The weird, three-eyed tentacle monster is called a Froghemoth. It's an abberration strong enough, in lore anyway, to match and eat a black dragon, the race of dragon that prefers swamps
12:30 it is an example of _an_ ouroboros, but the name of the world serpent in Norse mythology is Jormungandr. Depictions of snakes/dragons eating its own tail exists in multiple myths, as symbols of eternity, cycles, rebirth, even fertility, etc.
The Snake/Lizard people in these fantasy media often get depicted as Aztec is due to modern pop culture and their view.
For example, Mesoamerica is seen as the New World thus associated with "Lost World" and connect in the dinosaur theme. The most well-known God of these civilizations (at least in modern media) would be Quetzalcoatl the Winged Serpent. There is also a "dinosaur" named after this God, the Quetzalcoatlus (it is actually a pterosaur, but a lot of media tend to lump it into dino).
Aztec and the like are cultures located in rainforests, and often seen as primal, in tune with nature.
Again, Lizardmen and dinosaurs aren't really known within their culture and more or less the product of modern pop culture.
Scalekind (Nagas, Lizardfolk etc) usually depicted as Mesoamericans due to popular pulp fiction in the 70s i think
If you want to recognise events in BG3, you should look at some video about the adventure path "Descent into Avernus" (and play BG1 and BG2) as the game is set more or less directly after that adventure path. Can't point you directly to a good video about that though, Forgotten Realms and 5E adventure paths doesn't interest me.
Probably best if I just play the game tbh. If only I had infinite amounts of time and energy.
Now that I've watched the whole video - the Sharruk were incredibly powerful, and one of the steps Pun-pun, the level 1 Kobold Paladin, has to take to become the most powerful entity in the mutliverse involves summoning one.
Love how he called the snake people lizardmen while I'm not to sure how different they are based on pathfinder 1E and D&D stories I heard the Lizardmen are more tribal and don't express emotion like most races do while the snake people are the classic long forgotten empire of a by gone era or something like that. Its like calling a halfling a human their the same race type but are still different.
Thanks for the clarification! That comparison really does put it into perspective. xD I don't recall exactly what I was thinking, but I was likely thinking of the Lizardmen from Warhammer Fantasy.
@TheLegitWeebs perhaps someday would you react to the kobold race? That would be cool.
@@TheLegitWeebs Honestly that’s what I think of when I hear lizardmen half the time as well mostly cause I’m a big total war warhammer fan but I think once you find out that lizardmen in D&D and pathfinder are called lizardfolk It kinda becomes easier to remember which is which at least that’s how it is for me anyway.
@@Sevensilversuns Will try my best to get to every bit of lore that I can!
@@theanimeking3295 The different names would certainly help. I feel like I'd probably get a much better grasp on their differences once I stream Pathfinder. Hearing about them is very different from seeing them in action after all.
22:08 That my friend is a froghemoth
