I hope someone is paying you for this. Super professionally done. Seen other vids this is the best. Very informative, thank you for taking so much time to make this
Thank you- youtube throws us a few pennies here & there, but mostly we like sharing info with the Scamp & RV community
This narration was superb. Well spoken with complete sentences. No pauses, no uh uh, no um,um, or misspoken words.
Thanks James- glad you enjoyed the video 😁
One of the most informative videos I've seen. Well done. Thank you.
Thanks Billiejo- glad it was helpful 👍
Very good voice and you moved right along. Thanks for telling both the positives & negatives.
Thanks! glad you enjoyed the scamp tour 👍
We have a 2020 and it has the USB ports, the frig, water heater, and heater are electronic ignition (just switch the units on and they do the rest). We did get the A/C and glad we did, the awning, and of course it's a layout 6. Happy Scamping
that sounds wonderful! Glad the new Scamps are well updated - maybe one day we will upgrade 😊 Thanks for watching Sandra, Happy Scamping!
How is the insulation on the 2020. Can you use it for winter camping?
@@jennifermagee9131 Same as the previous years. We've been out when it hit the high 20s and no issues.
Will check out the 6!
Pretty wife, pretty camper, pretty good life. That man got it made !! 👌👌👏👏👏
😂 It is good to be Patrick 👍
Lots of useful info. Nice job on the interior design updates. Thanks
Thanks Jeff! we are happy with the interior changes- no more fake wood here
Very good info, wish we lived closer, we'd totally rent it! Also, I'm so impressed with how you go from each segment without cutting video. No youtuber I follow can do that. You are very good at it, think about doing voice over work.
Thank you 😊 behind the scenes secret...I write out my talking points & tape them to the wall off camera so I remember what to say - otherwise there would be a lot more rambling 😂. check out RVshare- there may be a Scamp near you for rent, it really is a great way to experience the fun of camping without having to do all the maintenance & cleaning that goes with owning a camper
And I like that you painted the cabinets! Yellow isnt my go to, but you did a great job!!
the inside of the scamp can be dark so I really wanted to brighten it up 😊
Excellent video that provided the information I was looking for. Thank you
Glad to help- thanks for watching!
excellent video and GREAT information.
thanks julianna- we really enjoy our scamp 😁
Love the new look, great job!
Thanks Lucy, we are happy with the interior update- it feels really cozy in there
Great presentation 👏 and you and your husband have a good time camping!
thank you Shirley- the Scamp is so fun!
Highly informative. Check on insulated tanks and insulated blinds or even heavy plastic for windows, and get more lights- LED lighting? Haven't decided which 16ft Deluxe model to get, but definitely leaning towards this with the bath and gorgeous oak wood! The newer models have options for all the features I want. HAVE to have A/C, heat, a microwave, sleep for four, and an awning! I love that they keep their value, and I understand about the wait list, but believe, it's well worth the wait. Thanks for being honest, and keeping it Real! ❤️
The new scamps have some really nice features that solve some of the issues we have & if you can take the extra weight the deluxe is really nice looking 👍 I did add some LED lights on the ceiling and it really brightens it up inside. good luck with your search for a camper 😁
We have all the features you want and it’s worked well for us. I love our bright oak interior.
This was a very well done & informative video. Thanks for uploading.
thanks! glad you found it helpful 😁
Fantastic presentation. You must be a professsional speaker.
Very believable & honest. Thank you for being yourself.
Thanks for watching 👍
Just saw one of these. Coolest little trailer. Great for small family get away
they are cute little campers 😁
Loved this.
Thanks for reminding people this is an older unit, items you mentioned might be offered on newer models if not standard.
Very good presentation .....excellent
thanks for watching Douglas!
Love this video. Did you do anything to help maximize the storage space in the lower cupboard with the wheel well in it? For the storage under our Scamp bed I found 4 rectangular laundry bins that fit perfectly- 2 in front and 2 to the back. Just hook together the front and back bins so you can pull out the two at once to give easier access to the back bin.
thats a great tip...right now we just throw things down there & then struggle to pull things out from the back so we could use a better system for sure- thanks for the idea 👍
I am hoping to buy a trailer, for the first time, and your video really helped me. 🌸
That is exciting! there is a lot to learn (as we found out) but youtube has tons of information 👍
Thank you - super informative
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great information and cute update on the interior.
