I saw somewhere that uniquely high souls, like Almalexia, is pretty much wasted when used on armor for constant effects. This is because the armor’s enchantment limit kicks in faster. For weapons, this is not the case, as higher soul would provide higher encahntment pool(=higher number of usage before depletion). So for uniquely high souls it is better to use it for enchanting your weapons.
@@koeibgm you're only supposed to use size 400 souls for enchanting constant effects, not any lower or higher because then the charge will be wasted. use the 1000 and 1500 souls for on-use or on-strike enchantments that take a lot of charge instead. apparel is actually better than weapons for that because some helmets, shields and jewelry have enchant capacities much higher than any weapon

Code patch fixed the unarmoured bug: "Unarmored fix. Unarmored skill now gives proper damage reduction when you are fully unarmoured. Previously you had to wear at least one piece of armour to get any armour rating contribution."
One thing that is missing here and that I could not find anywhere is at which armour rating is the 75% cap reached? For example - In Skyrim, the mitigation is capped at 80% and it is reached at armour rating of 567 - going beyond that armour value is pointless. Now - armour value in Morrowind - what value gives 75%? It would be a useful information when optimising an armour, wouldn't it? Obviously, in excessive armour value would still be useful in Morrowind, given the fact that armour gets damaged but still...
Chiming in a year later: there is no such value. Armor Reduction, in denominator at 5:50, is derived from incoming damage itself. It is either 1 + ArmorRating/Damage or 4, whichever is less (that's why incoming damage can never be reduced more than 4 times, leaving that 25%). So you technically never can "cap out" - if you meet an opponent that deals absurd amounts of damage (i.e. significantly greater than your armor rating, such that Armor Reduction stays close to 1), your armor would hardly block anything.
Does this block chance percentage only apply to hits that will land or is the percentage applied to all attacks that you receive? For example if the enemy has a 40% chance to land a hit, and that check passes, does the block chance then apply or does it overlap with your evasion chance.
8:51 : I have MW+BM+T with OMW 0.45. Sometimes when I try to backstab a monster with a shield (e.g. Skeleton Champion) it will spontaneously block, even from right behind it, before it even readies its weapon (like when you hit the F key)... Anyone else encounter this? Thanks.
Personally, I only use Light Armor on any of my characters. The weight of Heavy Armor, and the encumbrance that comes with it, is absolutely brutal and slows you down far too much. But most importantly: the sound it makes when your heavy armored body parts are hit is FAR too loud, even with a low sound effect volume in the settings. My neighbours came to my door and complained about the loud CLONK sound.
I mostly play skyrim when I tried oblivion next it was pretty good then I tried morrowind and at first I was so Lost until I found out how to play it's really fun in my opinion ^-^
So if I wanted to level all armor types up at once, as evenly as possible, what would be the most efficient combination of my armor pieces to reap the most benefit?
Youre the best. I want to download morrowind today but im having second thoughts like there are no quest markers you have to figure out everything urself and confusing stats, this game is hard. But I didnt even manage to beat oblivion how can I beat this? (Yes i beat skyrim)
It's completely possible, and if you have troubles just go out looking for the solution in the internet. No questmarkers make it harder.but the journal will help enough.

I'm wondering what armor rating you need to actually reach that 75% resistance cap. For example, in Skyrim, anything above 567 armor rating is useless, because that's the number that puts you at the resistance cap in that game. But this is Morrowind, so I'm sure it's not nearly that sensible.
Hello there! Can you please cover one more question? Is there any way armor and unarmored skills collide with each other? And more specifically - does it make any sense to combine unarmored skill with one of the armor skills while creating a character? I'm asking this because there are some default classes that combine anarmored and armor skills in major and/or minor skills. And thank you for your guides. I have played Morrowind for a lot of hours since 2007 or so and still a lot of points you cover are brand new for me. Good work.
Armor skills and the unarmored skill only work together when you have an armor slot that is empty or occupied by clothing. So for example, if you're wearing a full suit of armor and a shield, then unarmored is useless to you unless you decide to unequip at least one piece of armor or the shield. Unfortunately, a lot of the pre-made classes you can pick are inefficient. My best guess is that they were made so that early game encounters are a bit easier and likely a bit of RP thrown in.
Man, I could never figure out why my unarmored skill kept going up randomly when I was fully armored. I always forget about the shields. I never use them or block in any games. I will now.
Is it wasteful to take all four armor skills? I really wanted to use Ebony armor late-game, but I also wanted to wear Wolf armor and Bear armor, and I wanted to be able to be a barbarian sometimes...
That's correct! The only time it does is if you see the armor is specifically enchanted to do so. There's no hidden stat or influence to your spell effectiveness like there is in Oblivion.
NOTE What Lyle says regarding the Boots VS Gloves. IT MEANS that we can mix and match gloves!!!! Don't it!!!! So maybe you want one glove from the treestump one thief glove? And one Custom Enchanted glove maybe?
