Been driving without one for years in CT (law exists). I’ve been pulled over for other things but never talked to about that by cops. On my way back from Canada a border patrol agent asked me why I don’t have it since my state requires it. I told him I never used one and if need be I’ll just pay my fine.

Sto n Sho all the way. I bolted mine instead of sticking it to the plastic. Summer heat + high speed runs on my M6 just pose too much of a risk for that thing flying off and causing more damage. I also put mine in the foot well of the front passenger seat unless I’m pulled over. Then it’s the classic “Oh officer, I always have it on but I took it off yesterday to wash my car and forgot to put it back on!”.
I was a aeronautical engineer and I spent 2 years doing wind tunnel testing. On some car models, a front license plate causes between 1% to 5% increase in gasoline usage. Front license plates are bad for gas mileage and bad for the environment. I wonder why woke states like California still require them when many states don't require a front license plate.
It's a great point. In California they need front plates to help identify criminals, which doesn't make sense either cause you know that car is stolen anyway.
I do hate front license plates. They block the radiator on some cars, causing the engine to run a little warmer. They also can block airflow to the engines air intake. On highly efficient, aerodynamic cars they disrupt the aerodynamics of the car. I can go on all day. I hate front license plates
I just glued two magnets in the back of the bumper, and another two shims into the plate, and that's it. And when I get pulled over here in Norway, I just say that I washed my car and forgot to put it back. Works for now :D
The carbonio plate holder attaches to the grille mesh as you mentioned but it’s rock solid. Absolutely no movement or risk to your paint and it goes on and off very easily. I keep it in the trunk for those “Aw shucks officer” moments 😂
I have the same sto n sho on my F80. I only "sho" the plate when I street park to avoid a fine from the NYC meter maids. In my experience a window tint + lowered car attracts police attention. Chances are you would have been ticketed if you weren't a local resident dropping your kids off at camp.
I have an old MA green plate that i restored to brand looking so I won't fail inspection from cracks or reflection. With old MA Green, i'm exempt from having a front plate. Wish I could remove on my other cars with the MA red plate and only put on for the once a year MA state inspection, then remove it until i get pulled over like you did. Lived in in jersey 20+ yrs still can't understand why a front plate. Never seen a cop in front of a car when reading tags (plates) and i am truck driver lol. Luckily i live in PA so no front plate!! But i feel your pain Tommy. Goodluck with the plate gadget.
If you are riding dirty, do not drive without a front plate. And make sure your registration is up to date and all your lights are functional including license plate light. And go the speed limit...not slower, not more.

I just moved from a 1 plate state to a 2 plate state. With millions of drivers, having just the rear plate seems as if it would save some money. A million dollars here, a million dollars there, and pretty soon we are talking about some real money!
@avlisk Years ago Connecticut decided to change from "2 Plates" to "Rear Only" for New Registrations. Simple renewals could stay with their "2 Plates". (In CT the Plates transfer with the Owner rather than the Vehicle.) This lasted for only a few years because all Law Enforcement, Local and State, made a unified request to bring back "2 Plates". CT DMV eventually agreed.

With a front license plate, it would be easier for some parking facilities where at gates, there no column for either dispensing a ticket or with a card reader for reading your card of choice as a parking ticket but only a camera positioned to only read your front license plate so any vehicle of length is supported. Also, when travelling to other countries by road such as #Canada, there would be less legal problems with having a front license plate especially when you travel to provinces such as British Columbia and Ontario. In countries such as #Taiwan, plenty of pay parking facilities are gated and don't issue any physical ticket but only scan your front license plate no matter if you're a casual visitor or a frequent customer.