Thanks Barb! We are happy with how it turned out
Very informative and well done video.
Glad it was helpful!
We don’t have a travel rig but would like one. Was helpful to watch your video. Thank you 😊
hopefully this helped you to narrow down the search 👍
You really increased the cute vintage look when you painted the wood white with the yellow
thanks Chris- we wanted it to be a fun, cheerful space 😁
Very helpful. Thank you.
glad to help- I will be making an updated tour video this summer with some of our new modifications
New subscriber. I'm redoing a 1987 fiberglass camper from Canada. Fiberglass is definitely a winner.
Welcome to the channel! yes- fiberglass has so many benefits! after having a vintage 1975 camper that was leaking I knew my next camper had to be fiberglass 😁
Your paint job is holding up very well 😄
the cabinets are holding up really well! - The table may have to be refinished in the future, but overall the Scamp is doing well 👍
Good video. I was wondering why Scamp (and others) can’t figure out a way to hang a shower curtain, maybe a roundish shower rod, so you don’t have to dry the floor, toilet, sink and walls.
that is a good idea- maybe we can come up with a modification to add in the future
It would be like showering in a sleeping bag and the wet curtain would cling.
When you go looking for a four season trailer, be sure it's 0°/100° certified. Some manufacturers will call their trailers a four season unit, but if it isn't 0°/100° certified it isn't a true four season trailer. These trailers do tend to be a bit heavier, so that's something to keep in mind if you plan on keeping the Cherokee.
we will keep that in mind- thanks for the tip! It is a long term plan, but we would like to do some traveling in Canada & Alaska in the future and were thinking a good 4 season truck camper would be the best rig for that setting - but that is far off in the future
Nicely done video
thank you chris!
I love your little Scamp.......let me know if u decide to ever sell !!
I will keep that in mind if we upgrade to another rig in the future 👍
What brand and color of white paint did you use on the cabinets/doors/trim? Looks like a perfect match to the fiberglass.
that was some left over bathroom paint that I had from a project in the tiny house- I cant remember the exact color I picked (maybe just a normal white?), but it was designed to stand up to high humidity environments so I thought it would be good in an RV 👍
Great video!!!
Thanks Ric- we love our Scamp 😁
Very happy I found you! Three years ago we inherited the same year model, but the deluxe version with a microwave and air conditioner. We have the fan over the bed and we do use it more often than the air conditioner. Unfortunately my husband is on the taller side and frequently bumps his head on the air conditioner. Totally agree with you it would be nice to have outside access to the storage under the bed! I noticed you have lounge chair cushions on the side dinette chairs. We struggle with making these comfortable. Also, did you have a full cover over your shower drain in the bathroom? Thanks for your wonderful video. I subscribed and look forward to seeing your other videos. 😊
It is a fun little trailer, but it is a tricky setup for a taller person- not much headroom! I took a memory foam mattress and cut it to re-stuff the cushions. It is so much more comfortable now. The scamp foam is very firm- we never wanted to sit on it. (I did a video on that if you go back to last fall when we were doing some renovations in the tiny house & scamp). I made a plastic cover for the shower pan to try to keep the dirt out of the drain- it worked well for a while, but I am looking for a better option as that shower drain pump is very picky. I will have a few updated videos & projects on the Scamp in the next several weeks so stay tuned 😊👍 Enjoy your Scamp!!
Thanks!
