So for safeties, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the quarterback getting sacked. Any player tackled in the opposing team’s endzone (or who ran out of bounds in the endzone) is a safety, but a sack is the most common. Also, if a team fumbles the ball out of bounds in the opposing team’s endzone - same result. Oftentimes, players who fumble in the other team’s endzone will intentionally take the safety by kicking the ball out of bounds, rather than allowing a chance for the other team to fall on it and get a touchdown. Love the video! Looking forward to more.

Haven’t scrolled all the comments but i can speak to ball placement as you asked about halfway through. After a play, the ball is placed in 1 of 3 spots with respect to the width of the field, depending on where the previous play ended. In the middle of the field there are two parallel hash lines that mark each individual yard line and run end zone to end zone (the length of the field). These hash lines are roughly equidistant and divide the field into roughly equal thirds width-wise. So if the prior play ends with the ball carrier being tackled/forced out of bounds to the left of the left hash mark, the ball is placed on the left hash of the yard line where they were downed for the next play. The ball is placed on the right hash line if the play ends to the right of the right hash line. If the play ends between the hash lines, the ball is placed in the center of the field. So in your example of trying to set up the best ball placement for the kicker, it depends on the kicker’s handedness (“footedness” really but that’s not a word) and their personal preference. Generally a lefty kicker would want the ball placed opposite from what a righty kicker would want to give them the best alignment and space to kick a FG. Hope this helps.
Note that in nfl and college football, the hashes are much closer to the center, in line with the field goal posts, on high school fields though, the hashes do split the field into equal thirds.
You did an awesome job explaining. A reason you would win the coin toss and kick is because you get the ball after half time. Sometimes allowing you to score right before halftime and then get the ball right back. Most teams kick. But you can receive to start the game off with some momentum and score right away. Overall, as an NFL fan, you did amazing! You earned a sub

One point with the coin toss, you specifically get the option to choose now or choose at the beginning of the second half. Which is why if you want to kick the ball to start, you should specifically say “defer”, because if you say you want to kick, that is still you making a choice, whereas deferring is deferring your ability to make a choice until the second half. If you say you want to kick rather than defer, then the other team still has technically not gotten their choice yet, and they can choose to receive in the second half. Meaning they would get the ball to start both halves.
As a football fan I think this is really cool. Also a pick six is a when the defence gets an interception (a pick) and then runs it for a touchdown (6 points)
There is actually an extremely rare extra form of scoring, which takes place when the defenders of a PAT block or by some means keep the ball from being kicked through the post, they grab the ball, enter their own endzone, and take a safrey. This is known as a 1 point safety and has never happened in the nfl. It has happened in college a couple of times, and it is super rare to even get the right circumstances for this to occur. You can look at some of the times this took place by looking it up on youtube, as there are clips from college on it. Thanks for the great video!

If the RETURNER decides to FAIR CATCH a PUNT, the ball starts somewhere on the that line where it was caught.

