower too. While your at it let him know to replace his house sheathing with something that isn’t wood. At some point you have to trust the waterproofing.
I mean, think of the literal millions of showers built on a wood subfloor with wood framing behind the waterproofing. If you can’t protect your curb then you have no hope of protection the other wood aspects.
Why do u talk out of your nose
Why are you petty?
This guys voice is too much.
so apparently you just screw 3 2x4's together and you're done. no concrete board, no thinset, no water proofing membrane, no tile, no grout. WONDERFUL.
Never build a shower curb using wood
wood rots and wild become wet over time and fail! Concrete is required for all curbs!!
Might as well say "don't build a house out of wood". If the pan is built correctly, the wood will never get wet...just like the rest of the house.
@@FatDaddyWampus The 3 wood 2x4s will come in contact with the mortar cement to build the curve so won't it retain water from it? What do you think about that?
Wood rots..not good
@@californiaitis1255 You should be wrapping your curb in pan liner then covering with rock, not adhering the mortar directly to the wood.
Not a great video, no wood in curbs hacker. Go home and just stop
So where is your video, ass hat?
There is nothing wrong with making the curb out of wood if you wrap it correctly with the pan liner before the tiling process. You could even add a secondary protection with red guard or other water proofing applications before adding the pan liner.
Speak only when you know you're right. In this case you are not. The wood is wrapped with a liner and topped with Hardy board. There's no way for it to get wet. If you do it this way and have issues it's bc you used pressure treated wood which will shrink and rot bc it's moisture has no where to go. Use non pressure treated wood. Let me know if I can help anymore... I'm here all day.
How else could you build a shower curb without wood?
Brick or mortar
Just don't build in the morning and you will not have that problem