As far as I know, it exists on all versions. I don't believe there's any changes between the pc and xbox version that alter any formulae. It's all just for performance and playability with a controller. That said, I can't say for sure being as I don't have a working orignal xbox to try it out on.
Enchantment is weird. Even with the Enchantment points on armor and clothing also weapons is weird as well. But with enchanting you can echant armor weapons and clothing even piece of paper as a one time use scroll. Ironically daedric supposed to have really high Enchantment point limit. I guess that the devs had either made it like they intended to do or the fact that they haven't balanced it correctly. But there's some armor and weapon echantments that was done by leveled loot is somehow you can't out do or even match the Enchantment level as them.
Wouldn't reducing your enemies agi/luck/weapon skill make it harder for you to block because they have to land an attack in order for you to block it? If you nerf their stats too much you'll just dodge everything they throw at you. The same is true for increasing your own agi and luck. I think the best way to increase block chance is to fortify the block skill. The bound shield comes with +10 but if you're well off you can make a +45 block daedric tower shield.
There is no such absolute value. For any given enemy, the "cap" would be 3 times their maximum possible damage, which, in turn, depends on that enemy's strength attribute, their weapon, and its condition.
@@stanislavblinov8454 Oh I see, so Morrowind dont have an armor cap like in Skyrim? I think it was 557 or something right? 500 something anyway any armor above this cap would be useless in Skyrim

In real life, maybe, but in the context of the game there's really nothing to suggest that it would. Especially since Morrowind's blocking uses formulas and dice rolls rather than direct player input
General armor rating under your character is not used in resulting damage formula -- only attacked slot of your character places it's armor rating to that formula, it's quite obvious. That general armor rating value is shown there only to confuse players. It should be shown as in Daggerfall instead. Why I'm so sure in it? -- Because every hit, for example, on "player's" character makes a particular sound, depending on type of armor being hit. It's quite convenient. In your variant it looks like only few pieces of tough armor (which skill you have mastered) will protect you equally regardless of attacked slot. Pffff...
I'm not sure if I entirely understand what you mean here. When you get hit, a certain armor piece does take condition damage. However the armor rating value shown in the menu is still what's used for determining your character's damage mitigation. It includes weighted values for all of your armor (or lack thereof), plus any shield spell effects. You can test the accuracy of this with console commands. Spawn in daedric armor and then spawn in chitin armor. Equip half of each. Then, set your heavy armor skill to something high very high and then set your light armor skill to just 1. Finally, start fighting a high damage enemy. If the formula only used the armor rating for the piece of armor that was struck, then your incoming damage would fluctuate wildly depending on whether the attacker hit your weak armor or your strong armor. Because the formula takes into account all of your armor, you will take about the same amount of damage each time (within the margin of the enemy's own attack damage range). The idea behind this system is that it makes it easier to equip and level the skill of a few pieces of armor that you aren't yet skilled at using.
Completely stupid and illogical... So, my weak slots are weak only generally? Sheogorath must have coded this stupid system. What about disbalancing hits and knocking down -- what, along with agility, influences here? What happens with armor rating, dodge chance and chance of being hit when character is knocked down? (I know, your oxygen reserve is nullified, if you're knocked down, while swimming.)
Also, my shield should be getting destroyed, that's what I got it for. The shield takes damage so the armor doesn't, the armor takes damage so I don't. I take damage so my king doesn't. That's what being an Imperial Knight is all about, or something.
Cant be enchanted is the drawback. On the plus side its light but gives an ar of daedric heavy armor. I assume it uses light armor skill in the formula?
That's because there isn't a clear cut one-to-one conversion from armor rating to damage mitigation. Unfortunately, to figure out the exact mitigation you're getting, you'd need to crunch numbers for every encounter. I try to make an emphasis on the points of armor and blocking that are more relevant while actually playing. That said, there's definitely a few things I'd like to change about this video if I ever had the chance.
you have to be an absolute dweeb to make a 12 minute video on morrowind armor and blocking mechanics and I really love it keep it up

I have MW+BM+T with OMW 0.45. Sometimes when I try to backstab a monster with a shield (e.g. Skeleton Champion) it will spontaneously block, even from right behind it, before it even readies its weapon (like when you hit the F key)...
Anyone else encounter this? Thanks.
And you forgot to mention, that only hand weapons inflict condition damage to armor pieces (any successful blocking still damages used shield).
FUCKING. SUBSCRIBED
How do i get a skirt like that or just in general? 2:06
I played Morrowind also very Crazy .... i could fast Travel with my Jump Underwear Pants half of the Complete Map with one Jump
Where do you get skirts from? Like location
So if I wanted to level all armor types up at once, as evenly as possible, what would be the most efficient combination of my armor pieces to reap the most benefit?
The most efficient way to level all armour types would be heavy boots and gauntlets, light boots, shoulders and helm, and heavy cuirass
@@n.stahmer4885 lol have been playing morrowind for 2 months its the best. Btw when should I start playing the DLCs? Like Im at like level 7 and I dont know if I should start doing quests for DLCs.
