Your videos are great for those that don’t take the time to read through the owners manual. ATTENTION: Whenever you buy a new John Deere READ the owners manual before using the piece of equipment!!
I've done this a few times now. I always find a UA-cam video to walk me through it. This one was so perfectly clear on each step. Thanks! I've always punted on the fuel filter in the past. Got it this time.
G’Day from Australia, After 26 years in the Irrigation industry,iv had a change in careers and now working for the local John Deere dealership. Iv only been there for 3 months and iv got a lot to learn.Iv gotta say your video clips regarding the John Deere products have been a great way to learn about the different products that are available. Great work, keep it op
This is great! Being that we are still quarantined, my 12 year old is going to get a lesson in mower maintenance this weekend. I've never done this on my own, but this video explains everything clearly. Thank you!
I already bought the kit before I found this video. I'll be sure to order from you in the future. Thanks for the video. I ended up changing everything else then the oil, so I didn't have to work around a hot motor for most of the job.
Thank you and on the greasing you will need to grease the spindles and the front axle will usually have 3 grease points on it as well. Thanks for watching!
It's also a great idea, the same with cars/trucks, is to put a little oil to new filter to help your engine get as much oil on startup as possible. I learned that from my good friend, Paul Short. I have been doing this with cars for a long time, when possible. When they are on sideways, its hard to get much oil in them, but every little bit helps. You should slso account for the oil that goes in your filter. My x300 takes 1.8 quarts. That's almost 2 quarts. Right at 57.5 oz.
Thanks for this. Can you do a video showing how to do the other service interval steps (eg. lubricating various parts and where they're located)? Do you ship to Michigan?
I've always started the motor after adding the oil with the new filter and then gave it a good 5-10 minutes for the oil to level off, take another reading, then adjust oil level.
I don't think this is a bad idea. I don't do it this way since these filters go on sideways. Do you have trouble with them leaking a little when you put them on?
@@WesternEquipment I've never had an issue with leaks. I just hand tighten nice and snug and it's good to go. The one I'm working on right now is a L130, so it also has a side mounted filter.
Got one the same for free 2 days now don't run they said looking to get this kit then go from there. The deck pully that moves what's the name of that pulley? And how do you remove it? It broke off leaving a bolt I see no where to pull it.. hope you can give me a advice thanks.
About checking the oil, it would be helpful to some to explain: "Install dipstick in tube but do not tighten. Allow dipstick threads to rest on top of tube and rotate cap counterclockwise until it “clicks” or drops into place."
Great video! Question: What if someone left their gas cap off and didn’t realize it, and mowed and grass got in the tank? Should they drain the tank and just put a new fuel filter on? Asking for a friend (actually, it’s me, lol)😂
Do you have a maintenance kit (minus the spark plugs and fuel filter). It's a waste of consumer's money to replace the spark plugs and fuel filter as often. Thanks for the video.
I had fuel squirting out the line everywhere non stop when removing the fuel filter. Why didnt that happen to you when yoh removed the filter? Also is it bad if fuel got all over the deck and spindles? It seems to have dried up but dont know if thats going to cause problems. Thanks!
@@WesternEquipment I was servicing an x390. I didn't pinch the line because I didn't see you do that in the video, then fuel was coming out non stop as soon as I removed the fuel filter. Just curious why that didn't happen to you.
@@WesternEquipment are you saying fuel on the spindles will cause problems? Just confirming because this comment seems to contradict your other reply. ThanksA
I can understand changing oil and filter annually but I wouldn’t think time would matter on a spark plug and fuel filter. I would think they should be replaced on the amount of use, not time. Example- let’s say I change the spark plugs and for whatever reason the mower sits for a year and I don’t use the mower. It’s a total waste of money to replace the spark plugs just because they are a year old. It’s like replacing the bullets for your handgun just because they are years old. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi Brent We have a John Deere D100 My husband was in the hospital 8 months We he was able He went to start our riding mower It’s sluggish but started up then only would run very slow Then when he wanting the mower to go faster the mower just cuts outs Today we Changed the oil ,replaced filter , spark plug ,fuel filter made sure it had plenty of gas Still doing the same thing ?? Have you any idea why our mower isn’t getting the fuel needed to go faster and keep mower moving at a steady speed Any advice would be great Called machine and they wanted to rebuild Everything and charge us 800 dollars ??ooch Thank you Brenda
sounds like it could be the small fuel pump on the side of the engine or it could just be that the carburetor needs to be cleaned. I would check those things out and then go from there. I hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
a good method is when u drain the oil u put a little of fresh oil just to clean the motor and remove the old oil completely so u are certain then the engine is clean and the oil pan then after u finish the job with the 2 pint
Hello, I like and appreciate your videos.👍 Do you have a kit like this for my 2022 John Deere S120, with 42” Deck? And sell the conversation kit to change from new the 5 minute oil change system, to the standard Oil change with filter. Also 2 new blades, and belt. Let me know if you have them, cost, and shipping? Thanks, Wilbur Reeves, Florida 👍
Good video. Question looking at the s120. My old craftsman finally died. My question is your honest opinion how do you like this new 30 second oil change is it really worth upgrading to 120 vs 110. Thanks
I honestly think it is totally fine. It is more of a preference issue and how valuable your time is to you. If you think you would rather not spend the time on doing a traditional oil change then I would consider the S120 for sure. Thanks for watching!
I think this is mainly because of the exposure to the oil drain on the tractor style mowers. You see these drain tubes on the zero turn mowers and larger X700's because the oil drain is not as easily accessible.
Very good video. A couple of comments ... the X380 takes 2.1 quarts of oil, but only 2 quarts are included in the kit. Sounds like I have to buy an extra quart of oil before starting my maintenance. Second, grease of spindles, wheel bearings, etc. is not covered. How often should it be done and can you post a video? Thanks.
I am very confident that by using the 2 quarts that come with you kit your dipstick reading will be sufficient. Sometimes engineers get a bit too technical on the spec sheet. as far as greasing goes we will work on getting a video pushed out for that but in the meantime the operator manual suggests lubricating your mower spindles and axle grease points every 50 hours.
I have John deere d105, think that's it. Lol when service light flashes is that telling me that the hourly time has come to do this type of service? New owner, 497 hours showing bought it used last year.
Yes, when the service light flashes it is indicating that it is ready for one or more of the recommended services such as a full service (Oil change, air filters, spark plugs, etc,) or one of the other like greasing spindles and front axle. My advice would be to service everything when you are done this season and then follow the hourly guidelines after that. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
don;t buy kits until you really need all the parts, wasting your money. Sparts plugs should easily last 500 hours (your car would change after maybe 4,000 hours) and fuel filter should easily go 3 seasons in average use. Just buy oil on sale at auto store, (nothing special in JD oil) and a filter, buy air filter every 2 -3 three years, blow out filter every season, and clean thin pre filter sponge material every season. don;t forget to grease fittings on better mowers seasonally and put a dab of grease on steering pinion gear couple times per season.
why take shop rags if you aint gonna use them? didnt wipe oil off, used dirty oil on new oil filter seal,,still got oil on yer hand, hope you got some on yer ear swatting bugs. not impressed enough to order from this place, no hat needed.
Thank you for having such a clear, concise video to teach us how to do this ourselves!
Thank you and I'm glad I could help. Thanks for watching!