🤔um….at 1:26 there’s a Sasquatch outside your window for a second! 🙈 😹
Nice 😊 job with your tour. I’m looking for a 5th wheel Scamp. (Right now we have a 1990 29 ft Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite and I love it but I need to get something smaller it’s difficult to find locations for renting a spot long term 😌.) I will be living full time in it and I want to have that floor plan I love the setup 😏. Thanks for taking the time to do this I appreciate it. God Bless. ❤️😏🖖🏼🇺🇸
gotta keep an eye out- you never know what is wandering around the pine barrens!
the scamp 5th wheel is very hard to find! we looked for a long time to find this floor plan- we think it works the best for regular use- especially with some of the recent modifications we made (updated tour video coming soon!) - Thanks for watching Eric & enjoy the camping season!
With these and I think escapes have the fuzzy walls. I imagine odors cling and the smell of damp fabric. How has that been?
we are very careful about airing out the camper after use, keeping things open when in storage & lots of moisture absorbing bags to keep the musty camper smell away- I also put peppermint oil around the camper regularly to keep insects & mice away so it smells pretty good!
Great job explaining the actual living functionality and issues encountered. loved the review I wish they were easier to get.
Thanks Charlie, they are hard to get- only so many made each year and the factory seems to focus on quality- there are some other options for similar fiberglass trailers- keep an eye out, you never know when you may find one 👍
Great video. I am impressed with your follow up in comments. I found a Scamp for a super good price and wonder if it is a hoax. Motel rates have gone up! Hopefully we get it! We have a 26 foot trailer sailor and it is 7000 lbs. The truck will pull it but it is a pain. I would not feel 2000 lbs back there. We have so much stuff that would be interchangeable with the Scamp. I bet there is a video out there about winterizing it yourself. I bet throwing some moving blankets on top at night in the cold would help. Most heat escapes upward.
we love to watch videos about RVs & we still agree that the Scamp is best for us right now given the weight & layout. We may eventually upgrade to something like an Oliver or Escape...or maybe just a newer model Scamp - but right now we are very happy to have this scamp & yes it has gotten very expensive to stay in hotels or even airbnb! makes us like camping even more 😁
Was it a fraud? If its too good to be true it usually is….
Check out The Egg Camper made in Michigan. They are not currently in production, but someone bought the mold and will be making them again.
They have double fiberglass construction- no rat fur and the water tank is inside. They are also taller inside and the bed area is 7 feet wide.
The downside is no propane- just battery and electric.
that sounds very interesting! hopefully the get back into production 👍 thanks for the suggestion 😁
Never buy from a company that closed and bought and opened again
you can add or enlarge existing windows for better lighting
sounds like we would have to cut the fiberglass for that 😬- we just added overhead lights & it worked great to brighten up the interior space, thats in a newer video. sounds like we need to do an updated tour as we have made several changes since this video 👍
For interior lighting a lot of campers add Fairy lights across the ceiling. It’s surprising how much light some have. Walmart has several options.
that is a great idea and it would look so nice 👍 i am going to look into that, thanks!
How do you connect your grey water exit which looks like a hose connection, to the larger septic drain hole at an RV park? They want things to fit tightly. Is there some kind of adapter? Thanks
the black and gray outlet are separate on the scamp, but we use the usual sewer hose with a clear camco adaptor to get a good fit and to "keep an eye" on things 😂 we also got a valve that allows us to back flush the tanks with water to get them extra clean Here is the sewer hose: amzn.to/3F9NmIr and you can find all the stuff we use in our Amazon Store: www.amazon.com/shop/letnewadventuresbegin
Have to see if Solar is available and a separate 2 door fridge!
Also, if a Convection microwave is available, ..love the storage, and maybe get a griddle! Hint:. Some trailer companies offer one as an incentive to buy! ☺️
the new models offer many upgrades so it is possible 👍
1st! How did you make out renting your camper or is that in another video?
It went pretty well- no major issues, but I will put together a video with more details about the whole experience
Terrific!! What is the tow capacity of your Cherokee?
