I love this! Also just want to throw out there for anyone newer to credit cards that it’s a good idea generally to keep your older cards open unless you have other long standing credit history, because your length of credit can impact your credit score quite a bit.

I made this mistake recently. I closed my student "starter" credit card and upgraded to my Chase card....and my near-perfect credit score plummeted. BUT it's still technically good--just not as good 😂 I'm building it back up, though. I lost the benefit of having a good 3 year history, but now I have a much higher credit limit and lower utilization. So you win some, you lose some.

    • @CarterSullivan

Yes it is! Typically Matt and I map our year (and what we hope to do) and then time our credit cards around them. So last year I opened a new card when I had to pay tuition and also for renos! I've also heard people say open a credit card before planning a wedding/elopement which is smart!

RRSP reduces tax you pay now, but you will be taxed on all withdrawals based on your income at the time. RRSPs have to be converted to RRIF(registered retirement income funds) by the year you turn 71 I believe. They force you to take a percentage out, and you can take more if you want.
If you don't have a pension and have high income now it's pretty good. I prefer to max out my TFSA for tax free withdrawal and not be forced to take it out with tax.

A word of caution about credit cards, if you overpay your credit card bill on accident, on a credit card that isn’t directly part of your bank, it can take months to get that money back 😅 and it’s a lot of back and forth with the bank and your credit card, it’s happening to my husband (and it’s not a small amount 😅), So just be mentally present when paying your credit card 😅
