I actually prefer low/mid Elo games over high Elo ones. They feel more like how the game was "meant" to be played, with large armies clashing and off-the-wall strategies, rather than the game being decided because one pro was able to micro their 3 militia better than the other.
Just play Arena, that's what I do. You still have that big army vs big army clashing without need for too much micro, and you can still do it by competitive standards.

I just want to echo that LEL is the most interesting thing on your channel for me. I don't really watch AOE2 stuff, I didn't grow up with it and was into other strategy games like Dune / C&C, but watching people with no idea of a meta figure out their own strategy in a strategy game is fascinating, especially when commentated by someone who DOES know the intricacies of the game.
When I was a young lad playing AoE1 campaigns, I was having trouble on the first Greek mission as I could not survive having multiple enemies (this was my first video game so there was a lot to learn). I definitely checked out books from the library to research ancient Greeks and also definitely tried killing their scouts before they could report back to the main camp 😂
Similar but unrelated: I convinced my elementary school to let me install Stronghold Crusader as a research aid because it had a historical campaign. Then they saw a town burning with all the people running and screaming lol. Did write a paper on all the battles in the campaign tho. 10/10 5th grade experience.
35:37 arrow loops/slits point horizontally to fire outward. murder holes are more vertically oriented in entry ways and curtain walls for firing DOWN on invading troops. murder holes are often installed in the entries of castles between two portcullises so units are stopped at the inner portcullis and are forced to endure things raining down on them from above (such as human/animal waste, hot oil, arrows, etc)
I love that these guys play the games the way they want to. They're enjoying the game at their own pace and build about the map however they see fit! Those are legends in my book.

Every time I watch these 200-400 ELO games i ask myself the same thing: How do you keep losing and losing and reach that ELO without getting frustrated and quitting the game?
TBF, once they hit their true rating, they win/lose just as much as anyone else -- around 50%. They might have had a lot of losses on the way down from 1000 where they first were placed, but so does everyone. IDK how many losses it takes to hit 200 ELO from 1000 though, it was probably a good bit

43:00 Town centers are the same. You can walk underneath them when they are done, but while they are under construction they are solid. So it makes sense from a coding standpoint to just use the same property for gates.

loving the yucatan spotlights. Used to play it against AI all the time once I got Conquerors dlc and felt like it mixed some of my favorite gameplay from different standard map types like arabia and black forest, but having warmer colors and turkeys(!).
I blame the AI for teaching us to fear the darkness. As soon as you poked the AI it would send EVERYTHING at you, so exploring was genuinely dangerous.
The story about the scout and his village was surprising. The narration of the game unfolded. This T90 guy is the type of person who have been pushing humankind forward for all these times. The ultimate frontier.

Those are arrow slits on the SIDE of the castle. A murder hole is at the top of the castle or wall. The crenellations would stick out a bit and there is a hole that liquids or rocks and arrows can be shot from.
1:04:37 It actually may not have been harder to misclick the gate. Blue was trying to click the left tower of the gate, but because it was blocked by the large trees he clicked the wall instead trying to avoid it.
low elo is by far the most entertaining to watch. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll face palm so hard you break your forehead. Much better than watching some nerds micro 3 archers 1 monk and a mango.
Yucatán has been my favorite lately but I had a match the other day that spawned me next to my opponent but all my recourses on the other side of him and it also gave me no wood. Was super weird. Literally all the wood on my side of the map was gone. I tried to do a quick rush to take some of the recourses but it was hopeless lol
And another thing. I always put archers inside castles and towers. Its very effective when you play aginst the AI. Your archers are protected and a Castle with 10-12 archers in it one shot mots units. Towers also benefits greatly when packed with archers. 😎

Is there a way to have a game where the low elo plays set up a couple high elo plays who then take over the game?? That would be interesting to watch.

