Pretty clever workaround for the dex cut! Sounds a bit like a modernized Battle Revolution game, with extra bells and whistles for connectivity.

I remember people thinking pokemon home would work like this! Those were the days..

Okay, hear me out: showdown almost exactly as is (stat modifying, nature modifying, any items you want, etc.) EXCEPT you only have access to Pokémon you have in your storage. You can change whatever stats about them you want for the simulation battle, but you can’t use any kind of Venasaur unless you have a Venasuar currently in your Pokémon storage. Encourages filling out that Pokédex as well as making competitive so much easier to get into

In today’s world as big as multiplayer and online interactions are, I don’t think any game can stand alone without some sort of a story mode, or a struggle to get better features. This Pokémon University idea is brilliant, and the battlegrounds concept is something competitive players dream about! I didn’t catch any part where you said those two should be one in the same thing, just about DLC’s to get new Pokémon. How do you think a game would be if you had Pokémon Home, but with a certain DLC it opens you up to a world of battling with minimal restrictions for Pokémon you can use?

Yes, putting aside the idea of a reboot, I think there could be a game like this for Pokemon Home. I don't know if a DLC for just Pokemon Home would work however, I figure it would take a bit more than that. But really, yes I think this Battlegrounds idea would work with Home just fine.

Just found this channel and started binging through these videos. I've had this idea since Dexit was announced. Having a Home+Stadium system would be such a simple idea to keep players happy. Considering the number of people paying for Home yearly I'm sure people would be happy to pay for this

I've been making this video's points for years. Another huge win for a battlegrounds game is that pokemon from the battlegrounds game and the main-line games need not share perfect 1-1 statistics. Many pokemon are not designed to be used by the player, let alone entered in competitive battles, and are instead designed for use by NPCs at various points in the games, either as signature pokemon, grunt filler, or even legendary creatures. The existence of a battle university style game would allow those roles to still be filled in the single player experiences, but also give those pokemon a second life for those who love them as earnest battle partners. The Mightyenna, and Audino of the world need no longer suffer indignantly on the side-lines.

Reminds me how Pokemon Stadium had reserves of every pokemon at specific levels, so you didn't need your own.
Now I'm thinking of drafting, like having a "booster pack" of pokemon, you pick one, then pass the pack to the player on your left. Packs have 7, you each get 6, and... oh, 6 pokemon are just discarded. Ok, well that's a bit gruesome, but you get the idea.

haha yeah I think there is room for a lot of different game modes! I think drafting like this would work and be received well... and maybe the ones left over are simply "boxed away" :P

An official take on Pokémon Showdown would be amazing, especially if it could get continued support, but it would most likely have to be lighter on the graphics side. I can't imagine a Battle Revolution styled game with over 1000+ pokémon, 3D models, and good animations being handled by a Switch without turning it into an oven.

Well, if the game requires an online connection, your system wouldn't actually need to store information for every Pokémon. All that would happen is, all the necessary models, battle animations, and other relevant data for the battle would just be temporarily streamed into your system, then discarded after the match ends.

I think that the perfect customization for this game would be something like fighting game pallettes, where the model doesn't change, but the colors and textures do, so you could change every single color in a Pokémon's pallette, and also give them metal, wool, scale or wood textures, just going off the top of my head.
It could clash a bit with shinies I guess, but they could have an exclusive shining aura and lustrous texture to reflect their rare nature while also having that cool pallette system, and this would be an in-universe app, so you wouldn't really need a justification for your mons being neon colored and growing feathers.
Just imagine being able to make your Pokémon have any color scheme you want, it would give each player's teams so much personality! Specially for a competitive MMO RPG with such a massive teambuilding potential as this Battleground app would have.
You could also have skins, clothes and extra sets of animations on top of that, but unlike those, the pallette system wouldn't be exclusive to any specific mon, while also having a giant amount of possible combinations.
Textures could also make for good unlockable content if you want to lock them behind paywalls or in-game currency grinds, as this is a AAA franchise afterall, and it wouldn't affect gameplay, so it would be fine, I guess.

To be fair that is what the return function of pokeballs are for. Even if they pop out immediately, being stopped mid action and being placed on time out for poor behavior or causing unnecessary strife is an incredibly useful feature and tool for the partnership between people and pokemon. It is also incredibly important to not treat pokemon as simple animals when they are magical creatures that are as smart as your average human bare minimum. So I would introduced the concept of certified or designated pokemon that are allowed in because they are recognized as being apart of your team and research force. As you are a professor that is one of the heads of research and works closely with other famous professors it would make sense that you would have a list of special pokemon that you have bonded with that would help you with your research and are your partners. So they are allowed in for research purposes and as aids when others are not. This could take the form of NPCs, tasks, or even changes in the overworld and news. My team as a professor would most likely be Umbreon, Scizor, Froslass, Serperior, Trevenent, and Aurorus with perhaps a Claydol, Sigilyph, Golurk, and Scolipede as extra members of my research team and aids. I have a lot of grass, ice, ghost, and ancient or forest pokemon as my partners so I am recognized as a researcher geared towards those specific areas. Researching the effects of ancient structures and devices on forested and cold areas while also locating, noting, and repairing such structures so that the world at large doesn't forget that humanity placed this structure here 5000 years ago for X reason. Lore wise something similar also applies to champions, elite four member, Frontier Brains, and other international organizations such as pokemon rangers and the international police.
There is no such thing as the perfect pokemon and the notion goes against the franchise's message. So I would either reflavor or get rid of that function. Otherwise it gives the impression that the pokemon world is endorsing Mewtwo style cloning experiments which is incredibly disturbing when paired with the unusual existence of Nurse Joy's family. You could flavor this as mirage pokemon constructed on digital templates as a means to better understand the processes and characteristics behind moves. Using such imitations would also drastically lower your rewards as there is no bond in using simulations and legendarys would most certainly see that. There is of course exceptions but I think that makes it far less disturbing. The pokemon you construct are simulations built on a digital template and manifested through technology and magic as mirage pokemon.

Something like the Battleground would be useful for balance. GF could gather data on each Pokemon's win/lose rates and buff or nerf them accordingly. We wouldn't need Smogon tiers to pretend our favorites are viable in battle anymore!
I don't think having all Pokemon be a one and done thing is a good idea though. You mentioned ways for players to get a Vulpix if they missed not-Kanto, but those players still wouldn't be able to use one on their adventures. What you're suggesting is somehow _worse_ than Dexit.
