Thanks so much for making this playlist for us new players. I started playing about a month ago and I just hit plat for the first time with your roach build. That’s not anything amazing but it’s pretty good for me as I didn’t know jack shit when I started. These series’ are easy to follow and provide so much insight into this very complicated game which is so valuable to new players, and it breaks it down to a digestible process that anyone can follow and with practice, can master. I showed the Terran b2gm to my friend from school as well and he just made it to plat as well. Thanks for putting the time in to make this series happen
Looking at that first game its amazing how far the entry level gold league players have come. They used to just sit back at base doing nothing then come in if you leave them long enough with a load of units. Now your seing 2 prong active early harrassment, proxy building and other things. The lower leagues have improved significantly in the last few years.
there is less new players and that results in overall higher skill level. Someone has to be gold/silver/bronze, no matter how good/bad they are. I got placed in gold several years ago and everybody knew some builds and executed them almost decent. They had quite low understaning of what's going in the game tho. In plat people could use strategy already while having decent execution of build orders, transitioning. To reach diamond i would have had to play more consistent, on a daily basis. I resigned with plat 2 lol
@@plunderersparadise I hardly play the game im currently around diamond 3 but to improve anymore I would need to dump significant time and effort in. The general player base is just so good now.
I know its 1 year old comment but I just have to respond. I came back “back” to the game after almost 20 years (last time I played Starcraft actively was brood war back in school). This build still works in plat 2 - plat 1 in EU. The backstab, pull back if not ready, really allows to go far. I only struggle in ZvZ. And still have to switch to roach hydra sometime (thanks to vibe). Great B2GM so far, thanks Pig :) (and the keyboard shortcuts are sick).
Thanks for the updated b2gm, was really struggling with roach only build. I keep getting annihilated by Terran's early push. Great improvement from the last !
this is the perfect topic for gold I struggle in platinum because I passed gold by rushing super early winning most of my matches including all but 1 placement if i recall within the first 5 minutes every time longest my match would go is 7mins anything longer it was just someone who won't surrender which i can understand after being rushed by constant hydralisks since the first minute and a half give or take. now I've been trying to take longer games i'm proud to say I can confidently go 10 minutes before I all-in with a river of bodies now thx to you lul
There wa a time when ling bane vs ling bane was pretty common in my league. Those were always my favorites. Fast paced and devestating. Sneaking banes from bushes, and sending in one or two lings to blow up their banelings when they were distracted. Constant joyous panic.
First ranked match I ever played on SC2 was against a plat… was rough lol, but I’ll adapt. I’m an old school SC1 player, even before Brood War, but I have not played since like 2000
1:30:00 i remember like 30 games where i lost it, because i did not know how to handle this... just wait somewhere with cca 10 corruptors... with his economy crushed but not really sure how to build the spire, 4 gasses... these silly guys just beaten me.. :D
Hey Pig, in later videos could you explain what different numbers of barracks mean in ZvT. Also gases in ZvP and drones in ZvZ? I always here pros talking about this and so don’t understand what they take from this information when they scout.
2 bases 5-1-1 is an all in with a timing attack. 3-1-1 means the terran plans to exapdn and go for a longer game or a 2-2 timing. 2-1-1 is a quick double drop agression around 5'20. Gas first and reactor and the first Rax means hellions but you don't know if the terran is going mech or bio. Probably mech if they go for more than 8 hellions. But I think all this is irrelevant until high plat/diamond ( I was doing vibes f2 a move not lloning until plat 1 x))
Great stuff man, have to say that I hope you do Protos 😊 any chance of getting your horken setup. Looked into the core but those keys don’t correspond to what you seem to have
Protoss B2GM: ua-cam.com/play/PLOrKQEirgvjBJrKM31yhwA8v54pcBuXsx.html - I'll be doing a new one with different strategies after I finish this Zerg and a new Terran B2GM :) My hotkey setup is super customised and doesn't work without insane level of customisation - I'd highly recommend you use the Core IF you want to set up an advanced setup, but otherwise just standard is good
@@ilichnunez9659 eyy diamond 3 is great. If you want to discuss hotkey setups best to talk to the nerds that designed and work with the Core themselves over in their discord server: discord.gg/Uw3vX8r
I was playing as Zerg and someone once went mass hydra/lurker on me. Recommended counter to this? Broodlords to deal with lurkers and ling loop around behind and jump the hydras?
Lurkers are pretty far down the tech tree so you should be able to hit a timing before they get to them. If they do get there, make sure you have overseers in the mix, and if the game drags on technically using your own lurkers + vipers for blinding cloud on their lurkers is the play. That's not recommended for anyone below diamond, but it's up to what you feel comfortable working on and trying
My only criticism is that you assume that we can tell if the fight we are having is the last one for instance 2:32:12 , shouldn't a gold player assume the worse and rebuild the army ?