I have a Hyundai Santa Fe with a 2,000 lb tow capacity, but I'm not sure if I want to press the limits by going with the 16' or if I should play it safe with the 13'.
the jeep is rated to 2,000 lbs so we are challenging it a bit with the scamp, the first owner pulled with a Rav4
Looks like this is an older one? Curious abut the weight? The 1,700 lbs you state seems a lot lighter than what I was quoted (2,400 k for a 16 foot). I think this does depend on options, though. Would you agree?
it is a 2012 with the lower trim package so it is lighter, they have an option for real wood that increases the weight, and I am sure they have changed the appliances a bit which may also have added weight to the newer models
Can you attach anything to the rat fur lining? Like a rack to place cell phones, keys, flashlights etc? I keep seeing the empty space unused especially when there's so little counter space anyway.
lady & scamp uses stretchy bungee nets with Velcro. They attach to the interior walls.
Perfect. Looking for a used 16 mdl 6. Not feeling very lucky......😔
keep looking- you never now when one will come up 😁
Really great review, is there a fan in the shower/bath or is an option. I am looking to loose the AC for the same reasons you mention as we are Spring and Fall campers and thinking 2 fantastic fans one intake and then other out take would be beneficial.
Hi Mike - I forgot to talk about the bathroom (wet bath) as we dont really mind it, but I know some people cant stand a wet bath. It does not have a fan, but there is a ventilation window in there that seems to work well- we have not had any issues with mold yet
Ive looked into them. To difficult to find. Have to wait more like two years for a new one. I'm seriously looking at an R Pod
yes- they are very difficult to get, and the R-pod looks like a great option 👍 good luck with your search
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Just looked at one. Was disappointed, to small and overpriced. But did find one I'm very happy with. ua-cam.com/video/i06gCPIFiPE/v-deo.html Its a retro. This is the size I'm getting, only in red. And there are multiple dealers just a few hrs away here in Texas. And readily available. And this size is only $14K to $20K depending on what extras I want. It reminds me of the one my mom and dad had when I was a kid in the late 60's. Almost forgot..lol. I enjoy your channel.
I did this nice ..I got to see one took a look inside a newer one 😁cost say 12000plus ,
Scamps are great & the newer ones have upgrades that address many of the little issues we have with ours, but they hold their value & can be tricky to find used
I like your enthusiasm about your little camper :>) I noticed you said you said you couldn't tell if the refrigerator was lit... That era of Dometic should have an ignitor... is the 12v power hooked up to the refrigerator? Just a cheap thought... Those refrigerators can be the greatest thing since transparent windows :>) :>) :>)
Hi Don, we love our little camper- it has been so much fun working on it & traveling with it. The fridge is hooked up to the 12v, but most of the time we run it off the propane because it gets colder faster that way- having a fridge really is one of the best parts about having a camper 👍
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Sorry for the confusion... the 12v power should make the little indicator on the front of the refrigerator blink if the flame goes out... so you can tell from inside when the flame goes out. And, they make little fans to circulate the air past the back of the refrigerator to help it cool too. Next time you have the access panel off the camper make sure it's all nice and open up to the upper/roof vent. The better air it can get in back, the better it cools :>) I saw the comment on the little fan for the inside. I haven't gotten one of those yet but I'm thinking I'll give it a try, but I always try to limit how much the door is open so mine stays plenty cool. Enjoy your camper!!!
@@donr6499 humm we dont have an indicator light on the front of the fridge- maybe because it is an older model. Ours just has a tiny little window that you peer into to see if the pilot is lit & it is very challenging to see in the daylight. I have a feeling there will be a fridge upgrade at some point in the future
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Sounds like you're missing a cover in the back that shades the little tube so you can see the flame. More Cheap advice :>) I'd skip replacing your fridge for a little while. All the import stuff is goofed up right now (Tarrifs, etc.). There is a RV refrigerator replacement table and it makes your life much easier if you get the one that directly replaces your old one. It will only take minutes to pull out the old and slide in the new. Or, if you want to change size, make sure you get one with the EXACT same width (as listed on the table). If you have room above the fridge you can rebuild the hole for a taller model but it's important to get the same width and manufacturer. Rebuild the hole first so you know how tall you can go (with the table in hand so you know what model you can build for). Your camper has a curved in sides so you may not be able to go as tall as you'd like. Either way, you really have to go with the same make (Dometic, etc.) so it will fit. Each company has it's own dimensions and connections. Until then, you should be able to download the manual for your fridge and it will show the parts breakdown and see if you're missing a little metal cover piece surrounding the flame. You can make one out of sheet metal from the cheapest piece steel duct from the hardware store and a nail to punch the screw holes :>) There's nothing better than a camper with good working appliances :>)
Ive been wanting a small rv to do a year or more travel and done so much research and i really want a 13’ or 16’ scamp I have a smaller truck that can tow up to 4000lbs so light weight rv was a must because ppl forget the added weight of the things they put in the rv to use and i really want to keep it to a min to be better on my truck plus the smaller the rv there r more off grid places u can camp for free after i made up my mind on a scamp i went looking for videos on how to make it more self sustainable and found a wonderful couple who got a 13” scamp and have lived full time off grid in it for i think 3 yrs now so ive gotten a really good idea and i found a website that has used scamps only all over the usa im hoping to find one soon and make videos revamping it to be fully off grid
What's the website?
