      People actually do pull Casita with small cars. I don’t think the Four cylinder car would work very well. The Casita base price has gone way up because of fiberglass costs. But, still worth it in my opinion. Great upgrade for me from tent camping. I like little and simply!! Thanks for Video .

    Yep, this was a good run-down of the Scamp 13’.
    We owned a ‘79 Scamp 13’ for three years, 2011 -2014.
    No A/C, much smaller roof vent, louvered crank out windows, furnace, and ‘fridge.
    The door was the main problem area for us. The furnace was pretty ineffective.
    In 2012 we had a massive intense hail storm which beat the hell out of our house walls, roof, and windows, and pounded our truck, breaking out the windshield. The Scamp, parked in the front driveway, had zero damage except for one window pane broken.
    So, yeah, some issues, but I would gladly buy another one.
    Good Vibrations

    Nice job. Pros and cons were described well. Your objectivity is well received. I didn’t know the part about Scamps being so customizable at the factory. I have a new Casita spirit deluxe, and while they offer 4 or 5 different layouts, each one has its pros and cons. My layout improves as I remove some of the “comfort” features. The big dining table and the seat back cushions are now in my garage! Thanks for your unique perspective.

    • @ladyandthescamp
      @ladyandthescamp  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I like those Casitas. They seem a step above the Scamps. I think, if you have enough money, you could really customize a Scamp really specifically to your needs. We're probably going to hack some more stuff before it's all over. :) Thanks for watching.

    Another great video. Yes, campers as almost everything in life are a tradeoff of size, convenience and priorities. Sorry about the 1st year issues, however that is true. After the initial break in period all things mechanical/electrical will function as designed for years until a failure occurs. We are looking forward to fall camping before winterizing!

    My husband and I have been following you since Day 1. We also picked up our 2021 13 footer/no bath in May (former tenters as well) so we have been enjoying your adventures. Totally agree with all pros and cons…one more con..how bout those shades for “privacy”. Lol. We definitely have had a few “quality control” issues and while they have been quick to rectify I think it’s definitely a quality control issue because of so many people wanting them. We look forward to watching more adventures and are wishing you quite a few more years of being able to trap your kids in with you. It goes by before you know it.

    We have a 1976 Boler - pretty much the same as a scamp. We bought ours in 2020. This year the we could sell it for more than double what we paid. We are having a blast with ours as well. We also like limited storage, less is definitely more. We are a family of three so we do have the extra bunk to place things which does help. Figuring out exactly what we need is an ongoing process but we are getting there.

    The top hinge of our porta-potty door tore off. Initially I was going to ask Scamp for a new door. I realized I could easily fix it by the old toothpick trick. I used pieces of wood toothpicks to stuff the holes and re-screwed in the teeny screws. Works great. Eventually we will probably replace the doors with solid wood. We already replaced the table, it was too small. Love our 2020 Scamp. We have traveled from CA to Miami and back, even survived the Texas poler freeze with below zero temps, and no electricity. We were stuck for 8 days, But we made it, and now have a story to tell.

    • @ladyandthescamp
      @ladyandthescamp  2 роки тому +2

      I think we will replace the doors, too, as they keep falling off. Scamp should probably find a better way to increase longevity, but in the meantime, we keep fixing stuff! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for sharing. I love the cons list. It's honest and real. I bet kiddos love it (and I bet mine would love it too). Though, from one adult to another, that door man! lol. Still, it looks like a wonderful little trailer. I love my tent, low maintenance, easy to setup, very light weight. But! I'm not gonna lie ... if it rains? I'm thinking ... "would it not be nice to be in a trailer instead?" (for that reason, we likely would crawl back into the van). Another con for the tent ... the drying ... ah! The wait for it to dry ... for everything to dry ... there are times when I think to myself, "hurry UP!" LOL.

