- Front Plate Attachment Method with NO DRILLING!
Don't drill holes in your new car to attach that front plate. This video shows a quick, easy, simple, secure, and inexpensive method that's worked for me multiple times and never fallen off. Rain and wind, car washes, or highway driving won't make it lose its grip.
Leave a comment if you have a better method. Would love to hear your input and what you think about my method. It worked for three years on the Mustang and almost four years on the Escape. Cost me about $3.00 for the velcro. Can't beat it with a stick.

Thanks for sharing!!!! I was sooooo dreading drilling holes in my new accord. And it most definitely worked!
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for the comment!
Is it still working? I am afraid of the rain and wind.
@@MagnumVideosyes please provide an update
@@ulivision the person who uploaded responded to me and noted its holding up with the rain still.
This video is exactly what I needed to see. I need to attach a license plate bracket on my daughter's car.
Hey sir! I just wanted to give you a big shout out and thank you. I just moved to Texas and ran into the problem with not realizing I needed a front plate lol. Got those Velcro strips and it prevented me from drilling into my bumper. I just wanted to say thank you!
Thanks for the comment!
had the same issue when I moved to Texas , this video just saved me lol
Same here!
Haha same here.. moved to texas and now need front plates on my Mustang...
😂😂 so I’m not the only one. I just received my plates and asked “why do I need two?” I was dreading adding holes to my 2022 bby. So I UA-cam other ways and BOOM this just saved me the heartache. Lol
Thank you so much!! I surely didn't want to drill holes in my bumper. 😁
IF YOU TAKE A RAZOR BLADE AND CUT A SLIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VELCRO BACKING IT MAKES IT EASIER TO REMOVE IT
Thank you so much for showing me things. I was so scared to drill holes in my bumper. This is going to help out so much. 😊
You're very welcome. I hope it helps you.
Thanks! Nice job! Unfortunately, my 2023 Nissan Kicks needs a bracket installed on the front bumper to have a place to put it. 🙃 Who knows, maybe I'll be able to Velcro that part to the bumper too, then the plate. I hope all that sticks with monsoon rains. 😁Wish me luck! 🤞
World’s smartest UA-camr from missouri. Attaching license plates with Velcro?
Stang plate hell yaaaaa..I'm in the right channel
What exactly are you using to attach? A certain type of sticky Velcro?
You trust that Velcro more than i trust any human being 😂
Someone can steal your license plate or weather will eventually wear out the velcro. Not recommended for long time use IMO
Anyone with a screwdriver can steal any other regularly attached license place
@Bill C I'd argue that a person with an electric drill could take that plate off quicker then a Velcro plate - that stuff is not easy if it's been locked together long term, especially tangled and dirty. Zerrrp - 1 screw, Zerrrp 2-screw , plates off. Nobodies' walking around with a screw driver if they're serious about taking a plate
They do make snap on brackets for license plates and I’m sure they’re more secure than velcro
Someone would have to have enough suspicion to attempt to pry it off. This is something you’re either certain of or not. So this whole scenario isn’t practical. 😂
@@masonm7357 not really, in fact those that needed to remove the plate cannot take it off
cool guy! relaxing video.. great music during the credits!
asking to lose your plate doing it this way, I won't be using this method.
After 3 years of having my new car i finally got a ticket for not having my front plate on 🤣 so searching for ways to put my plate on haha
This method works great and doesn't fall off at high speeds or in car washes.
Your 3 year old "new" car?
I appreciate your resourcefulness - if people don't like your idea's - simple don't watch - why take the time to post something negative? It speaks more about them as a person than anything and puts it on blast for people to see! I love this idea and have used sticky Velcro on so much stuff! I recently moved to a place that requires a front plate so I will most definitely give this a go! Thanks :)
That Part! Exactly.
3M makes different types of dual lock pads. I am going to use this on my plate
Fordian slip 😂 that's funny
Thank you for sharing. My personalized rear license plate was stolen several years ago. California Dept of Motor Vehicles said if the thief stole my front and rear plates, I could no longer use my personalized configuration😮. I would rather pay the fine than have a thief also steal my personalization. Is it the same in Missouri? Would hate for you to lose your very cool personalization.