@@stavroskoul119 Haha well I'm also just around lvl. 13 so and haven't started yet but I remember something a long the lines that Solstheim (Blood moon) should be around lvl 10-20 and Tribunal endgame (after main quest I assume) so I hope that helps
@@stavroskoul119 naw wait on the dlc man
Lol
I'm wondering what armor rating you need to actually reach that 75% resistance cap.
For example, in Skyrim, anything above 567 armor rating is useless, because that's the number that puts you at the resistance cap in that game. But this is Morrowind, so I'm sure it's not nearly that sensible.
i have a" question , do you get exp to conjuration using "demon weapons" by casting the demon enchant spell?
@@LyleShnubok, I get it. I was guessing if high unarmored skill can lower your armor rate if you wear full set of armor. Thanks!
Does that mean if i wamt to make an umarmored monk i should put unarmored and an other armor class on my major/ minor skils?
Man, I could never figure out why my unarmored skill kept going up randomly when I was fully armored. I always forget about the shields. I never use them or block in any games. I will now.
Is it wasteful to take all four armor skills? I really wanted to use Ebony armor late-game, but I also wanted to wear Wolf armor and Bear armor, and I wanted to be able to be a barbarian sometimes...
Real quick segue... use CS to give Beast races slightly better abilities to help compensate for the lack of boots/shoes/helmet. Enjoy, Outlander!
Yeah, not being able to use the Boots of Blinding Speed really blows for Khajiit and Argonian characters!
I take it armor has no influence over spell casting, then?
That's correct! The only time it does is if you see the armor is specifically enchanted to do so. There's no hidden stat or influence to your spell effectiveness like there is in Oblivion.
NOTE What Lyle says regarding the Boots VS Gloves. IT MEANS that we can mix and match gloves!!!! Don't it!!!! So maybe you want one glove from the treestump one thief glove? And one Custom Enchanted glove maybe?
Just wanted to say thanks ;)
What is you having under that common robe?
A set of armor that can witstand gods
Is enchanting actually worth it? I've never career about it once in Skyrim or Oblivion as the magic doesn't interest me
U r great, love ur stuff bro
Remember the fortify attributes glitch but replace the attributes with Feather
Does the unarmored bug you discuss effect the original xbox or only the pc version?
Great video
Nice Video!
so what would the armor cap be at? etc 500 ? 200?
There is no such absolute value. For any given enemy, the "cap" would be 3 times their maximum possible damage, which, in turn, depends on that enemy's strength attribute, their weapon, and its condition.
@@stanislavblinov8454 Oh I see, so Morrowind dont have an armor cap like in Skyrim? I think it was 557 or something right? 500 something anyway any armor above this cap would be useless in Skyrim
@@geraltgrey-mane695 No hard absolute cap, no. It all depends on incoming damage. The higher it is, the lower your armor reduction.
@@stanislavblinov8454 Oh thank you! :) Even tho I no longer play as a character who use any armor only cloth :D Mage ftw haha but still good info to have
@@geraltgrey-mane695 Heh, I'm the opposite right now. Been playing unarmored characters for years, now just trying out armor-clad warriors. 100000000% jank compared to mages, but it's still fun to play just for novelty :D
Why didnt you include artifacts? They usually have way higher enchantments than any item can be enchanted with.
why do you say it is weird that block chances increase with moving? isn't that logical?
In real life, maybe, but in the context of the game there's really nothing to suggest that it would. Especially since Morrowind's blocking uses formulas and dice rolls rather than direct player input
me a skyrim player : ARMOR IS ARMOR!
Ok folks... best amour enchantments... for me i like telekenisis constant effect on the deadric face of war.
My head hurts now
you are getting hit in Morrowind? - the first thing I do is getting "constant 100% chameleon"...
👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why the heck would they simplify the armor slots so much? Like come on I doubt people wanted that
Also, my shield should be getting destroyed, that's what I got it for. The shield takes damage so the armor doesn't, the armor takes damage so I don't. I take damage so my king doesn't. That's what being an Imperial Knight is all about, or something.
This guy has less the 1k subs wtf
1:33 that's some dodgy editing!! 😀
I'm playing Morrowind on my GODDAMN ANDROID PHONE. This is crazy cool, check out openMW it's free and it's amazing.
The future is beautiful!!
Armor is useless in Morrowind apart from looking cool. All you need is SANCTUARY.
Totally. Enchanting capacity is probably the most important stat on armor
Just conjure armor
Cant be enchanted is the drawback. On the plus side its light but gives an ar of daedric heavy armor. I assume it uses light armor skill in the formula?
@@dem5393 hmm perhaps, i quite have no idea, im more of a sorcerer in all my runs in morrowind, only use unarmored and spells only
Lol rocket science to play a game? Challenge excepted.
That video was not very usefull. You did not told us how much damage mitigation each point of armor rating provides.
