@Just Icelandic • Gylfi: I love the thermal imaging videos and your explanation. We are so lucky to live in a time when we can "see" what's under our feet. I also love your truly artistic shots of the geyser. You really succeeded in showing us the beauty of your island. Thanks!
Thank you Gylfi...your thermal drone shots are a very good way of keeping track of the area of heat spread as time goes on...I love the geyser shots...they are spectacular... All the best...from Scotland 😃🌠
i have been taking (LSA) plane lessons, about a month ago me and my instructor flew from outside Reykjavik to selfoss and on the way back from selfoss we saw a new thermal vent or a new area that wasn't smoking last time we were there and my instructor took a video of it while i flew the plane, it was probably about 1.5-2.5 km or so south of the main road if you are curious. now thinking about it, it might have been some of the first signs that the area was changing
TY my friend! Awesome video, interesting perspective when thermal/visual footage is blended. Without a doubt the increase in activity generally is making for interesting times, and footage. Your travels are followed with interest and anticipation.
Sending you best regards from the UK ive been watchin a lot of the videos and just wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU again for ALL of the videos.
Another Awesome video Gylfi. Thanks for all your time and patience to make these video's. Thermal imaging is interesting to see. Nice video of the geyser as well. Sending you best wishes from NZ.
3 a.m.... good morning Gylfi, as always, fascinating insights into the changes in Iceland. It's also so interesting because I can see every bump in the ground, every depression or rocky ridge. If I took a drone shot of my home country, everything would be much more even... boring 😉
Great to see a military surplus Quonset Hut still in use just next to the area you showed us! PS - in Ventura county, CA, many farmers bought and relocated these steel huts to farms. Several are still in use around Oxnard as auto repair shops.
Omg the Geyser photoshoot is just beautiful !! Love all the angles !! Looking forward to more of your work !! Just love it !! Thank You for your time and information!!
thanks for the updates and video gylfi at 3:53 look in the lower left hand corner of the thermal image. you can see a spot there too i hope scientists are paying attention
Hallo Gylfi, ich schaue mir schon seit Monaten Deine Videos an und bin sehr begeistert. Vor allen Dingen von den Drohnenaufnahmen. Die Aufnahmen des Geysirs sind wirklich toll geworden.
Loved the horses! The roof with the writing on it amused me. Definitely the geothermal area is expanding! Oh, and that shot of the geyser erupting from above was awesome!
Gylfi, thanks for an update on the geo-thermal conditions under and around the main road, its quite amazing to see the visual and then thermal image to understand more about your restless home.
3:24 Just a detail: in this image you can read a word, colder than the surroundings, that could be "hippos". To the right of this word you can see warm spots that could be one or several horses (or Icelandic ponies).
Your videos are great, Gylfi. I wouldn’t be surprised if the volcanologists in Iceland are using your videos to make their Prognostications regarding the threats of future eruptions. Your work is exceptional. Thank you.
Thanks for the geothermal update. Do you have software that can convert the drone images to a set of maps? The drone videos show the changes, but a map view could be loaded into a GIS to do a quantitative analysis of the changes. Scientists would love to have that kind of data.
Does anyone in civil defense or science (geologists) request your thermal drone videos? Seems they might be very useful to someone tracking changes and potential hazards. Thanks and take care 🙂
Your drone shots of Geysir are truly extraordinary, Gylfi. I really enjoyed seeing the changes along the road, too. Has there been more rain or snow this year than usual? In most geothermal areas, much of the water actually comes from the sky, but is heated by the high underground heat flow.
Strokkur looking beautiful there. If you go, say hello to Geysir for me. He's not as active as he once was but a few years ago I had the privilege to have my toes soaked when he decided to say hello just as I walked up :)
I'm curious - do you have to get permission to fly your drone at Geysir? I noticed when I was there about a week ago they've got a load of "no drone" signs there. When I eventually return to Iceland for a proper photography trip, I'm considering taking a drone with me (although I need a new one cos my last one broke! :( ).
There are no changes in the Great Geysir itself unfortunately. Only in some other springs in the geysir area. (Strokkur is a little bit more powerful, Blesi became a perpetual spouter again with jets to 1m, Konungshver is bubbling again).
Thank you for the incredible drone coverage. I was wondering was there a building of some kind built over that geyser? The square outline around the edge looks like humans made it.
Interesting. In a country where geysers/volcanoes could pop up just about anywhere, the people who handle civil planning and engineering really earn their money!
If I remember correctly from my trip in 2018 the Geysir area was a no-drone area. On the other hand there is footage from there. So maybe a permit is required ?
The road embankment is very thick and the road administration drilled holes trough it and placed steel pipes there to keep the steam from reaching the surface, and it worked to keep the road safe, at lest still....but it's up to 100c beside the road embankment.
You are literally the entire outside world's leading source of Icelandic volcanism news and data; we hear about the geysers, we look to you first. When Americans think of geysers, we think Yellowstone. Maybe that could be an angle. Hell, come on over and visit with your thermal drone, that'd be extremely informative because I've never seen thermal footage of Yellowstone.
the shot directly above the geyser was absolutely awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The historical data of your thermal scans over time will help provide a wealth of data for the scientists to analyse.
Citizen science for the win.
That geothermal area is getting really really interesting... Thank you.
😀 welcome
I'm fully invested in the hot highway saga :)
Great :)
Thank you very much for your calm and well thought out videos.
Glad you like them!