I was just showing that you just need to click the banelings into the mineral line, and that with no extra actions they'll generally destroy most of the SCVs. Once you have no more effective micro to do in the battle you can focus on reproducing army
Because I do the show live as well I can't go above certain resolutions or it'll actually look worse. There's only a certain level of bitrate that I can max out and I'd need a fair bit higher to make 1440p worth it
The build order in the Google doc seems a bit incomplete. Doesn’t list times to build bane nest, second gas, etc. anyone have some additional info on this?
10:07 Was that just a random DT catch or how did he know they were there? Yes u can se the shimmering but how did he know to pan overe there. I rewinded several times to se if they attacked something giving away there location but they dident so how did he know they were there in the first place?
Hi pig, i have a problem with floting money, after the build finish and the game drag on i don't know where to spend them, is ther anything u can advise for spending my money ?
make sure you always have a second robo unit queue'd up, chronoboost them. Double forge + double expand so you can keep transferring workers to new bases as you mine out. Go to 12 gates too if you're still floating over 2k minerals
Sorry correcting my previous response as i gave the answer for protoss :P. More bases, macro hatcheries, hive, 3-3 upgrades, ultras, adrenal glands - all great ways to spend your money
Hello Pig, thanks for the guide! In the 2021 b2gm you said that ZvZ should be nonstop ling+banes but in this one you say massing ling+banes is weird and that we're not going to see it very often on ladder. Is the difference that the 2021 build hits way faster, so you're not technically "massing" them?
Just got back to sc2 after 6 years , had a game like that , my opponent did mass lurkers and i want mass muta with some roach Killed some lurkers and expanded , got more gasses and made a lot of units
what logic dictates which base will be your 3rd? 4th? etc. i know a lot like to take their 3rd at the triangle position, but I hear some higher skilled players like harstem and thermal say its risky to take the triangle position. how do you tell when its risky or safe?
It's all up to how you prefer to play. Taking the forward one is easier to defend from backstabs generally, but easier for enemy frontal pushes to reach your base. Also if you lack anti-air the triangle base is easier for them to drop back and forth from your main and 3rd base, so that can be very annoying as zerg
In game 2 vs Terran, I think he could have lost from BC, he didn't have vision. In my Gold games of late, if I play like he did in game 2, there would be BCs at my base and I would lose.
Id love to know how to deal with mass BC's from a terran that is turtled in. I cant kill them fast enough maxed out with Currupter and broodlord. Near on fucking impossible as they kept teleporting away when low health too. But it just got to a critical mass. I assume its just a case of waiting to starve them out and never engaging ? The games last for an hour or so its so fucking toxic.
I believe you can overwhelm them with a strong timing attack before they can mass a lot of bcs. In the last btgm Zerg he played mass roach and it would crush a player investing so much resource into bc tech which takes a bit too much time. Then of course you scout it just make sure you have reactive spores in your bases and queens ready to react and defend. If you wait too long and let them build up mass bc then it will be veryyyy hard to stop. If you are worried about high ground tanks and running into that then try using a nydus work in their base and maybe 2 prong from front and back with nydus. Hope this helps dude!
There are a lot of tells that a terran is turtling. If they expand very slowly. Build lots of turrets. Build a planetary fortress on any base before their 4th base. Any of this means they're turtling. You can either be very aggressive or very greedy vs turtling players. If you're very greedy you can go straight to 6 bases, go up to 90 drones and then just smash ling bane into the enemy denying their bases and never letting them get up a 3rd base. Whilst adding corruptors as needed to deal with BC harass. As long as you keep your worker count up you will have roughly 3x the enemy economy, and even higher as their bases mine out. It will feel trivial once you recognise early enough what's happening and drone up hard enough. Should definitely run into one or two players who play like this in the next episode.
@@PiGCoaching I’m gonna try this approach instead next time. Just always feels scary expanding and droning up so quickly and to such a large scale not knowing when the enemy will attack. In games recently whenever I scout a player going so fast up the tech tree for bc I just go for a overwhelm and drop into main and distract up ramp. Because if they have lots of static and also tech buildings then they can’t also have much army right? Do you think this is a viable option too?
@@PiGCoaching Thanks Mate. That makes alot of sense. Im currently Diamond 3 and really struggle with this. What is crazy in my head I know what I need to do but once im in game the panic sets in.
