Properly ripened plantains are perfectly edible raw, they're just a bit starchier and less sweet than table bananas. But frying them enhances their sweetness, especially if you let them carmalize a bit.
They can also be boiled or added to soups

Grapeseed oil is the best oil to cook with hands down! The only oil that I use to Sautee or lightly fry foods, does not let off harmful chemicals like other oils also no matter what they tell you olive oil is not to be cooked with! That is for salad drizzle only.. peace love and light!

I saw a recipe for frying bananas very similar to frying plantins in butter. I first used plantins in the early 70s when I cooked a Puerto Rican dish called pasteles (very hard dish to make) during that time they now have grinders to grind the platains.I made this dish for my fiance from Santuce PR. I'm African American and German 🇩🇪 it was delicious and I realized PR cooking and other Caribbean dishes is like cooking soul food but then I realized many food stables and recipes came from the continent of Africa during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade😔

I am English and am very grateful that you have taken the time to demonstrate how you cook this delicious snack.
Watching your video, I see that the oil must not be too hot, but there must be enough of it in the pan. Also, as you say, you should turn the plantain so that each side is fried twice.

This looks insanely good. I'm on my way to the shops now to go get some plantains!!! Just wondering though did you use olive oil to cook them in or something else?

I've always loved fried plantain, but never made it myself. I recently bought some and waited for it to ripen and used your video to make it for the first time! It came out really nice, exactly how I like it! Some friends tried it too and loved it!

I’ve never made it before. Thanks for the visual because I needed the guidance. Double flipped and aimed for the same color. Slightly salted it afterwards with a light hand. Firm plantain like in the video. Excellent. So easy.
