Safe travels Gylfi, I'm really looking forward to seeing this eruption through your eyes as well as what you and Shawn Willsey come up with together. 💜🌋🦄
Do you have any tips on finding a good spot to get images from? I have a telelens and a drone and already had a visit to Iceland planned in two weeks, so I would like to get a peek if it's still ongoing. But I do not want to risk my safety or disturb emergency services or anything.
Thanks! Sounds like you’re in for a long night. Black coffee is the perfect fuel. Night shots can be tricky but so worth it. What’s the best night scene you’ve ever captured?
Good afternoon Gylfi. Thanks for the update with regards to the situation of the new volcanic eruption. When I was travelling to Keflavik Airport at 4am this morning, I got to see the eruption from the road. Couldn't believe that I got to see the eruption this morning. When my plane was taxiing before take off, I could see the eruption and the large amount of smoke coming from the eruption. But my plane took off to the north before turning south. Stay safe on your travels Gylfi. I had a brilliant time in Iceland, despite the poor weather. I will definitely come back to Iceland in the future.
Same for me, it was 'awesome' to see how close the eruption was to the road so unreal. Driving from Keflavik probably had an even better view. When I took off at 8AM the eruption had decreased significantly or maybe it was the daylight dim it a bit, could see it from the plane but it was way more smoke and the lava didnt come through on pictures I took. I was first sad I couldnt choose my seat on my usual side of the plane (A seats), but now I was happy to be actualy on the right side to see the eruption. :)
@@AnnaMaria-zm8cv my plane took off heading north then it turned south after about 5-10 minutes & climbed through the clouds so we didn't get to see it.
@@johnbradshaw7525 we flew exact same route, but the eruption was visible somewhat behind the plane for the first 5 minutes before heading into the clouds. It was clear above lake Kleifervatn but you couldnt look through to previous eruptionsites. I will see my luck again tomorrow when I return back to Iceland.
Lucky you. I was in Iceland in June. We had the good luck of driving past a section of Grindavik on a detour road. It was an amazing experience to see a bit of lovely Grindavik. We had lava steam beside both sides of our car and thick fog ahead of us as we drove to Blue Lagoon. We had so much 'fog' at Blue Lagoon we could only see about one foot in front of us. Our trip to Iceland was an amazing experience.
@@sbaumgartner9848 The weather was not good while I was in Iceland. I went whale watching in Eyjafjörður & it was really rough with strong winds and horizontal rain. Then in northern Iceland there was fresh snow on the mountains. We also had warnings for strong winds for Wednesday & Thursday.
Thanks for the update. Yours is the only channel I look to for eruption news. I love your photo and video journalism of Iceland's volcanic history, just superb! Stay safe, hope the town and power plant survive.
Thanks for the explanation Gilfi. I’ve heard quotes of 6m cubic mtrs was waiting to blow?? Stay safe fella an cheers for takin us all on mate.❤❤👍👍🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🌋🌋🥃🥃
Hi Deborah, that's wonderful that you were just there. I was there in June. I went with three other people and we rented a 4x4. We packed in a lot in the 7 days we were there. It was an amazing experience. We will never forget it. We even managed to drive past a part of beautiful Grindavik on our way to Blue Lagoon. We had lava steam coming up on both sides of our vehicle and thick 'fog' ahead of us, plus 'fog' waiting for us at Blue Lagoon. We also had a terrific tour of the geo thermal plant that sends hot water and electricity to Reykjavik.
Stationed there for 2.5 yrs at KEF. Praying for the Icelandic people and their belongings to be out of harms way. Hopefully the power station and blue lagoon come out unscathed

Someone get Gylfi a helicopter ride! The poor chap is surviving on coffee and a car that is being killed off by the state of the Icelandic roads! Seriously though, your footage is brilliant and I love the way you labelled previous images to give it perspective. You are amazing.
And he recently said his car needs repairs by being on the rougher roads! I think he's a national treasure and should be given an award of recognition to his contribution to Iceland.