U save me, great idea, thanks ❤
My 2014 subaru needs this. What is the manufacturer of the velcro product you used, l want to make sure it has sticking power
How do you make sure the velcro doesn't come off the car while driving
It's very sticky and isn't going to fall off.
Thanks for your help! I took it one step further and used a hair dryer on hot setting to really get the plate to stick to the mount and then again on the car after cleaning it with alcohol. It's perfect!
Sounds like a good application.
How do it hold up with car washes and rain? It doesn't loose its stickiness?
I haven't had any issues with car washes or rain. It doesn't affect it at all.
Thanks friend!
Would high winds from going 60+ mph make it fall off??
No. My highway driving is at 70 or 80mph and it's never fallen off. Very secure.
What brand velcro you bought
That's alright, I just watched a video of a dude drilling holes in the BODY on the front of his car for the plate. No Thank You!
However, I don't have the luxury of that flat surface that you have. I have about a 4 in surface that curves downward and nothing under that to secure the bottom of the plate to.
I have a g body Monte Carlo having the same problem
It holds when the Velcro is new. But I do believe eventually you will hit a bump or something and you will lose your license plates there’s a lot of force driving 60,70 miles an hour with wind and bumps. Those are not going to stay on there. Unfortunately, my recommendation would still be using old fashion screws.
I've been using this method for 8 years on my Ford Escape and never had an issue so far.
@@MagnumVideos okay. Wow I really thought it would have failed
I’m going to try this because if it comes off, oh well, I live in a state where front isn’t required. I just want to put on a cool non permanent vanity plate.
Great idea!
Thanks! I appreciate the comment. It actually works great.
Good thing I just happened on this video!
Thanks for watching!
Why not just use 3m tape?
When you have to take this off to sell trade etc. will it take paint off car?
I've never had it do that. It should be perfectly friendly to your paint.
Good idea
Velcro not designed for outdoor, weather condition will shrink the material …
One minute he is holding the plate , the next minute the plate is on the truck . Did I miss something ?
I am afraid this will not stick in -20 degree weather! will the velcro hold it also gets 115 degrees here! I do not want to keep replacing license plates.
Mine has been on for 5 years so far.
Two holes will not hurt your plastic bumper trim. Velcro adhesive will not last through the summer heat.
I beg to differ. Mine has been on for 4 years so far. No problem whatsoever.
@@MagnumVideos are you in the north or south?
@@CriticalThinker27 I'm in the midwest. 100 degree summers and 0 degree winters.
Hi what is the name of the sticky stuff called and where do u get it from?
Its called VELCRO. You can find it at Lowes or Hobby Lobby. Just tell them you want sticky back VELCRO.
@@MagnumVideos thanks allot
You are so smart.
Awww, shucks. Thanks for watching it and for the comment. You rock.
thank you for sharing
Thanks for the info
Will the sticky back Velcro take the paint off the bumper?
I haven't had any problem with any paint coming off.
How long was it before someone came up and snatched your plate off your car? lolz
Very. Useful video. Where did you get the Velcro adhesive?
Lowes and Home Depot carries it. Maybe you can find it at Hobby Lobby, too.
Are you sure the paint won't come off? And I live in Michigan where weather can get really bi polar, would it work even then?
I've use this method on two cars and three license plates and have never had an issue with paint coming off or cold weather.
Did you lose your license plates after 3 and 4 years?
Awesome
Hi Sir, Thank you for your sharing. Could you please let me know which dual lock you used? There are too many brand dual lock in the market. I'm looking for a dual lock durable and won't fall off.
I just bought a package of velcro squares from Lowes or Hobby Lobby. I can't remember which it was. Just standard velcro with sticky backs.
@@MagnumVideos Thank you Sir.
Hi ! where did you get your silver plate ? I can't find any online with the full back like yours ?
So where to buy velcro tape? Auto store or hardware??? And is a particular brand best?
The wife just got a new tag for her SUV. I'll try this. What type of two-sided tape did you use? You never showed it.
It's Velcro.
How did you mount the plate that the tag stuck to?
Will that sticky hold up to rain and vibration?