Steffie- that sounds like an awesome plan! we are slowly working on making our tiny house & our scamp more self sufficient so longer trips are possible. One tricky part is that going off grid can be a rather expensive process! what website were you using? we have utilized fiberglassrv for different listings and forums related to the scamp
I am wondering if one of the Artic Air as seen on TV battery air coolers would help?
we just got something like that from my mom and have yet to try it out - (have not been out camping when it is hot yet this year) - we will let you know how it works out
The Artic Air work great in a dry climate and not at all in a humid climate.
Well done video. Can u insulate the tanks yourself
thanks Wes- we would like to insulate the tanks in the future & we have seen some other scamp owners do it...so we will keep you updated on that project
Thank u. Plz do 😁
Hi! Thanks for the video, very useful info:) Just one question.. You said the Scamp wouldn't really work for people over 6ft, but site says the interior height was 6"3'. Is that not accurate? Or is it a short 6"3'? haha. Thanks!
Hi Joshua, I wonder if they increased the interior height on the newer models as I know that was a concern for many people- ours is a 2012 and I dont think it would be super comfortable for a taller person because of the bed size, the bathroom ceiling and the door height, but I do know some taller people that make it work- they just have to watch the head room 👍
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Great, thank you!!
I was wondering that too . Website dimensions show it should be good for 6 ft
If you like 4 season you might like the escape trailers from Canada. Its Canada proof.😅
the escape is our front runner for the next rig!
what is the capacity of the grey and black tanks? i like this trailer though. it would be perfect for 1 person, me!
the fresh water is 12, and I believe the gray is somewhere around 21 gallons. It would be great for 1 person, but we make it work pretty comfortably with 2 👍
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin thanks, they are neat little campers. i am just looking, rent is getting way out of hand. i would rather pay for something like that, then throwing money away for rent.
For the price of it - it should be a four- season camper!
that would be nice! there are not many true 4 season campers out there- it would be great if Scamp bumped up the insulation for year round use
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin which 4 season campers would be on your radar? Are there any in the same weight range? Thank you!
@@andyhighsmith6519 The only good one I know of is by the Canadians at Arctic Fox, and it’s a truck bed camper not a trailer. And maybe the Lance Campers.
Find any others yet? I’m always interested in the same thing for our climate. It seems like true 4 season is rare for these trailers.
At marker 2:47...is that pages from the AWOL Guide of the AT (Appalachian Trail)? I'm Section Hiking the AT...I've made it from GA up to Fahnestock State Park, NY (as of 9/2020).
you are very observant! yup I purchased the guide in 2013 after reading his book hoping to get an extended hike in...that didnt work out but Ive done a few sections in VA, PA, NJ, NY. It makes me happy looking at it :)
Very good, and enlightening! We have a 2010 13' scamp and can identify with a lot of your pros and cons (I was laughing out loud at the end, when you spoke of the difficulty to see the pilot light during the day on the LP refrigerator ignitor) The 13' is a little small for us, and we may look to get a 16' like yours... wanna trade?
they are fun little campers! I guess that is one perk of getting to a campground after dark- easier to see the fridge pilot light 😂 Ive been told the newer models have an upgraded fridge that is easier to turn on 😁 we love the 16' layout, but wish the bed was a bit bigger because Mr. Redford likes to stretch out his legs (& does not even consider the idea of sleeping on the floor 🐶)
Lucky me is about to purchase a Scamp 16ft that my brother owned. He sold it to a family friend that I am purchasing it from. I'm moving up from my 1970s Burro 13ft.