Used Zip ties on my holder on the bottom grill on my 2014 cts..been 3 years no problem just got to be a little careful pulling uo on curbing..go through touch free car wash so far so good
I think the screws you put to hold the license plate on. I think you put them in reverse now they’re sticking out on the front. If you’re worried about appearances, then you might want to fix that.
I like that , I agree much better than the tow hook position , I have 2 collecting dust 😂, Another easy way is get 2 small bungy cords and zip tie one across the top two holes of the plate and one across the bottom two holes , then just hook it across into the lower grill area if the plate fits in there , It blocks the oil cooler so no pushing the car , Also it can be a gray area of the plate mounted to low , I checked the link you sent your does look different then the one they show 🤷🏻♂️, Thanks for sharing
Nice Nürburgring shirt! Because North Carolina doesn’t have a front license plate, I got away with using 3M mounting tape on my F32 for the seven years it was in Germany to avoid drilling holes before shipping it to the States. I do like your solution, though.
Save the hassle and register your vehicle in the south-east where front plates are optional or completely omitted. Also vehicles taxes are cheaper. Actually… just leave the north entirely. Lot less snow in the south and away from the rust belt. Wider highways and regular highway speeds actually baselines at 70 mph. Cheaper housing allowed me a bigger garage.

@@TommyLGarage They give you a hex key to tighten/loosen the holder, it's pretty simple to remove it. Not as quick as the method you showed, but when you do remove it it doesn't leave anything behind.
I've just got slapped with a $117 fine for the absence of front plate. My car comes from TX, where that plate wasn't necessary. Anyone might have any suggestions for me on how to reduce the fine?

Got pulled over today lead me to this video. Now I am not on probation or have any warrants. I am an law abiding citizen. He just let me off with a warning. However I will still never put a front plate on mine. #Freedom As long as the cop has nothing on you are fine. He can check all he want it does not bother me.

In Dallas County, TX being caught without a front license plate or out of date registration sticker means a $500 ticket. Gotta get those tax dollars for those social programs!
I drive a 2003 Mercedes E320, and live in a state that requires front plates, but I can't really go without the plate because without it I have no place to mount the "[Town Name] Firefighter" plate onto the car.
Considering they let people rent vehicles with out of state tags all over now... and people can keep their tags from other states even when they permanently live in a "front tag state," penalizing people for not having a front plate is silly as long as they have a registered back plate with proper sticker. Just a money grab.
Cops in NY will pull you over but rarely ticket you. NY wants that front plate on so their automatic readers can get coming as well as going. Front plates are ugly.

Just keep the plate assembly in the car. If youre pulled over than you could say that you are just heading to or just left the car show and forgot to put it on the car. @@TommyLGarage Just doesn't look like a clean install. The head of the screw should be showing, not the end of a bolt with a nut on it. Go look at your rear plate and the car next to this one.

It clears and doe not block the radiator or look ugly. On my late model Impala from Florida I just used sheet metal screws and screwed it to the upper plastic crappy bumper. Here in the midwest cops are despirate for money and the fine is high for no front tag...license plate.

Holes won't harm anything; it will go into the styrofoam piece
Strong suggestion: Order and add a wide border black license plate frame to your contraption. It usually includes black bolt caps too.

I mounted mine with strong magnets. Had to put a small clear bra and when the license plate is off absorbs metal but easy to wipe off.

You can plead not guilty and when you go to court bring proof of your front plate frame purchase and a photo. Should be dismissed or reduced

Good plan. I live in Maryland and theyre stupid about plates too. But I suppose if you really wanted to, you could install the plate mount and never put your plate on. Just keep the plate assembly in the car. If youre pulled over than you could say that you are just heading to or just left the car show and forgot to put it on the car. "Oh...I mustve forgot officer, here it is". Nice

@@TommyLGarage Just doesn't look like a clean install. The head of the screw should be showing, not the end of a bolt with a nut on it. Go look at your rear plate and the car next to this one.

Great option, but I think I will just take the fix it ticket.

Most of my cars have a front tag and a place to put it. On my Model A I just used a stainless reartail light bracket mounted to the front center bumper bolt. It clears and doe not block the radiator or look ugly.
On my late model Impala from Florida I just used sheet metal screws and screwed it to the upper plastic crappy bumper.
Here in the midwest cops are despirate for money and the fine is high for no front tag...license plate.
