I put them bolt on crossbar and ball joints on a nice mower i was saleing dtl 3000..And i had a daily dtl 3000 well when i cut grass..Anyways i rode both and the one i did that to like it had power steering..Huge diff..I seen a old video of poor mans power steering.2 washer and a thrust bearing in between..Goes right where you bolt spindle on..Kid said he paid 5 bucks for them..Sorry for the rant 2 am in Bama ..Need me sand blaster machine. .Nice..Enjoyed..ty
great video. if i were you i'd keep it. fun to watch you work on it. i'd like to see your set up for the outside sandblasting sometlme. check the rubber boot that goes over the shifter down to the transmission. a new one could help keep water out. thanks.
The outside blaster set up is a still a work in progress. Works great sometimes, and not at all the rest of the time lol! Good idea about the shifter boot! I was actually wondering if a late model auto cv axle boot would fit the bill!
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!! Love me some Wheel Horse so it's all good! With that said! Regarding the front end rebuild. Why didn't you just pull the pivot bolt and drop the whole front end to replace it all ez-pz? Once into mixing and matching parts why not just buy a matching E-Clip to match the other pivot? No wonder you're out of grease! Half of it's on the outside! Maybe you should just use that excess on the rack n' pinion steering which looks a little in need of lube. Wire brush on the rear end before pulling the plugs and even a blowing off with the air gun after brushing and wiping it down just makes sense to keep the dirt out of the plug holes. Shoulda blowed out all that crap and per washed the unit first thing fur anything. Just sayin' I know that's how the mount on the fuel tank came from new and mines exactly the same but dang it looks like someone just decided to use a coat hanger to hold it on! Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm a big believer in the utility of coat hangers. Watching the Battery box clean out and replace just think maybe some locking nuts nylon or otherwise would keep the battery hold down in place a little longer. Did I hear you forcing fuel through the system with an air chuck? Hard on where it seals at every point. Can be needed but not if absolutely necessary otherwise just let the fuel flow with gravity and pump pulling it's prime front the tank. Charging the tank with air like that can force all kinds of crap past the tank, filter, seat, float into the jet plugging either the Jet or needle making for more effort than needed to get running Enjoyed it a great deal and have a hat just like that. Best lee
There’s a couple of things I’d do differently. That engine oil looked so bad I probably would have run diesel in it first, then oil to flush, then final oil. There’s gotta be more sludge in the bottom. Also, I would always pressure wash the entire machine before starting, just to get the majority of the dirt and grease off so it’s nicer to work on, plus you can see more of the details and issues ahead of time. In this case the fuel tank area and battery tray would have already been clean.
My point exactly so glad to know I'm not the only nut that thinks that way! Job one is blow the crap off before it comes into the shop which judging from the spic and span floor & benches in the "Laid Off Garage" I'm sure there's a "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" sign hanging in there somewhere.
Really digging the channel and content. I was a huge wheelhorse fan. Me,my dad, and my granddad had them. Now just remember my experience was from the late 80s. My local dealer was always a pain in the ass back then. I think mine was a 314. It had transmission issues. Went to my dealer and i wanted a service manual, i fixed it without a manual. They wouldn't sell me one because they wanted to repair it. He was a real dick. After that we all bought 3 new john deeres and never went back. I really like wheelhorse, but we never went back to that dealer. They are still in business selling toros but ill stick to my john deere. Hope to see some more wheelhorse vids on your channel, keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the kind words! I got bit by the wheel horse bug a couple years ago and haven’t looked back! I’m extremely grateful for guys with a passion for this hobby because almost every repair/service/parts diagram can be found online free of charge nowadays !
Typical short sighted, narrow minded dealer. Helping out locals in any way benefits everyone. If he’d sold you the manual he would have had a parts customer and referrer for life! Some people just don’t see the big picture.
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Who needs a dealer when you can turn a wrench or screwdriver yourself and most manuals are available online. As for JD it's clear that they are selling "Dealer repair only" equipment and their off shore sourced crap is costing more to fix than the profit you can get off the crop so what's the point. Made in the USA is still running 40yrs later and looks good doing it and will keep doing when all this Green junk is not even fit for parts cause 1year after it's made you can't get the computer board that runs the damn thing. I'm moving back into analogue in every aspect of my life just in case the next "Carrington Event" is within my lifetime and even if it ain't least my kids can still cut their grass with Grandpa's ride 'em tractor!! Just sayin'
Hey man I'm new to your channel keep up the great work and I gotta chevy man it was meant to be I also have a 1991 Chevy but mine is the k1500 it's my favorite truck
Levi, I have some questions for you. Are those Carhartt overalls? What model or number? Was that the chrome color metallic paint or aluminum? The number would help. I really like it! I’d probably forget about staying purist restoration and paint the whole tractor like that! You’re doing a great job on that tractor!🚜 👍
The first thing I would have done is put a new spindle on the right hand side if it turned out square with the tie rod end. And forgot about the tie rods. Just grease them and leave them alone.
LOG...please just relax...your channel is great!!! I know being the best UA-camr is important to you. But your natural, down home, cold snack personality is the reason I keep coming back...please don't change anything...!!! How about some stickers??? Like a cold snack riding a wheel horse??? Just saying!!!
Just a thought, Levi-after blasting the paint off items,I like to use primer before painting... I like to spray old tires with trans fluid to limber them up...
Im watching all of your shows very interesting keep the green acres coming 😊😊
Thank you! Will do!
Man I love these old wheel horse beauties! Great channel, glad I found you sir!
Glad to help. Good to see another piece of history saved and being used. Thanks for the shout out and sharing.
All ways nice to have a back up one !
I like your dry sense of humor....'without cussing too much' just the kind of thing I would think
Just.
Found your channel.
Awesome job keep them coming....

