Excellent job as always Kyle. No need to go over the top when we know the re sell value. Got it running and operating like it’s supposed to. Funny story… I I had one from last year that I got running and sat until last week. Just finishing it up. Same exact mower except 6 speed. Thanks for the upload 😎😎

I leave my three LT 2000 and clones ugly on purpose. I cut the sides of the mower deck to reduce grass load by moving it faster and use conveyor belting flaps to deflect the clippings on both sides of the deck. I'm in the Southeast so I don't need hoods. I use jump packs (which I have anyway as a mechanic) to start my mowers without spending on batteries. I copy the mud mower guys and run ATV tires in back and solid foam tires up front. I get many years from the Intek singles and when one finally shucks a rod etc just install a new engine. I installed cheap steering wheel spinner knobs for the same convenience as on my trucks. I run Kenda Scorpion K290 ATV Tire - 22X11-8 on the rears for much better traction than the stock tires.

Another great rehab. The plastic pulley guards are not needed on the 42” decks by craftsman in that year you can just remove them the blade brakes are adequate to keep the belt on. I am glad you showed the front roller set up. I had a deck with the mounting brackets and no roller. I was so confused as to what they were for.

Impressive that you even show the instances when you’re stumped. We all get stumped from time to time. Great video.

Thanks for noticing that! I don’t mind showing the times when the project is difficult. Most UA-camrs leave those parts out of the video and viewers get the impression that everything just works out perfectly for them. Hopefully my videos demonstrate how it goes for most of us when we work on a project- sometimes we get stumped, sometimes we struggle, and sometimes it doesn’t go well at all!

Hey, Kyle! Every time I see you use your pressure washer I think you need to get a water line out to your shed with a drainback like they use on farms for filling stock tanks in the Winter.
Also, I’ve only ever used an electric pressure washer since I only use it sporadically. I save the gas ones for repairs and flipping. A lot quieter! 😉🔧👍

I have one of those machines that is about the same age and with the Kohler engine. They really get a bad rap with the Craftsman (Crapsman) label on it that they usually don’t deserve. If they are taken care of and stored inside, they can give you decades of good service and the parts are cheap and easy to get when they do break. With the smoke, I’d say the Kohler was abused, neglected, or both; probably never saw regular oil changes every season or two and maybe even run dangerously low on oil at some point. It difficult to tell through the audio of a video, but it sounds a little loose and rattling as it runs. Who knows, it might run like that for years? I have never had any luck with keeping air in those tires once they get some age on them short of just installing tubes in them. Even still, I usually have to top them off with air at the beginning of each mowing season. They seem to lose some air when the temperatures change with the seasons. I’d say this machine is probably a $100.00(ish) beater. Get the deck freed up, reinstall it, and list it! The engine is probably not worth removing for another project, just move that unit on down the line. For $100-150 bucks, if someone can get a season or two of mowing out of it, what more can they expect?

Hey Kyle, have you ever used a rubberized undercoating for the mowing decks? I've heard it can be done and will prevent from further rust developing and will quiet down the deck a little bit. Is this true?

To bad a person couldn't get a "deal" with a tire shop and buy bulk tires for these riding mowers. I'm guessing who ever buys this one will have to buy new tires shortly after they purchase it. That one back tire is toast...lol. I have roten tires on my main mower and to replace all 4 I'm looking at a couple hundred bucks. tubes are definitely my friend on my machines and keeping any spare tires out of the sun helps as well. If you have spares on machines, block up those mowers and get the weight off those flat tires to protect the side walls from cracking so bad. Nice freshen up on this one, it seems to run pretty good. Cheers.
