Milwaukee M12 with Bad Motor Restoration / Rebuild
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лют 2025
- Welcome to my restoration channel. This is a restoration of Milwaukee M12 Impact. I was at a local auction and picked this set up for around $30 USD. As seen or heard in the video, the impact was making a weird growling noise, so this lead to me replacing the motor. This is probably the newest tool that I restored/rebuilt. Would you pay $30 for this kit or pass it up? Let me know.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I tore the Milwaukee m12 impact apart and gave the parts a good cleaning. I sandblasted the nose cone and and bit sleeve. I gave the nose cone a quick polish and clean which would be the final result. The bit sleeved was hot blued. Hot bluing is the process where the part is heated up then quenched in oil to achieve the blackened look and to help prevent rust. This part turned out great. I regressed the hammer assembly then put it back together. While working on the plastic impact housing, I messed up some of the rubber, so I fixed that with some glue. I repainted the Milwaukee branding and replaced the decals. As you could hear, the impact was making a growling sound, so I replaced the motor and regreased the gears. You can sure tell a difference.
I think this small tool kit was worth the money and I will be using it in the future.

Hey! I bought this M12 kit at an auction for around $30. After the purchase I found out the impact was messed up (Probably why it was at the auction) oh well…. Sooooo I restored it! Was it worth it?
Also here is another auction find that I restored for my dad. ua-cam.com/video/YPdNFjYANjE/v-deo.html
$30 for a used m12 kit is great, one 2.0 battery is $36 , i paid $128 for this kit in a fuel version
@@dancearoundtheworld5360 the answer to the question is no its not worth it, you're welcome
@@machineman8388 💅💅💅💅💅
Unfortunately not worth it at that price. If it was at least the m18 version or the fuel m12 then yes, but the ones you got were not worth it in that condition for $30.
Love the quote on your wall!
It is so amazing how you take apart the smallest of things and can keep track of all the parts and put it back together again. Just wow.
Thanks much! I appreciate it! Have a great day!
I’m a Milwaukee guy my self but also enjoy Craftsman’s made is USA impact I hope they come out with a USA made line I’d buy it. Love the vids God bless!
*_It is so enjoyable to watch a skilled artisan fix something like this. And he has all the needed tools too which helps. Thank you for this great video._*
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!👍
This was DEEPLY SATISFYING to watch. Thank you for your video, you have an incredible eye for detail and a professional approach to making this battery powered little engine that could. The charger looked practically new ! Epic. 👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻
Thanks much! Appreciate it! 👍👍
Another great rebuild! This will no doubt “have an impact” on your next project! 😮 Good stuff! 😊
Teehheeee 😎
My Makita 10v impact is an absolute beast. I've used it every day for the last fifteen years. The kit came with a drill and an impact. I never used the drill but I beat the hell out of the impact. So when the trigger broke on the impact I took them both apart and put the trigger from the drill into the impact. Those old electric impacts and drills still sell for around $140.
Sweet! I will definitely keep using makita!
Thank you your videos are amazing educational and therapeutic I appreciate your channel
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed 👍
Lovely restoration. Great video mate
Thanks much!
Awesome job! Keep up the good work. God bless.
Thank you! And God bless
9:48 common reason for noise is dry bush that makes contact with the anvil shaft. You should of greased the shiny round perfectly machined shaft near to prevent friction, premature wear and play on the anvil shaft. But other than that nice restoration video. 👍
Thanks much!
Tek kelimeyle mükemmel bir işçilik ve mükemmel bir ustalık. Mükemmel Bilgi. El sanatınız var SİZİN. Teşekkürler. Ve başarılar sunuyorum size. 👏👏👏👏👏👍💯
Thank you very much! 👍👍
crazy how such a small tool has that many little parts in it. cool video
It is neat how they are made! And thanks much!
You may could have opened the old motor and replace the brushes or bearings. Just an idea. And since you already replaced the motor, operate on the old one to see what the problem was...can't damage it any worst now. Thumbs Up!
That’s a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. Have a great day and thanks for the comment!
I wanted to see motor rebuild too.
Even in need of some repair , what u paid for is a steal.. Great job 👌, sub'ed
Seemed like a decent deal at the time. Thanks for the sub! I appreciate that! 👍👍
Just bought this same impact used. Might buy another one to try this with, they're getting super cheap
Awesome! Not a bad price!
Another awesome Restoration!!! Keep up the good work bud!!
Thanks man!
I got the same impact. my go to beater! for bigger jobs I takeout the Makita!
Thanks for the feedback. I’m a Makita guy
Nicely done.👍
Thanks much!
Another great rebuild.
Thanks much!
It’s amazing how you know how all the components come together out and what order they go back together… do you have a service manual(s) on everything you restore because your knowledge amazes me?
Nice job 👏Makita is the best for me💯
Thank you! I like Makita as well! 💪
Makita guy here! 😎
Now we talkin!!!
Could you show us how to rebuild a gen 4 m18 impact driver? Great job btw!

Good work! Great attention to detail! Also picked a brand worth restoring😏
Thanks lawnracer! You into that Milwaukee huh?
Where did you get replacement stickers for it?
If I remember right, it was eReplacementParts
Very nice. What liquid was used in the hot bluing process?
😊 nice 👍
Thanks 😊
Were the planetary gears timed ?
how did he get the stickers plus the exact metal background
I found them online.
good to know if (or rather when) your milwaukee fails, you can still use a makita to fix it :'D
You better keep the Makita handy!!! 😂
@@RebuiltRestored i have bought the cheapest hyundai (around 30usd brand new, came in a carton box) when I moved away from home, and it is still holding up strong! I'm suprised i got the one working model, and fear the day it finally gives up.
