Don't drill your bumper to attach that plate. Easy method.

- You just bought a new car. Your state requires you to have a front bumper. But you don't want to ruin your car by drilling holes in it. Here's a fail-safe method that will keep your plate attached without having to violate your bumper.
This worked well for almost three years. Just came loose on one side, so here's how to fix it if you have the same problem. Through rain, sleet, snow, and dark of night, your license plate is not going to fall off with this method.

The method is his way and there’s really no right or wrong way, or else we wouldn’t have videos explaining how? Try 3M SCOTCH Dual Lock. It's stronger than typical Velcro.

Wouldn't do this with anything less than Alfa Lok velcro and wouldn't do it on a back plate if there's any part of it hanging low enough to catch any wind. Trying to figure out a solution to hang my rear plate on my rv. Previous owner had nice, bright, large brake lights installed which means no space to hang the plate where it was designed to go under the brake light.
Unfortunately, in my experience, the glue on the tape side of the Velcro becomes gummy and loose in hot weather, causing it to detach. I’ve tried it for other applications (not a license plate) and without fail it has always umm… failed. Cool idea in theory, though I wouldn’t want to trust my plate to some Velcro. Oh, and I’ve tried a few different brands and had the same issue.
Just move to a dry climate. That will solve your velcro problem.

Thought about doing this... even bought some industrial strength Velcro. But where I live, the weather can get treacherous. I think I'll order something like the No Drill Required 3-Inch Bumper Guard Tube Mount License Plate Bracket/Holder but this is a great temporary solution.
I live in Kansas City. We get rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, high winds and sub-zero temps and days over 100 degrees in the summer. I've never had an issue with it coming off so far.

I think I'm going to try this tomorrow when the temps get to 13 for the high and see how I feel once it's done :) Seriously, I need to do something for now and see how it stands up while I look for a no-drill mount bracket that isn't a waste of money and will actually fit my car. Maybe there's a way I can reinforce it behind the fancy license plate frame I bought, as well, along with the Velcro. Thank you, again, for sharing this video.
@@pangelcolon We have 8 degrees this morning here in KC. 13 degrees is pretty cold, and if you're going to have any higher temps in a few days, I would probably wait until it warms up a bit so the Velcro will stick better. I don't know how it adheres when it's that cold when you apply it.
Just for all ye naysayers about this not staying on. Last week I got rear ended by a concrete truck. Mashed in the whole rear hatch and bumper. My plate didn't budge. So there you go.

whats to stop someone stealing your plates, and using them to commit crime, in uk we have ot screw them on with anti thieft screws to stop people stelaing them
We don't really have that problem here that I'm aware of.
It's a cool concept, but theft is the first thing I thought of. I'm in Southern California, people are shady here. I guarantee that would happen if someone noticed the plate like that ☹

@blastofo They do crimes with your plates on their car, it's caught on surveillance cameras. The police come after you and you have to prove it wasn't you. It happens a lot in the US.
I bought a thick rubber bumper thing for my front plate because it's attached with these long stabby hex bolts that actually protrude out front and would damage another car. The front plate attachment is drilled into the plastic (Volvo) bumper. I don't know about Velcro....that's...

What did it attach to on the car? Is there a matching piece of velcro on the car or is he simply applying the sticky surface directly to the bumper. If so isnt that as damaging as drilling holes?
Velcro attaches to the bumper and the plate. No damage involved. Works like a charm.
I know you’re just trying to be helpful but using velcro is a bad idea. It wont work if you have to mount it to a curved bumper. Velcro needs flat surfaces. The flat license plate will pull away from the velcro pads on the curved bumper. Also for many bumpers you can only have velcro on the top half of the plate so its even less secure. Many bumpers arent thick enough to secure the bottom too because the bottom hangs over the grille or radiator vent. And i’m not confident the velcro adhesive can withstand 120 degree heat in southern Nevada or constant rain in Washington for years. Best just to drill the holes or get a mount that attaches to the tow hook if the car has it.
For me it's not about the licence falling off, but getting stolen. It seems that more crooks are stealing licence plates now-a-days. I need to bolt the licence plates with lock nuts. (Sad world we live in)
Did I miss something? The plate on your grill that you attach the license plate to, is that part of the front grill or did you attach it to the car also. Am I supposed to be a mind reader? How come you didn't cover that in your video? It's still low on the left.

It's just Velcro. You can get it at Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, etc. Comes in different sizes and shapes.
I'm going to do this but glue gun screws in the holes so it looks drilled.
I think a good gust of wind may blow that plate off.

You would have been better off drilling holes since that part of the front end already had the bracket area built in. May have had a better chance if getting the plate on straight.

Anyone can steal the plate very easily and it can come loose and drop anywhere.

Both mine just got stolen, people who don't like to pay for fuel steal them, or even worse crimes like ram raiding. That's who.

Magnum yes screwed on, it’s one of those things you never suspect will happen so why waste time making it safer. But this kind of thing happens so I won’t be using Velcro, and even screws aren’t enough.. need safety screws, or bolts with a nut and locking nut on the first.. just to make them a pain to steal.

What's the issue with drilling holes in the bumper? The only upside to this is years later if/when you sell it privately to a buyer that lives in a state that doesn't require front plates you point out that there aren't drill holes there and he says "oh, ok. That's better than holes" and mentally adds $10 to your car's value.
Otherwise it's a liability, it can fall off, get yanked off in a carwash, or stolen.
The holes don't have much of a downside, they're under the plate.

This one is a personal favorite. Along the lines of putting a vinyl decal of the model of car you are driving at the top of your windshield. You have an Escape with a "Stang 1" plate ROTFL
The "1" probably drops the price on a vanity plate like it would in Illinois but, looks hokey. The obvious laugh is that it's on an ESCAPE!

@@koosylagoopagoop ummm, drill holes and use a nut and bolt? If you want it more secure (harder to steal) use a security bolt (AVsafe). Or just buy the license plate kit from Ford?! Then follow the instructions...
Velcroing is a loss waiting to happen and it's apparently hard to put the plate on plumb and square so it's kinda obvious that it isn't permanently (or well) attached which actually attracts would-be theives.
This is almost as creative as the zip tie - you must be drinking some ginseng cuz you're really on a creative roll.

If you live in an area where they have major wind storms, and it goes flying and hits a car window, causing an accident. You could be responsible.
