    I’m Puerto Rican and it’s amazing to see how we all eat the same in the Caribbean! We call them tostones and the process is a bit different but it’s the same result! Nice recipe👌🏾

      Puerto Rico is where I was introduced to them. My Dad was in the Navy there for a few years. A local woman would fry these up in the morning and us school kids would buy them hot and fresh from her. They were so good. I just fried some up, love them.

    Hello Mel,
    I’m in Louisiana. I cook the yellow plantains in butter and sweeten them with nutmeg and brown sugar. They cook in a buttery sweet sauce , then I add rum and serve them over vanilla ice cream. Thanks for sharing!

    As I am from Scotland and live in Bulgaria I have never tried plantains. But today, to my great surprise there were green plantains at the market: so I am very grateful for your video on how to cook them, and tonight, when my wife gets back from work I can cook them for her with a dish of prawns.

    We do the same in Cameroun and we call it " tapé tapé" which means " beat beat" since we hit it to get it flattened. WE mostly use the semi riped plantains and we eat it with some roasted or grilled fish with some onions on top. It's to die for!!!! It's amazing to see you do the same in Jamaica.

    I like to use the yellow plantains and keep for 3 days before cooking. On 3rd day, prepare small sweet potatoes and cut the plantains and potatoes the same size. Line a shallow aluminum broiling pan with both swt potatoes and sweet plantains. Sprinkle with raisins, drizzle with honey to taste, sprinkle with cinnamon generously, add a pinch of freshly grated whole nutmeg and a sprinkling of light brown sugar. Put in preheated 350° oven, not too high for 30- 45 minutes. keep checking so it doesn't burn.And let bake till tender or slightly golden brown. Not only is this dish very tasty but it is very healthy as well! Enjoy from my own recipe!

    Thanks for your video. I have been frying plantains for decades but differently. This is a more a prolonged and complicated method and is called Tostones. If you use riper plantains and cut the slices thinner, fry them until golden brown and drain on on paper towels, it is much more simpler and less time consuming.. Then salt is not necessary because the plantains are much sweeter. But plantains can be fried at different levels of ripeness. This is for when they are greener.

    • @ipitrader
      @ipitrader 5 років тому +2

      The greener the plantain is healthier because you are not eating so much sugar , it's great for helping your body process glucose. Good for diabetics too as eating it like this prevents Diabetes from getting out of control.

    I tried this recipe. It's gorgeous! Thank you! Also I used a flat plate to smash semi-fried plantains, it's more convenient to me. But anyway, thank you! I bought plantains for the first time, expecting they to be sweet haha. But it turned out more interesting

      You can let them ripen you get the sweet flavor. So your yellow with black streaks-black will be ripe and sweet for plantain

    I'm going to try this, i bought Plantain for the first time a few days ago because i was so curious. I live in Sweden and it's not very common to eat Plantains here, but they're sold everywhere since it's such a diverse country luckily. It looks delicious! :D

    Hi I just subscribed. I'm Portuguese and this is not in our cuisine, but I love plantains! My neighbors were from Puerto Rico, and I'd always go over to eat, been making them ever since. Thank you for sharing this.

    Great video seeing all of your techniques as well, round side first, push halves into the oil (I’m guessing the protect oneself from splatter) These are the little gems that get lost in a written recipe. Thank you for sharing!