We do both. Macro hatcheries first because it's vital to get them up and the 4th/5th base might get denied, and this way it's easier and quicker to start them and add them to control groups. Adding queens for macro hatcheries and every base would mean you're getting way more queens than you ever need. Each queen is 2 supply and 150 minerals - so wasted money and supply that's not drones or army. You also then would have a macro cycle that changes constantly throughout the game. Injecting 3 hatcheries is repetitive and becomes smooth like clockwork. Injecting 3, then 5, then 7 hatcheries gets very slow and takes a lot more attention. In the next episode we'll introduce some creep/defence queens which will do a one-off stack of injects on the macro hatcheries each game, so they'll still produce a lot more larva without affecting our macro cycle habit at all
I count a full 40 seconds that he was in the grip of that pigs/minorities joke. 15 seconds in, the angel on his shoulder says "we're done here, apologize and move on", but 15 seconds after that, the devil on his other shoulder is STILL saying "solid joke though, there's no denying that".
many years of experience. RTS games are all about learning new systems and feeling overwhelmed, so you just focus on repeating and internalising a few things at a time until they become second nature, then move onto the next thing. It's a slow and steady process that's incredibly rewarding, but takes time
*wakes up in the middle of the night and smacks my wife on the butt* her: QUE? (she dont speak english) me: inject, inject, inject her:QUE!!??????? me: zzzzzzz :)
Cloning?? That doesn’t even make sense. Like sure let’s pick a word that has nothing to do with what’s going on. I prefer how you call it “Shift-Deselecting” because that is actually what you’re doing and it makes perfect sense, unlike cloning which doesn’t make sense at all. Not only that but when you research Starcraft 2 cloning you’ll find only articles about “Hybrid Cloning” from the SC-Lore.

Glad to hear it's kicking ass Kradukman!
This video is the best one I've watched on defending rushes/cheeses/early aggression.
Man this series is so damn good.
There wa a time when ling bane vs ling bane was pretty common in my league. Those were always my favorites. Fast paced and devestating. Sneaking banes from bushes, and sending in one or two lings to blow up their banelings when they were distracted. Constant joyous panic.
DUDE, thank you so much, comiing off a long break and i have smashed from bronze to gold so far. Keep up the good work !!
You helped me get back to zerg after several years break. Got gold in 10 games.
1:26:20 Metal Gear?!
1:26:30 thats a metal gear reference if i ever seen one
Looking foward to BTGM Protoss series :)
Thanks for all your series PiG! We must protect this man at all cost 😍
cheers mate
It finally dropped on youtube 😄
First ranked match I ever played on SC2 was against a plat… was rough lol, but I’ll adapt. I’m an old school SC1 player, even before Brood War, but I have not played since like 2000
Your videos are super helpful for new players like me. Thanks for the great content PiG!
cheers mate
Best part of the video is at the start when Pig responds to a certain someone resubing. ;)
BTW I did join Discord (can't remember when exactly) and I've got a ton of great advice!
I think I'd prefer watching this against ladder opponent's, but def still enjoying
1:30:00 i remember like 30 games where i lost it, because i did not know how to handle this... just wait somewhere with cca 10 corruptors... with his economy crushed but not really sure how to build the spire, 4 gasses... these silly guys just beaten me.. :D
glad showing that helps you out mate
Great stuff pig i need that platinum part. I got zerg up 300 and now im losing to platinum players.
really good videos to learn the game ! thx so much! hope you will do something like this for stormgate !!
haha once I figure out how to play it myself for sure
32:00 lol, that Terran got destroyed.
I am in this video and I like it :D
Great video series, super informative but 2:16:14 was so incredibly out of pocket
LMAO with the mionority comment. YOure awesome PiG keep it UP!
What do you think of building 2 extra queens to defend against air in the main and to inject the macro hatches?
I like zerg because I think they’re neat. ❤
Great stuff man, have to say that I hope you do Protos 😊 any chance of getting your horken setup. Looked into the core but those keys don’t correspond to what you seem to have
Protoss B2GM: ua-cam.com/play/PLOrKQEirgvjBJrKM31yhwA8v54pcBuXsx.html - I'll be doing a new one with different strategies after I finish this Zerg and a new Terran B2GM :)
My hotkey setup is super customised and doesn't work without insane level of customisation - I'd highly recommend you use the Core IF you want to set up an advanced setup, but otherwise just standard is good
@@PiGCoaching thanks man, trying to improve, got stuck at Diamond 3 so checking out how to improve
@@ilichnunez9659 eyy diamond 3 is great. If you want to discuss hotkey setups best to talk to the nerds that designed and work with the Core themselves over in their discord server: discord.gg/Uw3vX8r
At ~43:00 you mention that one can download replay interfaces. Where is that?
