    One thing to consider before quitting is the “deinfluencing” culture. A lot of people are starting to get really tired of influencers and their constant advertising of stuff that no one really needs in the first place. At this time when we are most likely facing a recession, the overconsumerism promoted by influencers is just super irrelevant. And I’m not saying that you are necessarily doing that, but when you go full-time on UA-cam, you will have to make money somehow, which is when you will take brand deals that will pay you the most. And any brand deal you get, you will ask your subscribers to basically spend money on that brand which, in this economy, is insensitive and even tone-deaf.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Рік тому +11

      I totally agree with this! Overconsumerism is so real and that's why you see me try my best to only take collaborations that will positively impact people like credit cards or products I truly love/use!

      I do feel like this could be said about any marketing or advertising type of career tho. Or any sales job. Or any retail job. I see your point about the influencer culture of promoting products during a time of hyper consumerism being tone deaf. That’s definitely not Carter tho lol. I think it’s all about choosing the correct partnerships, and not being pushy about it.

    I think being relatable has everything to do with lifestyle habits than it does with working a 9-5. I have stopped watching certain UA-camrs in the past because once they quit their 9-5, their day was going to SoulCycle, grabbing brunch with a friend, going shopping and doing a skincare/makeup routine video... such hardship LOL.
    You are very honest, down to earth and financially conscious. That's what makes you relatable in my opinion.

    You are my comfort youtuber so I will watch you regardless. 😂 I do agree though that having a job does make you more relatable. As a woman in my 30s, I love watching creative people who still have a grip on the adult reality. Sometimes I think creators lose touch and don't even know it! Maybe taking a LOA or finding a low stress part time may be a good transition? That would help with the anxiety of "taking the leap" as well. Test it out before you commit. I support you regardless but those are my responsible thoughts! LOL!

    I’m #TeamMatt about rice and quitting your job! I’m really glad that you’re having these conversations BEFORE you get burnt out. I see no downsides to quitting. You’re obviously going to give your manager notice. At most they may ask you to train the new hire. But wait until it’s warm to come to Toronto. OMG the collabs that could happen 🤩 But obviously do you in your own time ❤.

    My two cents: only go for it when you feel at peace with your decision. And this could happen as early as tomorrow but in my experience being really at peace with your decision to quit really helps when it comes to pouring your energy into next steps.

    feeling this so hard!!! a little bit of a different situation because i’d be quitting to be a stay at home mom but taking the leap is SO stressful. When? How? what happens if…? so many unanswered things and talking out loud through so many options. but also if not now, when? THE STRUGGLE 😂😂 hope you find the right path!!

      I'm in grad school already so that's why I can take education leave so I don't need to worry about that part! None of my videos are really about work to begin with so my content wouldn't really shift😊

    I think taking an education leave for about a year is a wonderful idea! I would be hesitant to actually quit since it sounds like you love the position. Also, as an Ontario healthcare worker, stepping away could have a big impact on your pension, whereas one year off on leave will let you feel out what’s best for you. Two jobs is a lot to manage! ❤️ you’ll figure out what’s best for you!

    sending you all the love! your feelings about work are totally valid - it's so incredible that you love your full-time job too! i hope you can figure out a leave of absence or just give yourself time to figure things out. there's no rush to it all, we have the rest of our lives to work. & totally feel what you said about beating yourself up about being a better partner/daughter/friend etc... it's a dark hole to spiral down if you think about it too much so give yourself some grace! working 2 full time (obviously one being more flexible than the other) jobs is not normal by any means lol

    I think you need to do what you LOVE to do. I work on the business side of the medical field and while I like what I do, I don't LOVE it. I adore my boss and he is probably the main reason why I stay at my job. He is amazing! I was recently diagnosed with Cancer and he has been amazing through it. I could have taken a medical leave of absence, but for my mental health, that wasn't a good idea for me since I am under a strict quarantine and would be bored out of my mind. I have started doing mini "volgs" on instagram and while intimdating, it is something that I am really enjoying. In the US, I don't know if I would ever quit my job, just because I have fantastic insurance through my company and I have realized it while undergoing chemo and the thought went through my head of "What would this cost if I had to pay for private individual insurance?" In the US, the private individual insurance is not as good as getting it through a company. To put it under context, every one of my Chemo treatments cost $5K and I pay nothing right now through my insurance. This is a VERY long winded way to say, Canada has a universal healthcare, we don't, so I don't think that would be a worry for me, and I would go for it. Having said that, you need to do what is right for you. I think taking a leave of absence might be a really good way to test it out and see if you want to do this full time. Then if you do, you can always go PRN with the hospital and still do that when you want. That way you get both without having 2 full time jobs.

