The guys that film these for us to watch - they are the real islands, mountains and magma in this story. Unfortunately their courage and passion never gets them a Nobel Prize for science. But we recognise them - honour them and thank them. They are the real champions of the world.

I think you'll find that the actual islands, mountains and magma are the real islands, mountains and magma in the story.
We have had quite enough worship of 'big men' who 'discovered' a world which in fact is their damn cradle and the very support of their existence. It is a disservice to the people who filmed this, to name them and give them prizes. The best way to be part of something like this is to witness its beauty and greatness in humility and with love, and share it with the world. Accept the gift of sharing gratefully, through NOT making it about the persons who filmed it. Let us just sit and love our world together.

Just imagine, being lucky enough to be there at the right moment to witness hot molten lava spurge through the ocean water surface and solidify into a small infant piece of land, still soft and hot from boiling lava but slowing gaining strength to overcome the rough seas. This would become the foundation for beautiful ecosystems in the million years to come. Its kind of similar to witness a mother giving birth to a newborn babe.

Amazed at this process. I am a big fan of the Hawaiian islands and have been there many times. The islands form in the east like in the area of The Big Island Hawaii and they move to the west around the area of Kauai. As they move to the west they at one point begin to get worn down and basically sink back into the ocean as they move west. Right now a new island is forming southeast of the island of Hawaii and is about 3000 feet below the surface of the ocean it will take about 100,000 years for it to break the ocean surface and about 100 million years to get as big as the island of Hawaii, almost as long as it takes to order food at McDonalds these days.

    some interesting facts about volcanoes:
    1. Volcanoes are openings in the Earth's surface that allow molten rock, ash, and gas to escape from the Earth's interior.
    2. There are around 1,500 active volcanoes in the world, with many more that are dormant or extinct.
    3. The largest volcano in the solar system is Olympus Mons on Mars. It is three times taller than Mount Everest and as wide as the entire state of Arizona.
    4. Volcanoes can erupt in different ways: Some volcanoes erupt explosively, while others have more fluid lava flows. Some can also produce pyroclastic flows, lahars, and other dangerous phenomena.
    5. The Ring of Fire is a region around the Pacific Ocean where many of the world's active volcanoes are located.
    6. The word "volcano" comes from the Roman god of fire, Vulcan.
    7. Volcanoes can have different shapes: Some have a steep cone shape, while others have a broad shield shape.
    8. Volcanoes can impact the climate: Large volcanic eruptions can release huge amounts of ash and gas into the atmosphere, which can block sunlight and cause global cooling.
    9. The world's largest eruption in recorded history occurred in 1815 at Mount Tambora in Indonesia, which produced massive amounts of ash and had a global impact on climate.
    10. Some volcanoes have become popular tourist attractions: Many people visit volcanoes to see their unique landscapes and to witness their eruptions from a safe distance. However, it's important to remember that volcanoes can be dangerous and unpredictable.

Many islands are non-volcanic and are made entirely of "limestone" like geology. Islands like the Bahamian chain of islands come to mind.
Our large continents were likely NOT formed by volcanos, but were part of earth's natural evolution when created. After all it's very unlikely the entire planet was once underwater. I'm not a geologist, but I've read literature suggesting our large continents that were formed billions of years ago was originally one large land mass that over time shifted and separated due to violent tectonic activity pulling the land mass apart. Further, it's this tectonic activity that contributed to significant volcanic activity and earthquakes....
However, yes. Many smaller islands were created from volcanic activity. Matter a fact there is a very active underwater volcano (about 300 meters below the sea) in the Caribbean that's nestled near other islands (Grenada & St. Vincent) and is growing/ rising every day. It currently poses quite a problem for boats which may sink when the volcano occasionally degasses...
