One addition, the men weren't in town when Curley's wife is killed, they were outside playing a rather loud game of horseshoes. All else seems accurate and very helpful, thanks!

I would say that Lennie symbolizes George’s hope for his own ranch. A dream that he keep telling himself over and over again. After Lennie kills the woman, George’s hope runs away to a safe place. However, George has to find it and kill it, before the others, because it is all over. He was so hopeful on the american dream that it got him killed.

I would add a couple of points, the most important being that this is essentially a Cane and Able story examaning the question 'am I my brother's keeper'. Also, you state that the story line with Curly's dog foreshadows the fate of the migrant worker but even more so it foreshadows the ending with George and Lenny (remember that someone else shot Curly's dog for him and it was a major regret, as he felt it was something a man should have done himself)

It was actually Candy's dog, not Curly's.

I would also have discrimination as a theme, people are ageist to candy, ableist to Lennie, sexist to women and racist to crooks. That's a lot

    • @jessewalker5740

@@clipscript5395 crazy part is that is how a lot of professors think about things now a days. Everything is sexist, homophobic, and racist. Once obviously straight characters are now secretly gay for some reason, and everything is a micro aggression to some subcategory of humanity. For example, He held the door open for a woman because he doesn't think she can do it herself. He is a mansplaining white male sexist bigot obviously. Umm ma'am can I just read and enjoy a great novel without all the liberal indoctrination to be offended by everything.

That's implied in the theme of loneliness. Those characters are lonely due to the discrimination they faced.

I also think that the dog's death has something to do with lennie's death like candy kept saying that he had to shoot the dog himself so george maybe felt that he shouldn't make the same mistake and let the others kill his friend lennie.

This analysis is lackluster. It is a foundation for those of you who are searching for a quick analysis on reading Of Mice and Men; however, for those of us who are actually seeking an in-depth analysis for knowledge are being blue balled. What about the fact that the town they reference is called Soledad which in Spanish means loneliness? Additionally, the theme's aren't elaborated on. For you to actually create a theme statement that is vivified it must be an individual idea extrapolated from the reading. For example, the apprehension of loneliness could be detrimental to one's sanity. See these are themes that are actually vivified throughout the book. So please for your next analysis try to be more involved for those of us that are seeking for an in-depth analysis. Sorry if I seem pugnacious of any sort, I'm trying to advocate for more profundity.

We need to remember Lennie's childlike nature and, what nowadays would be considered learning needs. This weaves through the story.