1:40:00 hoist with his own petard
I was playing as Zerg and someone once went mass hydra/lurker on me. Recommended counter to this? Broodlords to deal with lurkers and ling loop around behind and jump the hydras?
Lurkers are pretty far down the tech tree so you should be able to hit a timing before they get to them. If they do get there, make sure you have overseers in the mix, and if the game drags on technically using your own lurkers + vipers for blinding cloud on their lurkers is the play. That's not recommended for anyone below diamond, but it's up to what you feel comfortable working on and trying
Will you do a new one of these soon (maybe once the 5.0.14 patch releases) for 2024/2025?
how do you send lings to kill workers without getting distracted by ANY source of damage? I want them to keep killing drones
pig being slow is my best apm
So apparently I started talking in my sleep I asked what I was saying... Inject overlord drone unit creep loop 😂😂😂
To late PiG I use core 😂
My only criticism is that you assume that we can tell if the fight we are having is the last one for instance 2:32:12 , shouldn't a gold player assume the worse and rebuild the army ?
I was just showing that you just need to click the banelings into the mineral line, and that with no extra actions they'll generally destroy most of the SCVs. Once you have no more effective micro to do in the battle you can focus on reproducing army
Are you able to upload in 1440p60 PiG or is it something to do with Twitch/recording where the bit-rate isn’t high enough? Thank you!
@@PiGCoaching pig this is zerg not protoss
@@tbone8358 rofl my bad
Sorry correcting my previous response as i gave the answer for protoss :P. More bases, macro hatcheries, hive, 3-3 upgrades, ultras, adrenal glands - all great ways to spend your money
I wish I played games where the enemy has 8 stalkers at 12 minutes
2:11:32 "The key is choke points, and queens in choke points". Translation: Queens have a thicc booty. Make good use of them.
How to defeat the helions + cyclone comp?
Hello Pig, thanks for the guide! In the 2021 b2gm you said that ZvZ should be nonstop ling+banes but in this one you say massing ling+banes is weird and that we're not going to see it very often on ladder. Is the difference that the 2021 build hits way faster, so you're not technically "massing" them?
What do you do if your opposent do mass lorker?
Just got back to sc2 after 6 years , had a game like that , my opponent did mass lurkers and i want mass muta with some roach
Killed some lurkers and expanded , got more gasses and made a lot of units
1:25:00 XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDddd
Hey PiG, are you going to make a new B2GM series for Terran, too?
yep!
@@PiGCoaching Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
what logic dictates which base will be your 3rd? 4th? etc. i know a lot like to take their 3rd at the triangle position, but I hear some higher skilled players like harstem and thermal say its risky to take the triangle position. how do you tell when its risky or safe?
@@devloveswifi4893 Thanks for this.
2:00 That dude is onpoint
Why do you do macro hatch instead of taking more bases? Also, why don't you get queens for the macro hatches?
In the next episode we'll introduce some creep/defence queens which will do a one-off stack of injects on the macro hatcheries each game, so they'll still produce a lot more larva without affecting our macro cycle habit at all
what if they just build air?
Without scout you lose... which is part of the game
I'll be getting to plat just because i want a queen named Brian May
I count a full 40 seconds that he was in the grip of that pigs/minorities joke. 15 seconds in, the angel on his shoulder says "we're done here, apologize and move on", but 15 seconds after that, the devil on his other shoulder is STILL saying "solid joke though, there's no denying that".
Suggesting ling/bane to beginner Zergs is inherently such a bad idea.
How does anyone stay so relaxed during a game of sc2. I feel like I’m running 200 mph until I get killed by a timing attack
many years of experience. RTS games are all about learning new systems and feeling overwhelmed, so you just focus on repeating and internalising a few things at a time until they become second nature, then move onto the next thing. It's a slow and steady process that's incredibly rewarding, but takes time
*wakes up in the middle of the night and smacks my wife on the butt*
her: QUE? (she dont speak english)
me: inject, inject, inject
her:QUE!!???????
me: zzzzzzz :)
Either my bronze/gold opponents are much better than this or I am much, much worse than this
This shit feels impossible
its so stupid if it would be carriers insted of BC tahn you would never win that
Oh man, poor Senju ua-cam.com/video/0MPYHqdozZQ/v-deo.html
every sc2 game longer than 6 mins is stupid
Cloning?? That doesn’t even make sense. Like sure let’s pick a word that has nothing to do with what’s going on.
I prefer how you call it “Shift-Deselecting” because that is actually what you’re doing and it makes perfect sense, unlike cloning which doesn’t make sense at all.
Not only that but when you research Starcraft 2 cloning you’ll find only articles about “Hybrid Cloning” from the SC-Lore.
yeah ima stick to shift-deselecting from now on :)