    • @jaimemactx
      @jaimemactx Рік тому

      Sorry that was soooooo long. Chemo makes me ramble a lot I have found LOL. Also if something didn't make sense, well I blame that on the chemo as well. 😂

    Damn, I could relate to this vlog. I've been feeling off this weekend and felt thiiiis close to breaking down all day lol. (:
    I hear you about leaving the job... I work at the same hospital as you but I believe a different campus, have been for 11 years, and work there every weekend on top of my Mon-Fri job. I've checked all my boxes to leave as well, but I just can't bite the bullet.
    There's no rush to make a decision, weigh the pros and cons. It's a decent employer with a good pension, and it sounds like your current position is quite flexible in allowing you to work part-time and from home most of the time. However, it does sound like you miss out on other opportunities because you have your corporate job, and it would a whole lot less stressful balancing two jobs.
    My thought is, it's hard to make it as a content creator, and you're making it. You could take the leap of faith and run with it while you can! You've got the education and experience to fall back on if things don't work out as expected, but surprising things happen when you take chances.
    Whatever your decision, it's your life you have to live. Choose for yourself and you know we'd support you either way.

    First off, the Henley shirt looked super cute and flattering on you! Second, I am with Matt and could eat rice any day of the week lol. Ironically, I have rice cooking while I am watching this video. Lastly, I think you will always wonder what full time content creation is like if you don’t give it a try! The educational leave sounds like such a great opportunity. Maybe that means that you could find a job where you are able to pick up shifts here and there to get out of the house and still maintain a good balance between UA-cam, life and work. Totally up to you and I cannot wait to see what you choose. Ultimately, your happiness and peace of mind is the most important❤

    Hey Carter! You may want to research/check with your doctor but I was told by my doc that vitamin D is no where near as effective unless you have it on a regular basis (vs. taking one here and there, on gloomy days, etc. I mean). I take it every day personally, even in the summer (during work time aka not on vacation lol…when I’m not consistently spending time outside). But of course look into that yourself.

And you get to choose how your videos are and what your lifestyle is and I just don’t see you changing your lifestyle just because you no longer have a corporate job!!! AND you can always go back….I think your best bet is to see if you can take a leave of absence…don’t have to totally give it up but it also gives you a chance to try it out! NO matter what I will still be watching soooo if that helps at all you don’t have to worry about losing my follow ❤

    I don’t think you would really lose followers if you quit your job, primarily because you’ve always kept your job so private! My question is, if you quit your job to be a full time influencer, what is the point of going through your certificate program? Would you even feel the need to finish it? I’m sure it was very expensive.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Рік тому

      I tried to explain in this video but longterm I DON'T see myself as a full time content creator. I love being in corporate healthcare and have alot of long term career goals. Therefore to me it's still super important to finish my grad school certificate program! I really just want to try my hand at doing this fulltime for this current season of life, until I'm done school at least! I'm just juggling so much that if I can do it fulltime for this next year or two why not? I think a break would be great to also re/evaluate my career goals and where I see myself whether that is staying in the corporate side or going to PA school etc. My program is actually very cost effective which is why I chose it- I pay out of pocket around $600 CAD/class! Hope this made sense!

    Ok lol I’m 23 & took gummy vitamins up until a couple years ago so I feel you! I had a few different opinions from my doctors, but what you said about the additives not being great is pretty spot on. My old pediatrician used to tell my mom that if it’s the only way that she can get me to take it then so be it, but that the absorption from gummy vitamins is much lower than if you were to just take vitamins in a capsule or what have you :) in summary, do you ❤ also good luck with tret- I use it for acne and honestly I feel like it’s all the rage right now! Start with 1-2 times a week over moisturizer and build up one day more a week until you know how you tolerate it. It took me 3-4 months personally before I could use it every night under moisturizer. I purged, but never peeled or had irritation that way!