Yes. Mine have been on for five years with no issues.
@@MagnumVideos Looks like you mentioned you purchased the Velcro from hobby lobby (looks like 3m). Is the frame necessary? Also, do you think the Velcro would stick to the bumper? Looks like you placed it in front of the vent area.
I'm not sure if it's 3M or not. It just said sticky back velcro or something like that. If the bumper is clean it should stick fine. I've used this process on the Ford Escape and prior to that on my Mustang GT and I think I put it on the bumper. I have been seeing TV ads for "Monkey Magnets" which are sticky back magnets that might work for this application as well. The Velcro is going to be cheaper though. @@GunterandthePenguins
@@MagnumVideos Oh that's good to hear! I'm going to be doing it on a Camry. The magnets are a good idea. That way I could put them. Behind the bumper and on the license plate, but you're probably right that the Velcro is the most correct efficient option. I'm gonna get a frame (so it looks nicer) then try this out. Thank you for doing the video and for the feedback :)
Thank you.
That looks easy to steal
Will the license plate come off if I I take to a a drive thru car wash ?
Mine never did. It's very secure.
How can I buy this
How about on a big rig the long drives and hard winds will be ok ?
I can't tell you that for sure, but I know I've driven lots of miles in the past 5 years and it gets pretty windy here, and I haven't had it blow off yet. Velcro is pretty dependable stuff usually.
Where would u buy this kind of velcro sticking plate?
You can buy the velcro at Hobby Lobby or Home Depot or Lowes.
Would this work on a plastic bumper?
Sure. Velcro sticky back sticks to everything.
what type of velcro did you buy?
I just got a package with small rectangles of squares in it. About an inch square I think. Black. Cheap. Nothing fancy. They were sticky-back so they went on really simple.
Have somebody walk up and just take ur tag in a blink of an eye
if someone wants to steal it they will probbably ;)
my concern is someone could easily steal the plate
Something I thought of, especially once they notice there's no bolts holding it on.😕
July 3rd next day is independence Day 🤦🏼♂️
What about when you go through a car wash? Does it stay on?
Yes. I've never had any issues with it coming off. Period.
thank you for the video I'm going to try it on my 4runner I have two quarters holes going to advertise my shop using a front lic. plate. I do have a question since its been 2 yrs is it still holding ? thank you
Yes. It held the whole time. I recently replaced the plate with a new one and I used the same method. It's been secure and no issues have evolved.
@@MagnumVideos What method did you use to get the sticky back tape off when you replaced your license plate? Thanks!
@@user-hl5xi3kw9d I just pulled it off. Although it is rather sticky, but it will come off if you peel it away from the plate.
Will the sticky tape remove the paint?
Hi, Can you share the link to buy that double sided velcro?
It's not actually double-sided velcro. It's just regular velcro with a sticky back on both the loops side and the hooks side. If you go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask someone they can show you exactly what you need. Also, Hobby Lobby or Michaels should have it. Or you can search online for "sticky back velcro" or something similar to that description. It's very common and not hard to find. Thanks for watching!
@@MagnumVideos Perfect.. thanks
@@gopikrishnasamsu You're very welcome. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Does it hold in place when you go through a car wash?
Yes. Mine have never fallen off.
That only works if you have a flat spot on your grill. Won’t work on a gmc pick up
Never hold up in high speeds
Never had any problems with mine.
would this fall off with a carwash? It really annoys me having to put a front plate. I think its dumb because if you are getting pulled over an officer will be behind you.
Mine has been through several car washes and didn't fall off. The velcro is very secure. And I agree front plates are ridiculous. My wife has a Miata and I've never figured out where to attach one on the front.
ist rain mine fell off
Btw son got $76 ticket for not putting his plate on and having it in window on dash.
I got 120$
@@ItsGagandeepSingh oh man....
Doesn't work for modern silicone frames.
But ..With Velcro anybody could just come up and swipe it off if they notice that you don’t actually have it screwed to the car. I honestly think that in a state that requires a front license plate you may as well drill the front of your car because you are going to get stopped at some point whether you’re speeding or whether you run a light by accident and you’re gonna get fined on top of whatever they stop you for because you don’t have a properly installed front plate. And Velcro overtime is gonna give out it’s not meant to be used out the weather, heat, Etc.
