This looks like it’s from 70s maybe early 80s. Definitely looks like a model I remember seeing in the garage that my dad had. He use to brag craftsman for the lifetime warranty replacement. Guess we finally got the answer as to what lifetime they meant.
Regardless of what decade this grinder was made in, it was made back when they made things to last. Even as a kid the 80s was a hell of a time to be alive.

Possibly the best balanced grinder ever made. When new it would spin for 3 minutes after being shut off. Mine bought in 1972 are both still running fine.

This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

I too always keep my torch running in the locker. Never know when you need it STAT ! I can almost hear your narration, but maybe that's just because we think alike. I am trying to get my own You tub channel started. Two projects I want to do is one, I have an old school die grinder with the flexlible shaft in the original wood box from the 40s more than likely . I bought it off of Ebay from and estate of a jeweler . I am going to do a youtube video on that and I also have an American Made solvent tank I am going to restore and also to that on on UA-cam its probably over 50 years old .I already have the pump and found and American made parts cleaning brush for it too. I love old school tools they will never make things like this again and love to see them restored the pride and craftsmanship is dead and gone and will never be back . Great job I love it

@@RebuiltRestored Wow I havent had anybody give me that much support in so long I forgot what is was like! Been down in the dumps with the cold icy weather and I havent been able to get any of my projects worked on and it is driving me nuts. I have been trying to get my Chevelle restored and that is shut down too. I am doing a frame off. Its a factory Heavy Chevy they only made for two years its a matching number factory four speed car. I want to do the rest on You tube if everything goes good. You really made my day I cannot thank you enough you really cheered me up and have given me incentive to launch my youtube. I am very nervous I am still learning editing but all the youtubers tell me the same thing. Hey we were nervous too and we just did that first post and that is all you need to do. My first video is going to be about a Jet Ski it never had the oil changed on it and the oil filter was frozen on there and I could not get it off even with a pair of huge channel locks. No room I had to take the inside of the ski apart and half the part of the engine apart to get to the oil filter it kicked my ass. This is going to be my first post. Your reply really cheered me up and I really needed it . Had three people in the past week treat me really bad so I was really down in the dumps. I need to move out of here so bad the people are horrible here and I am working on that too. Thank you thank you for cheering me up you made my day dude I really needed this ! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉

Not sure if this information has already been provided, but here's some facts re: this grinder: Craftsman made them from 1950 until the late 70s early 80s. It cost $72.95 new in Craftsman's catalog [1959]. The shipping weight was 85lbs-35lbs being the cast iron/steel pedestal. An online inflation calculator puts the cost of this grinder at $786 in 2024 and the stand at $183. The embossed "11 58" indicates this unit was mfg in Nov. 1958 and the "115" prefix in the model number indicates it was built by Sunlight Electrical Mfg Co./Packard Electric Co. for Craftsman. [edit]: Btw; great video.

I have had my grinder just like yours for it must be 55 or more years now. It is in as new shape because about two weeks after I purchased it I was in a terrible accident when a 17 year old brat hit my car in its rear. He was going somewhere around 50-60 when he hit me as I waited for the light to turn green. Anyways I wasn’t able to work after having my neck fractured in two places and four vertebra ruptured leaving me paralyzed from my waist down. I was a mechanic until that time but I haven’t worked an hour sense. Nice job on the Craftsman 3/4 hp grinder.

When I was watching this, the computer technician in me was like, “where’s the grounding plug?” Lo and behold, you have delivered. Well done, sir. You’ve breathed new life into that old tool. ❤

    5:06 Me too...me too.
Also, if you notice the scanning black bars in your footage at 20:19-20:25 you can get rid of them by adjusting your shutter speed to a divisor of 60 if you're in the US (1/60, 1/120, 1/180, etc) or 50 if you're elsewhere in the world (1/50, 1/100, 1/150, etc). This corresponds to 60 Hz or 50 Hz frequency of the electricity. There's also some cameras that have an anti-flicker setting that automatically adjust for it!
