    story 2- I'm turning 34 next week, my dad passed away almost 2 years ago. I would give anything for another daddy-daughter date! My heart aches for that man's daughters, he has no idea how much he is hurting their future relationships with him.

    In that 7th story, it always makes me laugh when a man says their partner is emotional, right after a long diatribe about how emotional they themselves are. Lmao.

      My husband always sleeps when we have driven to Arkansas. We don't talk the entire time so our daughter can sleep or focus on her show or whatever, unless we're hungry or need to stop and use the restroom. That's it. We both keep one earbud in to listen to podcasts or whatever else and to keep an ear out for our child!

    the second story. Dude. I'm nearly 30, My dad and I have so much fun hanging out whenever we can, going out to eat, going to a store, buying ingredients for food, cooking and eating it. My dad finds a fun ingredient and buys it so we can cook with it, Like "I bought coconuts so we should make thai food!" and its so fun. He took me for sashimi and a movie when I was like 6 and to this day we still love making and eating Japanese food together and having movie marathons while we cook and eat. It would have killed me to hear my dad say that to me.
    And about the friends thing, sure teens and adults need space to hang with friends, but having a good relationship with your parents doesn't affect that. I used to go camping with my friends(my dad would go out with me to find the right gear), to parties with my friends, to their houses, we go drinking, to the beach, karaoke, restaurants, sometimes we cook and eat together. To this day my friends love my dad, he is always welcoming, willing to give advice or provide help.
    the dad in the second story sucks so much.

    As a kid and as a teen I had a lot of issues, both emotionally and medically, I took it all out on my dad. As I got older I matured and realized that none of it was my dads fault and all he ever wanted was to help me, but he didnt know how. Now I'm a married adult, living several hours away and my relationship with my dad has never been better. We go out on daddy-daughter dates whenever we get the chance. He still remembers my favorite things to do. If I ever mentioned being "too old" for a daddy-daughter date he would probably laugh at me and think its a joke. He loves getting one on one time with each of his kids. Nothing wrong with or weird about that.

    Story 6 makes me so happy that I just have a super religious mother in law but who respects me as a parent. She was so great during my pregnancy, helping when asked, and always asking what I was comfortable with. She has been so great

    That dad with the daughter dates is ridiculous.
    I dates aren’t romantic, just relationship builders. I have friend dates, parent dates (with both and individual) , sibling dates, and then romantic dates with my husband.
    Sounds to me like the dad has some screws loose.
    My dad has four kids. Guess what he does each week? Rotates the kids and has about 3 hours of alone time to connect with each kid. One lives out of state, so he calls and catches up.
    There’s nothing weird about that.

      And they’re single moms. Gee, I wonder why? Oh yeah! Their mother is exactly like that: vile and disgusting. I bet they cheated on their respective SO’s/husbands and that their respective kids are theirs. On top of that, they keep forcing OP’s daughter to babysit their kids while they go out and fool around. Meanwhile, OP’s wife enables them like crazy and is complicit in the abuse.

    Dude story 1, that dad, or his new wife, is sexualizing his daughters. It is the only reason he would be saying she is "too old" and it would be wrong to go on a date with his daughter. As Candy said, a date doesn't mean it is romantic.

  • @tinak2576
    @tinak2576 Рік тому +37

    Story 1: dusty thunder, you went waaaay too easy on the OP. if the male bf had been distancing himself over two years, the fact she openly writes how upset she is over his choosing to spend time with his gf, prioritizes his gf, and put the gf’s picture in his wallet clearly outlines this is not a new thing. He recognized what she was doing (gf likely did too) a long time ago. So he took a step back (just like Reddit would suggest he do). He laid it out for her. “Call me when you want to be an adult.” He is not an AH. OP is an unaware AH. She does not own him nor is entitled to his time. I hope the guy recategorizes OP to ‘a girl I used to know.’

    • @sonadowfangirl30869
      @sonadowfangirl30869 Рік тому +3

      It definitely sounded to me like OP sees their friendship more as an actual romantic relationship, with the frequent sleepovers, the movie nights, and then getting upset that their fake wedding picture got replaced by the BF's actual girlfriend to the point that she confronted him about it.

    • @jachyra4
      @jachyra4 9 місяців тому +2

      Getting upset about the wedding picture is a dead giveaway. If he's dating someone, especially for that amount of time, he SHOULD want his girlfriend's picture in there instead of his "wedding" with OP, even if there are zero insecurity issues. If she thinks she should still be in the place of honor over his girlfriend she's got another think coming.

    Story 2: My dad stopped giving me goodnight kisses when I was around 8. It was a huge deal in my life when that happened and it made me feel awful and unloved! Now I'm in my 40's, older sisters in their 50-60's. Family get togethers he hugs and kisses them all. All except me. 43 years old and this still sits with me so bad 😢 Not that I would kiss my dad at this point in my.life, but it's an eyeopener on how he actually felt about me through my life. I've learned how to be a wonderful and loving mother by striving to be the opposite of my parents.

