  • In order to keep the tractor running at optimum performance, preventative maintenance will need to be conducted. My tractor like most has a service interval counter to notify if these events. Instead of three separate videos I put the 8,20 and 50 hours services into one video. The 200 Hour Service for the valve lash, will be done in a separate video as a separate task. Note the Deck adjustment and blade sharpening also branch into separate videos as well.

I bought my first riding lawn mower. It was used, so I didn’t know what kind of maintenance was done to it. It has 77 hours on it, and is the exact same model as the one in the video. You did a great job on this video. Straight to the point and precisely what I needed to know. Thanks for all the pointers on the grease gun.

Just wanted to say thank you brother. I have my first John deer and I wanted to make sure I knew what the hell I was doing before I started the maintenance process. You did a great job teaching me everything I needed to know!!

    Great video, Jordan!
I'm about to do my 50 hr on my S170 and I'm going to convert the oil change abomination back to the way Briggs and Stratton intended ... there's even a JD part # for the kit. I"ll start just as soon as I get my hands recalibrated ...

I had to do it once and document it in the video as OEM, but I think its a crap idea and Ill be swapping it out on the next oil change.

You can keep the big filter and add the drain tube at a minimum.

Don’t forget to take your spindle apart to remove black seal before greasing it 😊

I'm disappointed in JD for that EZ filter at almost $80. That is nuts !!. Convert it back to a regular oil filter at about $10.00 for a generic. Strictly a money masker for JD. Also, it does not allow for all of the oil to be changed. Why they came out with this is a mystery to me if not for extra money. Really J-D.

The E150 does NOT have grease fittings for the rear tires. You forgot to tell us how to make the Service Flashing light go away. After performing all service, my tractor would still not start up. How do you RESET the E150 service notification?

    Excellent video.
I see no reason to change the spark plugs and fuel filter anywhere close to the intervals specified by JD - other than to improve the profits for JD. The spark plugs should be fine for many hundreds of hours, if not thousands - the same for the fuel filter with reasonable refueling care. Unless your mowing jobs are very dusty - the air filter should not need changing until a gentle blowing out is not sufficient.
After the first two or three oil changes, I see no reason for the frequent changes specified there either.

I agree that the maintenance intervals and parts purchased may be tied to profit. Especially service for those who have work performed for them.

Blade spindles have sealed bearing so grease doesn't help them. There is a UA-cam video on removing one seal from the bearing.

The grease is to keep the cavity filled to help keep spindle and housing cool, moisture, and dirt out if it seeps past the seals. Plus, these residential riding mowers have a sleeve over the shaft that goes through the spindle housing. The grease also helps keep the cast aluminum housing and shaft from wearing out too fast. So, the grease was never meant for the bearings since they are sealed, as you stated.