I really need to look into the thrust bearing upgrade. I've had quite a few people tell me about it. Thanks for watching!
Looks great just like it is

Water in trans is an issue for most machines that spend any time outside so a good idea re:boot!!
Wheels look good I would have done the same thing your doing
nice! im working on another 100. but a 100f, a jacobsen chief! probably same era, built like a tank, and made to last forever
This thing is purring like a kitten :) a litlle paint job and this tractor is good for many years to come!

While you're at it, add Torrington radial thrust bearings on the spindle bottom and enjoy "power steering".
I'm gonna have to look into that!
I have one just like this, with a deck. It runs and is on my to do list. Nic e job sir.
This was my first of this series of tractors. I’ve worked mostly on the 300/400/500s. Really liking it so far !
I also use zip ties when I don’t have claps. They work great and I have seen some machines come with them from the factory.
There’s a couple of things I’d do differently.

Might be Interested in Purchasing it depending on where you're located
I appreciate the interest but the tractor is sold and off to a new owner. It's since had a new paint job and mower deck and is being worked daily!
@@LaidOffGarage Ask him for a video of the finished product at work!
That would be great to see!

You’re doing a great job on that tractor!🚜 👍
U could technically replace just the spindles
OK then you did good job now we can drink a beer 🍺
To get to focus out your hand or something behind it
Aren’t you afraid you got glass beads in the tie rod ball joints ?
Would it cost anything to power wash that before getting started?
DIdn't want to wash off the patina! Thanks for the comment!
@@LaidOffGarage It's like deodorant !
Just don't stand so close to the applicator and it ain't that bad!
2 stroke mix or Coors??? Love your videos!
Can anyone explain to me why people pump grease into spindles that have sealed bearings?
Where moisture can corrode will be stopped if displaced by grease. Not just to lube shaft or bearings.
The first thing I would have done is put a new spindle on the right hand side if it turned out square with the tie rod end. And forgot about the tie rods. Just grease them and leave them alone.
I didn't have just a spindle. That's why it got an entire front end.
Lots of water maybe everything is ok in there

Wheel hoarse was a great tractor 🚜 but now it's all John deer 🦌 and Kubota.

I love my b80
i think to keep the paint original awsom vids
I like a nice paint job, but i just can’t bring myself to erase the well earned patina !

Not a big patina fan-the old warrior needs a fresh coat of paint!
Are you kidding where I'm at if you needed or wanted it the engine alone would be well worth 2 bills or more?