Nothing preventing someone with a screwdriver or drill to do the same thing. And if you use industrial strength Velcro, that plate is not coming off until you want it to.
I'm not convinced that this will hold up, specially if you drive over patchy, uneven roads, like the ones we have here in South Florida (i.e. I-95 and FL Turnpike).
Mine has been on for 5 years and we have a lot of potholes in the midwest.
@@MagnumVideos I'll give it a try. Thanks.
You don’t need a front plate in florida
Hi where can i buy this kind of velcro?
Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, hardware store.
How about railroad tracks and pot holes?
I haven't had any issues with either of those.
Where did you purchase the plate bracket
I'm not sure, but they have them at Auto Zone and O'Reilley I'm sure. They might even have them at Walmart.
Where did you buy the supplies? Nice video
It was either Home Depot, Lowe's, or Hobby Lobby. It's just Velcro strips. Easy to find.
@@MagnumVideos I went to staples and hooked mine up yesterday immediately after I watched the video. Thanks again, I received 2 tickets in 1 week because of this.
@@jamaica2010ism you got a ticket cause you used tape instead of screws? That doesn't make a lot of sense
@@TheLumiAdvisor No, he used this method to put on plate bcz he got 2 tickets already.
What type of tape is that?
It's sticky back velcro strips.
Anyone take a vehicle through a car wash with this sticky back velcro? I would not trust it. And if the brush pulls off the plate or bracket, the damage done will be a lot worse than a few holes in a bumper. (You can plug those holes if needed)
Mine have been through the car wash at least 50 times and never any issues. And even if it did pull it off, I highly doubt there would be ANY damage since the Velcro is stuck to the bumper and not attached with a screw. It has worked great for me on the last two cars.
Hi! What kind of tape are you using?
Sticky back VELCRO strips. Home depot or Lowe's. Walmart may have it, too.
@@MagnumVideos thanks!
Is the brand name "sticky back"?
I don't understand from what you show how it attaches to the car.
The Velcro has a sticky back. You stick one piece on the bumper and one piece on the license plate.
So, use Velcro. Got it. 🤦♂
I like your resourcefulness but you are better off drilling holes. They are, of course, completely hidden by the OEM plate bumper mount on most vehicles. If the person you sell your car to doesn’t want it on anymore (unlikely around here: CA requires them and you *will* be ticketed - not by the cops, but by parking enforcement) you can buy some matching color plugs that snap in and sit flush on the bumper holes so you can’t even see them unless you are looking. Takes 5 seconds. Note that the holes are only 3/8” anyway, same as a .38 pistol bullet or a pen.
This looks like double sticky tape and not velcro
It's Velcro.
@@MagnumVideos Kool. Hard to tell on the phone but on full size computer it's easy to tell. Thanks.

That won't last here in TEXASS.. It's too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. At least I don't want to buy new plates from LOSS because it falls off. I really thought you would have a BETTER idea than that. But at least you're on the dance floor. But yeah that just happened to me. My car has NO front plate and barely anywhere to put it GMC.... I guess I will go with the bracket idea/toggle bolts.. Seriously I thought you were like a Grandpa type of dude who knew stuff. You don't know it's not safe to use velcrow. You can't spit shine velcrow sneakers. LOL anyway.. I had to say that. Thanks for the idea. If my car was in a museum or car show on display and I didn't drive it. Then YA great idea. But in real world where peeps can get tickets and plates stolen. I Won't be using this idea and people who say it's GREAT are lying. No joke
This is the most unecessary comment I think I've ever read on a video on youtube. If you dont like the idea then dont watch it and make your own video. No one wants nor asked for your negativity. End it bye.
There is a reason nearly 100 PERCENT of the population Drills Holes in their bumpers to Screw in their License Plates and that is because it is the MOST EFFECTIVE and LONG LASTING solution that is extremely UNLIKELY to EVER FAIL. This guy gluing and Velcroing a License Plate is NEVER going to last and is NO substitute for Drilling Holes and Screwing in your License Plate.