Fascinating stuff. Your cameras bring it right out of the screen. Cheers.
Enjoy :)
Thanks for the geothermal update! And we get another video in the next few days? I'm stoked.
Working on it :)
You have such a nice voice, very calming. Thankyou for another nice video.
😊 thank you
Spectacular overhead geyser footage!!!!!
Enjoy :)
I like the shot of the horses! having owned horses in the past I thought it was really cool.
Thank you Gylfi...your thermal drone shots are a very good way of keeping track of the area of heat spread as time goes on...I love the geyser shots...they are spectacular...

Much appreciated and always welcome 🤗
Well, that is one way to keep snow off the road 🙂
And it's cheap :)
Cool! Or hot! 😉
The thermal footage of the Icelandic horses was great too.
Looking forward to the next video. 👍♥️
Thank you, Gylfi!

Enjoying the thermal images from the drone along with you clear descriptions.
Loved the horses! The roof with the writing on it amused me. Definitely the geothermal area is expanding! Oh, and that shot of the geyser erupting from above was awesome!
Thank you, Gylfi. I've been anticipating more news on those thermal hotspots; they certainly seem to have grown in size since the last update.
Hello everyone from New York State
Greetings from Iceland :)
awesome update Gylfi and yes those hot areas on the side of highway 1 is expanding for sure :)))) best regards from Denmark

Thank you for this update. Clearly things continue to change there by, and under the road.
Always welcome :)
Wow, you've gone up to a totally different level to the rest, congratulations & thanks!!
Thanks! 😃
Thank you for taking us with you on the droneflight. Very interesting. As always. Greetings from Netherlands

Thank you again Gylfi ❤
No problem 😊
Simply spectacular! (Especially the aerial footage of the hot water spring, geyser). 😊
Many thanks!
Hi Gylfi,
Great thermal footage. Hope to hear somewhere in the future how and why it’s heating up.
Stay safe.
More soon :)
Great photos and comment . Very interesting with the thermal camera. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it

That Highway is so hot. 😏
Thanks for the update.
Great filming of the Geyser area.
Thanks for watching!
We think of geothermal areas as a constant, but they're not as you get small variations in the heat flow powering these systems.
I still say someone could open a roadside rye bread bakery with all of that heat and serve it with that great Icelandic butter.
Yes it's about time 😀

It’s fascinating how the thermal drone is picking up the changes around highway 1. Loved watching geysir when in Iceland, a truly amazing spectacle
It really is an amazing camera :)
I'm glad you got back down to the Hot Highway with the thermal drone, I suspect the area may need closer watching.
👍😁😳🤩🍀Thank you.
Thank you too!

very nice location when we visited.
Thanks for visiting
Aloha from Makaha....
Is the upcoming video about that erea where you found those new fumaroles/steamholes along the side of the track?
It's by Trölladyngja volcano near the place where eruption no3 took place in August last year.
Strokkur looking beautiful there. If you go, say hello to Geysir for me. He's not as active as he once was but a few years ago I had the privilege to have my toes soaked when he decided to say hello just as I walked up :)
Interesting. 😊❤
Glad you think so!
Looks like they'll need to reroute it around that spot to avoid any more disruptions
Interesting. I can't quite work out which road this would be on a map.
I left a google map link in the video description :)
05:30 - Looks like a square structure at the mouth of the geysir. Manmade?
I can't say, but it looks so..
Looks like they my eventully have to move that hiway or its going to melt lol.
Shall that road that is heating up turn into a geyser eventually, I would like to suggest it to be named Gylfi :)
I support that idea :)
There are no changes in the Great Geysir itself unfortunately. Only in some other springs in the geysir area. (Strokkur is a little bit more powerful, Blesi became a perpetual spouter again with jets to 1m, Konungshver is bubbling again).
Yes i would like to see Geysir wake up :)
💙💛
Always welcome 🤗
5:30 I noticed this almost perfect rectangular shape around the geyser and was wondering if someone knows what it is.
I can't say, but it looks manmade
Hopefully they close the road before motorists start leaving melted sections of tyre rubber on the road.
Thank you for the incredible drone coverage. I was wondering was there a building of some kind built over that geyser? The square outline around the edge looks like humans made it.

If I remember correctly from my trip in 2018 the Geysir area was a no-drone area. On the other hand there is footage from there. So maybe a permit is required ?
can this be the spot for the next eruption?
No but the could mess up a tourist hot spot, make it dangerous
How hot is the area around the road actually getting? Could you feel it if you touch the ground? Will it keep snow melted off the road?
The road embankment is very thick and the road administration drilled holes trough it and placed steel pipes there to keep the steam from reaching the surface, and it worked to keep the road safe, at lest still....but it's up to 100c beside the road embankment.
@@JustIcelandic WOW! I seriously did not expect that! 😮
Do you use an app like Litchi or so to define flight paths so you can compare several flights during a certain time span more easily?

Hi, can you tell me the location of this area?
Title of this show is missing an a in steming.
Fixed, thanks for letting me know :)