I'm wondering what LED bulbs you used to retrofit your lights.
And a tip for you. My brother installed a very small fan inside the fridge. It is mounted at the cooling coils. It circulates the air inside the fridge over those coils and makes the fridge much more efficient.
I'll be looking at more of your videos.
David, that is very lucky- Scamps are hard to find! but the 1970 Burro sounds really cool too! the LED bulbs were ordered from Scamp- you can get any replacement parts you need from them & you know it will fit.
That is a good idea with the fan 👍 we are always looking to do little upgrades like that- thanks for the idea!
Great review. Reminds me of my rv days of a while back. You look terrific by the way.
thanks! what type of RV did you have?
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin It was an old motorhome by Pursuit called a Georgie Boy.,32 ft. Used it for vacations and outdoor sports. Went from one end of Texas to another. It could be a hand full, but always an adventure. Thanks for asking.
Awesome 👏
Thanks Ricky- it is such a great little camper
Do you have a furnace?
Yes it has a furnace- which was working very well until a couple of weeks ago...now we are trying to figure out what is wrong with it, will keep you updated on that in future videos
It is incredibly hard finding a used scamp for sale. Which tells me they are very durable and people that buy them tend to keep them for a long long time.
That being said would buying a new one be worth it? I would be looking at a 16 foot
they are hard to find- we looked for years and had to make a quick decision when we found one. If you have the money to invest in a new one & are ok with a waiting period to get it I think buying new would be a good idea- they have upgraded many of the issues I talk about in this video in the new models (better fridge, usb outlets...) and with a little care it could be something you have for many years
Great video
Thank you Rick!
Where do you shower?? Do they come with a shower???
yes- it is a wet bath so the shower is in the front of the camper with the toilet
8 to 12 months wait time? Surely that's not the case now.
nope i think it is closer to 2 years now 😳
You’re speaking from the point of view of an older model. RVs advance yearly on modern fixtures. Check the 2021 model.
yes- we do have an older model & there are many updates on the new Scamps...but there is nearly a year waiting list for a new scamp and when people do get a scamp they tend to keep them for many many years so there are lots of older ones out there too
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin you’re right on that. Someone recently reported 1 yr wait in a new one(13’).
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin can you add updates to yours?
Nobody's perfect. Things also.
yup - there are pros & cons to everything & for some reason I really enjoy making a good pro/con list 😁
Where's the bathroom
in this layout the bathroom is in the front of the camper
Waiting list is 2 years now
that is a looong time to wait for a camper!
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin yeah, no kidding
Scooby Doo would love it
if only it could fit a Great Dane 😂
Wallpaper in the closet...you might want to replace unless you...Google 😏
it is temporary- like contact paper...peels right off
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin I was making a joke about what pineapples and flamingos mean in the RV life. Sorry bad joke
Dont go to.texas...its april and 91 degrees each day this week
that actually sounds nice 😂 especially when it was in the 20's the other night here in NJ
24 month wait right now.
wow- that is a long time!
Yeap, you should have gotten the air conditioner.
I think Patrick would agree with you 😂 but we tend to like camping without hookups so AC wouldnt do much good on those trips - like dry camping at Assateague when it was 95' 😳
Looks like it'd be an informative video, but did you really name your trailer??? I can't....
Yup...thats Doris named after Patrick's Grandmom 😊
Con: way too PeeWee Herman.
😂😂 its all in good fun!
Get a real RV made to order with better amenities!
considering this is our upgrade from tent camping it does have amenities to us 😂
They can't tow heavy she said.
Maybe you could help them out with that?