To me it makes perfect sense. You shoot fire arrows against ships to set them on fire. Very logic. An arrow kills a human just as much with or without fire. But to ships, fire arrows are devastating. So conclusion: Heated shots are just the right neme for its purpose. Problem is that many people avoid water maps couse they are more complicated than land maps. So instead of calling heated shots a noob bait explain why its logic and encourage people to play more water maps. 😎

Oh man, back when I was still in grade school, I played the William Wallace campaign, I think it was the 4th one, the one that require you to destroy a watch tower. Back then, I barely understand any English at all, so even the voice, "Don't forget, keep exploring the map!" was playing on repeat scared me shitless. I muster everything I can before even attempting to do anything. I think I bring around 50+ troops to attack the tower. Nevermind exploring the map lol, I was even scared by the voice. I've played many campaign on repeat, but never the William Wallace one...still gives me the creeps to this day, I guess it was because I was assaulted by the looping voice for a long time..mind you, I didn't finish that scenario in one sitting haha, took me days.
Some Low Elo notes here: 1) The scout running around in the base for a while instead of going out to scout wasn't just that he was scared, but because the player was worried the red scout who got in was from a forward stable he hadn't seen. 2) The "houses at the edge of the map" strategy is based on pretending that your city in the game is just the edge of a much larger city off-map (Notice how there was a gate protecting those houses as well, so they're not unprotected.) And by having such a large city that you're just a small edge of it, how could you possibly lose?
I think I already knew as a child that fire arrows deal less damage to humans - so I never thought it would affect anything in that regards. But I did get horse armor for my cav archers untill you pointed that mistake out in one vid...
I love how instead of placing 3 wall tiles to the edge of the map, red walls all the way alongside the edge. Also the chance to hit 3 out of 3 treb shots against a unit is 0.3375%

I love low ELO games! As a new player, I'm trying to get my friends and family involved, but it looks like I will have to play randoms instead! Long-time watcher of the game, only recently have the capability to play. Top players wow me with their skill but after a while things get stale (from my perspective, perhaps inexperience?).
Making archers as Franks is one thing, but when you're playing against a civ that may have the best archers, and your civ has some of the best cavalry, it's just ridiculous on multiple levels.
You mentioned confusing techs and for me I play Byzantine’s and want to go fire ships but I can’t figure out how to upgrade them. I just keep checking back at the dock until it lets me but I guess there is a tech you need first but it doesn’t say which one it is.

Woooow, sub 300 ELO starts with two houses, goes on food, and lures boar, and blocks the boar with sheep (ok, the latter might have been by accident), building lumber camp right next to the trees and before building a mining camp, reasonably low TC idle time, housewalling.... I'm impressed! So people sub 300 ELO now have at least some idea about how to play the early game at least, and might even have some build orders they try to follow.
I Think i said this before, I don't remember what video. I can't help but wonder if New players research Coinage based off the Tech from Age Of Empires. When you researched Coinage in AoE1 it was at the Market and It did increase Mining speed and carry limit and Increased the Value of Gold Deposits.
Why are professionals bored? The story arc for the scout cavalry is way more compelling than KotD. I literally stopped what I was doing at work because I could not miss what was going to happen to him.

Murder holes were trapdoors in the floor you would open up when people were beneath you in castles to shoot arrows or drop stuff on them.

you need war galley it says in the tech tree that requirements are unlocking war galley first

Hello viewers. I just started watching T90 recently and loving it immensely! I planned to buy AOE2 DE for PC, and wanted advice whether to buy on steam or from microsoft website.
I dont play much games at all, so I dont want to go for the game pass.
Just go with Steam.
As riz said, Steam. It's much easier to be invited by friends into lobbies. Often MS version bugs out and you don't show up for long periods of time.
@@iamUglie I see! I also heard that for ms version you have to pay extra aside from buying the game if I want to play multiplayer.

Woooow, sub 300 ELO starts with two houses, goes on food, and lures boar, and blocks the boar with sheep (ok, the latter might have been by accident), building lumber camp right next to the trees and before building a mining camp, reasonably low TC idle time, housewalling.... I'm impressed! So people sub 300 ELO now have at least some idea about how to play the early game at least, and might even have some build orders they try to follow.

I Think i said this before, I don't remember what video. I can't help but wonder if New players research Coinage based off the Tech from Age Of Empires. When you researched Coinage in AoE1 it was at the Market and It did increase Mining speed and carry limit and Increased the Value of Gold Deposits.
Why are professionals bored? The story arc for the scout cavalry is way more compelling than KotD. I literally stopped what I was doing at work because I could not miss what was going to happen to him.