What is the difference between an x380 and x390? Is the LG265 the correct kit for the X390?
I like to use a large size ziplock bag around the oil filter is coming off it will catch any oil that come out when taking off the filter
Do you have a maintenance kit (minus the spark plugs and fuel filter). It's a waste of consumer's money to replace the spark plugs and fuel filter as often. Thanks for the video.
Unfortunately there is not a kit like that but you can order the other parts by themselves.

Hmmm, what mower were you servicing? As far as the fuel on the deck goes, this is not an issue because it evaporates so quickly.
Yes, it will. Thinking about swapping it out?
@@WesternEquipment I was servicing an x390. I didn't pinch the line because I didn't see you do that in the video, then fuel was coming out non stop as soon as I removed the fuel filter. Just curious why that didn't happen to you.

Do you have a video on the grass catcher box hook? I have a problem with my x166r. The box slides open. How to solve this problem?
I don’t have a video on that unfortunately. I will see if I can find anything on this.
How often should the spark plugs and fuel filter be changed on a 2023 x590 series mower?
Every 100 hours or annually which is also what is suggested for your air filter and oil change.
I can understand changing oil and filter annually but I wouldn’t think time would matter on a spark plug and fuel filter. I would think they should be replaced on the amount of use, not time. Brent, what year did John Deere start putting green mower decks on the x500 series?
2023 models is when it started so we started seeing some of the green decks in the end of 2022.
I'm guessing its a universal kit with the 100 series i know everytime I get one for my d110 I get 2 spark plugs
No, there are different kits being as there are different engines and air filters with some models. Thanks for watching!

does this kit work on the S140
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips and informative video! Cheers!
Thank you and cheers to you too!
With both spark plugs out I'd turn the engine over to fill that oil filter for 7 to 10 seconds, I put oil in filter also half full
Sounds like a good idea.

Yes that is what's recommended and I follow that same rule of thumb. Thanks for watching!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if you are meaning the filter wrench for a filter that comes in a kit or one that is on the mower? can you specify? Thanks!

This is a great example of why buying used is so risky.