    • @ladyandthescamp
      @ladyandthescamp  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, there are pros and cons to tent camping, too. I like both. But with kids, a trailer is so much less work when you get there and when you leave. Also, less sand in sleeping bags. :)

      Long time tent camper here.
      The last time we tent camped, there came a several day torrential downpour.
      The load-out to go home was a muddy mess. We threw the tent, and everything in it, into a nearby dumpster rather than trash out the interior of our Bronco.
      Within a month, we found a used ‘79 Scamp, from a friend of ours in the neighborhood.
      We have a new Casita on order, delivery date sometime next year.
      Happy Camping

    Informative with fun production! Kudos!
    Love these "not a sales pitch" honest, real-world, pros & cons videos. Great summary. Useful. Agree with all your points and heard some new ones.
    I too thought Scamps were expensive, - well they are - but not compared to other hand-built small manufacturers, which tend to have better longevity and resale. Compared to those, Scamp is in the low end (sadly, all are priced too high).
    Looking at the mass produced trailers, I have been horrified by the catastrophic problems from wheel bearings and frames breaking to the inevitable water leak cancer ... besides the no resale.
    However, a 2 year wait for any of these low production quality (relative) campers is nuts - I don't care how good they are. I'm finding an alternative.

    Thank you for sharing. The Scamp quality issues are unacceptable. It's definitely a poorly manufactured camper with all the quality issues, especially for the price. WOW. I agree, I would be extremely disappointed. Scamp should offer you a new scamp without issue. I watched your video when you first purchased this camper and you were so excited. I was happy for you. I was in the market for one myself. However, I decided to purchase a used 2017 Coachmen Clipper Pop Up camper LS and don't regret a thing. My 2010 13 with bath was purchased pre-covid and I paid top dollar then. I could sell it today for at least 2k more so this is a trailer that really IS an investment. I travel solo so have plenty of space, more than needed. The cons you mentioned haven't been an issue for me although I have had a door fall off. The cabinet doors are lightweight so it's to be expected (even in most other trailers) but I found it fairly easy to repair even on the road. I keep wood glue, spot ties and duct tape in my tool bag and can fix most anything with those!😉Overall, this is the best little trailer and I can't imagine selling it. Here in California the registration is cheap at about $50 for 3 year tag. I insured for under $60 per year and have spent under $150 in replacement parts which I was able to do myself. I'm a senior female so easy hitching is a plus. Great video!

    • @ladyandthescamp
      @ladyandthescamp  2 роки тому

      I don’t think you could fit it, no, not without modifications. But, you’d get everything wet, as the walls are cloth. Nothing is waterproof inside, so you’d have to waterproof it. You might just get the 13 with the bathroom if you want a shower. It would be fine for just two people. Also, if I could do it again, no, I would not get air con. We didn’t get to choose, so we took it, but I could do without. We haven’t gone in really hot non-shaded places yet, though, so maybe I’d change my mind? Depends on where you will be camping, geographically.

    Airstream and Scamp have excellent resale values. Airstreams are super expensive which makes the Scamp more attractive for first time buyers. I never understand why people buy 25-30 ft trailers for their first purchase which have bad resale value if they decide to sell it.

    Just bought one for a reasonable price of $500.00 but its got its problems , it was repainted and peeling but nothing I can't fix however the roof is sinking in Texas hot sun due to rooftop AC weight , again I think I can fix that too . All in all I fell I got a good bargain on a super light weight camper.

    Interesting video. Pre-Covid Scamps were very affordable and great value, now it seems it's their resale that will make them better value than others. Still want one, even though I have nothing to tow it with and nowhere to keep it.

    Just for other people: I'm 6'1 and have no issue standing up as long as I'm not under the AC and I fit in the bed great. That said, there isn't much room over my head so I'm guessing 6'1 is it. Also I imagine your husband hits his head getting out. I do at least once a day. But so far, I'm loving our Scamp!

    I had a small utility trailer stolen, over ten years ago. Ever sense, I remove the wheels on my trailers when parking them. It takes seconds to remove the wheels with a battery powered impact wrench. You can't steel a trailer with no wheels.
