This is a video time lapse of a Wedi shower installation. Wedi makes a complete shower system including the wall panels, shower trays for the base of the shower, sealants, drain and numerous other components for a complete solution to a waterproof long lasting durable tile installation www.wedicorp.com/ to help with the installation of these two showers a Wedi Rep. graciously offered to help, he prefers to remain unnamed, but he did a lot of the actual work and is a main part of this video.
All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. This video contains affiliate links, which means I will receive a small commission if you click on the product link.

Drain pipe there, then drain pipe gone, then drain pipe back. But no work on drain pipe. Its magic!!
The tooling time on that large tube of caulk looks like it is really long. That's a good thing! Kerdifix's tooling time is relatively short.
They have different functions so thy are designed with different characteristics.
Wedi glue dries really fast
Relying on a simple caulking joint at the base seems iffy
I like to cut the base upside down so I can be sure my cuts are square. Also I like to put a proflo brass drain instead of that plastic one wedi provides. And lastly I wedi glue the bottom of my drain where the gaskets are and the top in the inside where the rubber meets the pipe. No soap, I see no need for that since the rubber is big enough for the pipe.
Thanks for the video .It is very informative
A question I have not seen anyone answer or even ask for that matter is the seams being sealed
Where the Wedi shower base and the Wedi wall meet ,there is a slot that the wall fits in
We got some thinset in that notch and did not notice it until dry .
We were able to smooth it out and no ridge .
Sealing it is what has me curious as I have seen videos that mention to not get thinset in that location
Here is my thoughts and would like to get yours
Lay a thick bead of the Wedi Adhesive in the notch slide the wall down and secure . Spread the excess out along the seam and let it set(dry) .Then run another bead along the seam and smooth. After it sets then lay a thin layer of thinset and then a 3 inch piece of membrane over the thinset and smooth out. There would be 1 1/2 inch up the wall and on the shower base
I can't see water getting thru to the inside which would take care of the thinset being in the notch
Any thoughts or why nots
You have that about right, except the band should overlap by 2" on each side. To have good adhesion and a water tight seal, all the joints where the Wedi adhesive is applied have to be smooth, clean and tight. If you have any doubt about the floor to wall connection, seal with band and thinset to insure there are no leaks. Here is a complete tutorial about this install ua-cam.com/video/G0ViFmacb0M/v-deo.html
Could have just dug it out a bit and used more wedi glue
Hello Sal, at 2:40 is that modified or un modified thinset? Which should be used if there was a liquid waterproofing applied below (I realize wedi is already waterproof).
Modified for everything
I wish someone would make a video how to install a Wedi pan on concrete that is replacing a bath tub.
I don’t understand why you need to cut out a notch on the perimeter of top of base? Wouldn’t the walls and base just be sealed together with the wedi sealer and pressed together?
The difference is one surface contact if you just put the wall down on top of the edge vs two surface contacts if the edge is notched as the wall will be touching both sides of the notch. This would seem to suggest a better overall bond.
Wedi is way better ,you don't have to use inside corner fabric like Schulter .Wedi is a lot faster to install
I have a question not related to the video... I need some sort of anti slip product or treatment for ceramic tile in a restaurant dining area. There are so many products and I'm not sure what to use or whether etching or coating is better. What would you recommend?
+1221vito That is one area that i don't really know much about, has nothing to do with installing tile and more for treating after the fact. Sorry
I've only been laying tile for a little while, but I didn't even know such a thing existed until a few days ago..so no worries and thanks for doing your videos; they're the best.
You've put a step on the edge of the shower. Can it be done without that so that its all level with non wedi floor or would it be better to carry on the floor with wedi to the door of the bathroom. Obviously there would be a step between that and the hallway though
Many ways to do a curbless shower, a few additional steps are needed to depress the shower floor, and other products are used to aid in the process.
Sal, can we wet shim wedi board? in order to have plumb walls.
yes
In the instructions it says use no lubricant to install the rubber seal in the drain..How come you used it and would it create an issue over time. That thing is really difficult to get in and I cut exactly to instructions.
It is just a bit of soapy water to help it gho into place. And yes it will sometimes fight you.
looks like a good system, no a fan of the narrow curb though. Thanks for the share Sal
They make a 4.5in curb
Where in uk can i get the step or curb as i have had no luck finding it online in uk?
Sorry, I am in the US, I have no clue where to find anything in the UK
You did not have to put the blocking in at the bottom of the shower. Wedi official video only stated seams on vertical joints need to be on a stud. In fact they don't even use a fastener in the bottom 12"
Not required, but a good idea to direct the sealant in towards the pan and not out into the wall cavity.
@@SalDiBlasi what does sealant have to do with blocking?
@@fd3871 See my reply above .
Is there any particular reason the Wedi panels were cut to the exact size of the stall walls instead of continuing past the shower threshold into the room? I thought they recommended waterproofing an extra couple of feet on walls and floor just outside of the shower. Or would that just be way overkill?
The tile ended at the outside edge of the curb, so that is where you make the transition.
Forgot to angle your first row of screws in each sheet (12” up) down a little