Great job keep up the good work and if you don't mind me asking what auction site did you buy it from.
Thank you! It’s a local auction.
@RebuiltRestored ok thank you and I'm looking forward to more content
The way he had to set the bearings balls not to roll and stay in a line damn either his table is leveled or he just putting a lot of hours editing these videos for our satisfaction
To much time on my hands! Can be frustrating!
Where did you get the replacement motor, and what is the part number please?
I use both! Team red and blue
Very Good 👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👍🧰👍🪛👍🔩👍🖌👍🛠👍🧪⚗️👍🖨💯
Thank you! Appreciate it
Battery life indicator on the impact not working? 4 little LEDs
Yes it does. Other people have commented. I should have got a better camera angle of that.
Where did you buy the motor from?
I prefer Porter Cable, lol. Nice vid. I don't possess the patients to do what you just did.
Porter Cable? Ok! Thanks much!
I am Milwaukee guy!
Thanks for the feedback
Super👍👏
Thank you 👍
Why didn't I see the red led lights on the unit working after the repair?( power level for batteries)
Someone else asked about that. The cam didn’t pick them up or I didn’t get a good shot but they do work. Good eye! 👍
I’m a Milwaukee guy till I die
Thanks for the feedback!
Milwaukee and Makita are very close in comparison,But it's easier to deal with Milwaukee customer service!!
Thanks for the feedback!!
Wow
Thanks!
Do you sell anything you restore/rebuild?
No. Not at the moment. Thanks for asking.
Charge led looks like it isn’t working
Thanks for the comment. It does work. It didn’t show up on cam 👍
awesome! I prefer makita.
💪💪💪
06:46 for the sake of the video a burning torch right next to an aerosol can? That didn't seem to make much sense to me. Please be careful and keep up the good work. And of course makita. before tti Milwaukee has a chance...
Keeps the Starting fluid from freezing… 😮😅😊
🔥I’m a Makita guy as well! Thanks for the feedback!
All of these cans and sprays and aerosols are roughly equaly flamable/explosive so...
This is a Milwaukee 2462-20 m12
Milwaukee makes more powerful tools for sure, but Makita is always reliable, since they don't really delve into newer technology
Thanks for the feedback! I’m a Makita fan myself.
makita💪
You know it!
cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Thaaaaaannnnnnkkkkssss!
Milwaukee tools all the way. TTI, the company that owns Milwaukee, also makes Ridgid and Ryobi tools.
Thank you for the info!
Show
Thank you!
I always prefer Milwaukee
Milwaukee actually
Thanks 👍
Có mạch cân bằng không sop
Thanks for watching!
Milwaukee especially the M12 line
Thanks for the feedback 👍
*6:55** What’s the name of chemical? Pls*
That is just cooking oil. When heating up steel and dropping in oil, it gives it a blued (blackened) Finnish and helps prevent rust. Thanks for watching!!
Так эпично Макита чинит Милуоки это о многом говорит
1:06 im definetly a milwuakee guy but all my friends use makita nad i gotta say theyre tools arent bad but theyre sub compact line from makita is bad but otherthan that they are good
This doesn't affect the function but the Battery Life Indicator lights are not functioning. Good job, otherwise!
Thanks! They do work they must not be showing up on cam.
How about DeWalt?
They make some nice stuff.
I prefer mil
Thanks for the feedback.
Just saved yourself 150 bucks
Not sure when this impact is $150 🤨
I could get it for quite a bit less then $150 where I’m from.
It’s a tiktok joke lol where this guy fixes shoes up and at the end he always says “I just saved myself 150 bucks”
@@yxilly lol I haven’t seen that
FZ150! When you see the foam, you’re in the zone!
Nice work!!!
Corinthians 1:10
Thanks much!
30 dollars brand new on Amazon
For a Chinese knockoff
Great job. But that Impact is only 35$.
Thanks much!
I preffer Milwaukee
I think I’m with ya! Thanks for the feedback!
It’s always milwaukees lol
Thanks for the feedback
Bosch.
Here in Brazil the top brands are Makita, Bosch and DeWalt. But from what I understand Makita loses to Milwlalkee. Milwaukee doesn't look easy. It is more concentrated in industrial use.
But Makita has been losing robustness, like this all-plastic torque multiplier on some screwdrivers. Premature engine burnout... They're riding on brand strength.
Thanks for the feedback 👍.
I perfer Milwaukee
Thanks for the feedback!
I would just buy new let someone else do this
To much work?
@@RebuiltRestored yes for me I wouldn't know where start
Battery indicator is busted
It works. I didn’t get it on cam
About $30
👍 decent price
I prefer Metabo😁
Ok! Thanks for the feedback. I don’t think I have ever used Metabo.
I don't know you get shit like that back together. Get you a Hakko soldering iron man. You'll thank yourself the first time you use it.
Thanks much for the advice. I don’t think I’ve heard of them before
@@RebuiltRestored I love mine. I do a lot of working on my camping rig and I'll never not have a variable soldering iron. It's good quality.
Bro was being stingy with the grease
You don’t want to load it to much 👍
Makita
Same! 👍
That m12 hackzall is trash. The m18 one is good though.
It’s not trash to me tho! 😁
@Rebuilt & Restored another man's treasure! LOL good video though!
@@xcyted4now thanks! 👍
Not worth the time.
Thanks for the feedback!
Milwaukee daddyyyy
💪
I’d never waste my time on non-fuel Milwaukee tools
Time is valuable! 👍