    Be willing to go to the back of the line if you ever want to come back to corporate hospital/healthcare work. Every term there are graduates and other employees moving into positions that open up and as healthcare continues to struggle in Ontario, those positions are not

    If you quit your current job, would it be hard to get back into the hospital? If you did want to get back into the hospital after. Would quitting the corporate side allow for more creative pursuits (should you have the desire) like merch, small business, or patreon? That way maybe losing one stream of income wouldn't seem so scary? If quitting won't effect your prospects of getting back into work (I know we can't predict the future), then I guess there is no harm in trying. There will always be someone who is hiring even if isn't at the hospital. Do you think you would regret not trying? If you did quit, your content related to finances, work/life/mental health balance, vlogs, organization, etc wouldn't really change (in my opinion).

    You say that 2023 is your year. Give it time, it just started, you have the whole year! Don’t force it. When the time is right, everything will fall into place. It’ll be easy, if it’s right and meant to be. You’ll know.

      I love this mentality! That's exactly why I wanted to have a chat on it. I'm in NO rush by any means. Like I said I really enjoy my job- just going to see where 2023 takes us. Alot is up in the area right now in all aspects of life so what's meant to be will be!

    In fact, for me, I found it so inspiring people who quit they job for doing youtube full time! Like, it takes a lot of courage for doing that and do whats make you happy! But I understant the feeling and the financial anxiety. Maybe you can try it for a little time? :) Will follow you in this process and be with you virtualy! Take care xx

    It sounds to me like you're trying to talk yourself into quitting your job/doing UA-cam full-time. I mean, if you love your part-time job that much, why quit? You definitely sound burnt out, so that leave of absence might be a good solution while you finish your degree. But you can always cut back on UA-cam instead of work, too, and we would totally understand.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Рік тому

      That's a fair comment honestly, sometimes I also feel like I'm trying to talk myself into doing UA-cam "fulltime" because it sounds like the natural next step but right now I'm just being honest and talking through my options with y'all. I don't want people to think balancing a 9-5 and UA-cam is always easy because it isn't. I DO love my part-time job BUT I love UA-cam so much more if that makes sense. I really don't want to cut back on UA-cam honestly. I know that would be the easiest solution here but it's truly my passion project and in full transparency my biggest source of income! I know people mean well when they tell me to just cut back on UA-cam but I'm doing my best to find every other solution but that because the filming./editing isn't what is burning me out its juggling EVERYTHING!

    I don’t think you will lose your relatability if you quit your job. But if your financial anxiety is already bad and you have a steady source of income, I feel like getting rid of that security will add to the anxiety. Could you hire people to help you and continue to do both?

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Рік тому

      I have considered hiring someone but the large stress I have is just balancing everything, not necessarily editing my videos if that makes sense? While that would take some weight off my shoulders I still have to film! I'm so grateful for my UA-cam management team because they take care of so much behind the scenes which in return allows me to just focus on filming/editing! But I'm trying to weigh the pros/cons of hiring someone. If I hire someone I'd have to pay them (which is fine) or I could realistically quit my job and do it myself and not lose that income. Lots of decisions to make and grateful for this community for giving me great suggestions!

    I am Team quit your job haha. In all seriousness, I do not watch your videos because you work a job. I watch all of your videos because I enjoy you as you! I think we all also love your budgeting videos but you can definitely still make those even without working that job. You make income other ways which is still super interesting to learn about how you budget it all. Some ppl might stop watching but I truly believe majority of people will stay because of you and not your job title. This is my 1st time ever commenting on someone’s video but I just wanted to say this in hopes that you see it & maybe will realize you should do whatever feels right in your heart & to know it’s just you as you that we all enjoy. ❤

Her situation is different because she has 2 kids, but i think she might be a worthwhile person to look into and get advice from if you’re able to..maybe through her yt business email?

    To be honest I’d be here for the full time content creator content.. your current job isn’t very relatable to me anyways (I am a teacher and have to go in to work daily M-F) and I feel like that is probably true for a lot of people, so I really don’t think people are here only for the wfh content! Go for it! 💕

    I’ve watched a lot of UA-camrs transition to full time over the years and one thing I always say is being stressed all the time and stretched too thin SHOULDN’T be relatable.
    Also, I’ve never stopped watching a channel because they transitioned to full time. But I have stopped watching because they stopped being able to put effort into their videos because they burned themselves out.
    At the end of the day, you’ve gotta do what’s best for you!

    Have you investigated if there is a linkage between your migraines and your birth control? I ask because my Mom had migraines for years only to find out they were being caused by her birth control. The migraines were a side effect.