@LucRice you are incorrect. There is someone in these comments who did a good job of explaining the decisions regarding the coin toss. Essentially, the winner of the coin toss gets “first decision”, which is to: a) kick b) receive c) defer. If the winner of the toss chooses “defer” that means they are putting off their decision until the start of the 2nd half (in which case the loser of the toss makes their decision now; the beginning of the first half). In short, 11 of the smartest gym class members try to put a small egg into a giant rectangle while 11 more of the smartest gym class members try to stop them while also trying to show they can do it too 😂 IF they succeed, they get a chance to put the same egg into a much smaller rectangle but that ones kinda big too so eh 🧐
So the field goal is actually kicked between the left and right hashes on the field, many times the extra play is a player centering the ball between the hashes, or putting it on the left hash to help with wind.
“He’s got to get the ball 10 yards, which doesn’t seem hard, but it’s hard!” Was the Saints’ offense your reference here? 😂 (i jokingly ask this as a sad fan)
@@Nofrillsasmr In the spirit of honesty, that's a shame. I am *so* picky about my ASMR, and you are so lovely and have such a lovely voice and tone... What would you think of other, more... "creative" minded requests?
You missed one top of score!! But it’s rare and hardly relevant so I’m not surprised it wasn’t easy to find. But you can score a 1 point safety. First of all, very relaxing, secondly great job explaining it as a person that probably didn’t grow up watching it as a kid, you did awesome, very understanding video, your husband sure did a good job presenting one of the best sports in the world to you…happy holidays and enjoy these upcoming playoffs baybay!!!😊👍🔥
I read this comment to my husband and breakfast, and he did a spit take with his tea. lol He doesn't really know much about football - he's a theater/guitar guy. Thank you so much for watching and commenting - I really appreciate it.
Came for the ASMR, stayed for how seriously cute this was.
😊 Thanks!!!
Honestly, as someone who has been watching football since I was in 2nd grade it is so cute to hear you explain football. I truly love this video.
I wonder if this it’s a response to Swifties discovering football for the first time. Who would’ve thought such a popular sport is still gaining fans. Cool!
Like the digital sound effects!!! You are so sweet.......oh by the way I think recieve should be receive. Happy Holidays from Italy.
Thanks for watching! All the way from Italy too, wow! Yeah, spelling isn’t my strong suit. 🙂
Just teasing ....more NFL if you please......Buone feste....ciao e grazie@@Nofrillsasmr
omg your microphone is so nice
Thanks and thanks for watching!
It’s really a remarkably simple game when it’s taken down to its bones. Not easy by any means. But I think people just love to make it sound more complicated than it is for whatever reason lol.
I think you’re right about that! Thanks for watching.
It's only complicated once you start getting into the nuanced Grey area s
So much lingo...
🐐
You just reminded me, now I'm adding "goat" to my next football terminology video. Thanks!!
This rules, thank you. Pumped to share this with my girlfriend/non football friends
Great! Thanks!
Do one for baseball now lol almost as complicated! I can help, my fav sport by far
If I do baseball and butcher it, don't get mad at me. lol I will do my best. I need to study up a bit so I can "hit it out of the park".
@@Nofrillsasmr like I said id be happy to help! My fiancée only allows me one Baseball Fact Of The Day and the offseason is currently boring so I have a need for some baseball rn lol
@@shmekieI’ll tell you a secret. I’m waiting, rather impatiently, for Adsense to be approved so I could actually make a few dimes from this channel. Once that happens I’ll do it - I kind of think baseball may be a popular subject. 🤞 I may bug you for some facts later. 😊 thanks!
I really need this about baseball! Don't really understand everything going I'm to that either😅
I like that idea. I think I know some of the rules. 😂 I’ll try to do it soon.
A pick 6 is when the team who intercepted the ball returns it for a touchdown ! Touchdown = 6 points
Yes! I still need to do a video with more calls and terms and stuff. Thanks for watching.
Got it. Ok thanks!
Could you explain the different player’s positions and what they do in another vid?
That's a good idea. Thanks! (and obviously I need to study it because I couldn't come up with any of those names)
@@Nofrillsasmr I struggle with remembering the positions too, but my BF is fluent in football, so I’d love to have a relaxing explanation from you :)
9:00 kick returner😭 & when they punt he’ll be the punt returner
Yes! Thank you!
💙💙💙
Aw, thanks.
As a swiftie, I say thank u lol
Just trying to "shake it up" a little. Thanks for watching!
I'm gonna be that guy. I before E, except after C. 😅
Oh yeah. Well, I make a lot of mistakes, that’s for sure. Thanks for watching.
What teams do you root for? X)
AFC North and I try to root for the Lions because I'm originally from Detroit. Thanks for watching.
“He’s got to get the ball 10 yards, which doesn’t seem hard, but it’s hard!”
Was the Saints’ offense your reference here? 😂
(i jokingly ask this as a sad fan)
I think every fan feels this pain! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Master Chief would make a great Tight End
I had to Google "Whose Master Chief". Halo! Of course. lol
adorable.
Thanks!
A pick 6 is when the defense gets a interception and scores a touchdown for 6 points
Yes! Thanks!!
Hi, I know nothing about football-
No frills like the store? 😅 or frills like, frilly? 😅
No frills like no added embellishments. Simple. Thanks for watching!
@Nofrillsasmr girl thank you cause I had a good little chuckle wondering 😂 thank you! Have a nice night (or day) 🥰
I sent this to my girlfriend so she can learn American football, I guess I don’t do the best job of explaining things
I hope this helps! 😊 Thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much for not allowing ads...I would rather donate. @$%! youtube and their greedy bull$hit. I hate everything it's become...
I have a "buy me a coffee" if you like! Thanks for watching!
You are lovely! What are the chances of you maybe doing a role play? Maybe medical? Maybe blood pressure checking, etc, etc...
I’ll be honest, that’s highly unlikely. I’m more of a creator than a performer. Thank you so much for watching!
@@Nofrillsasmr In the spirit of honesty, that's a shame. I am *so* picky about my ASMR, and you are so lovely and have such a lovely voice and tone... What would you think of other, more... "creative" minded requests?
Your Detroit Lions are going to win the NFC North.
For all my friends and family in Michigan - I hope you're right!! They are all very excited.
Wort wort wort
Just never borrow a nickel from a coach because he’ll want a quarterback
😂 Dad joke alert!
You missed one top of score!! But it’s rare and hardly relevant so I’m not surprised it wasn’t easy to find. But you can score a 1 point safety. If a team is trying for a 2 point conversion and then lose the ball and the defensive team recovers, leaves the endzone and then is tackled for a safety it only counts as 1 pt
Whoa, that's an unusual one. Thanks!
This is cute
Thanks!!