    As a woman who had almost zero women friends and mostly guy friends I can say if you truly are his friend you must befriend his women.
    And if you truly want to salvage the friendship understand boundaries are going to be made and need to be respected. Every single time that one of my guy friends got a girlfriend I gave them space and tried to direct my friendship towards the girlfriend more to make her comfortable so that she could see I was making boundaries and noticing hers as well.
    This can absolutely work but you have to be willing to make some sacrifices in order to actually be a good friend to him as well as opening up the relationship as a trio so that she also not just filled welcome but feels like she belongs in the group.

At this age, we go to a craft brewery, or a tattoo convention, or an action movie...and we have the kind if friendship now that I'm an adult, where there are certain things i can only talk to him about. Boy if I'm the daughter whose passport was stolen, I would be reporting those stepsisters for theft. I don't know if it changes the severity because it's a federally issued document, but it is at least theft. Then we have a conversation about leaving that many children with an 18-year-old with no prior arrangements. Perhaps we have that conversation with the police while we are reporting the theft of the passport

Because I personally have no problem with the guys that I am dating having a close female friend. Of course assuming that they are just friends. However, I absolutely agree that the bestie and the girlfriend have to meet and be comfortable with each other. I have lots of guy friends, and whenever they start dating someone, I always want to meet them. Like that part seems suspicious to not wanna meet your best friends girlfriend.

    Story 1: As a former female best friend, no matter what kind of action she takes most of the time the friendship is over once the guy gets with someone he really cares about. Fucked up as it sounds its fact unless the woman is really chill.
    For context on how i know this, i'll tell you my story.
    I was friends with both my best friend and his now wife. She knew how close we were, and when they got together, he did distance himself from me. I had no issue with it cause it made sense. I only talked to him when he contacted me first and stopped making plans to hang out with him cause she expressed to me that it did make her uncomfortable. There was only 1 time a few years after high school that I asked to hang out with both of them cause I was moving out of state. She ended up having to work, and I was told when I showed up at their house. I went to leave, but he said it was okay. We stayed up all night chatting and playing video games. When she got home around 9 p.m., she even joined in on the hanging out. When she even got home, I switched my main focus to her cause I didn't want her to be uncomfortable. When I left the next morning I thought all was good. I didn't speak with either of them for a few more months, and out of the blue, I received a message on myspace (yes im that old) my birthday from my former best friend calling me a shallow piece of shit and to leave him and his family alone. Before I could even ask, wtf was going on, he blocked me. Recently (over ten years later), I found out from her brother, whom I'm still friends with, that she always hated how close we were and felt threatened by me even though I always felt he was like a brother. The brother wanted to apologize since he's watching his other sister go through this and realized how fucked up it all was and wanted to thank me for never asking about them. I told him thank you but not to tell me anymore cause it ain't my business. They made sure of that.
    OP sounds like the asshole by how she's acting, but at the same time, no matter how she acted, it probably would have resulted in the same end result.*shrug*

    Op 1. Has feelings for her best friend and is jealous af.
    Op 2. Is definitely an AH. He's gonna lose his daughters if he continues this behavior. My dad chose his second family over me, he didn't make it a point to spend extra time with me like he did my sister and step-bros. We rarely speak now and I don't make random trips to see him. I haven't been to his house in almost a year.

    I'm 19 aswell, there isn't a stupid cutoff age for this stuff, if you want a relationship with your kids when they're adult then hangout with your goddamned kids, let them know you love them or they'll end up like me, holding grudges against their parents for some reason or another and seeking validation from strangers who have even the slightest parental vibes.

It sounds kinda stupid, but GF may not appreciate it if she doesn't know you. I also agree with Dusty, how come neither one of you know each other? Why hasn't he introduced you?

    Ok..the daddy/daughter date night story…I feel like the dad made it icky the way he kept emphasizing “date night.” Especially saying they are too old. It just feels off. And why in world would you want to distance yourself from your kids. Lots of kids don’t even want to be around their parents! I dunno. Dad feels off in this. And I’m sad for the daughter.
    My personal experience I have nephew/ niece dates. Where we hang out have fun and eat the junk food (with parental approval) that the parents don’t usually buy, do things that we only do like arts and crafts etc. I don’t see an age limit for those moments. As long as they still want to hang out with me, their crazy silly auntie I’m game. So I don’t understand the dad and his wife making it weird.

    Oh yeah..... she sounds like she has feelings for him.
    I'll say this you cannot be friends with a male as a female like this with someone that you could eventually be having feelings for or seen yourself having a romantic relationship with.
    I do agree that the best way to start a relationship is by being friends first because friendship in a relationship is imperative, but you've got to be able to set and respect and keep boundaries especially if your guy friend starts dating or even gets married.
    There's a tiny possibility that he could be pursuing this relationship with this woman because he doesn't think that he can have it with best friend here however if that's not the case this kind of behavior is going to demolish their friendship.
    Always remember in order to be a friend of a man or a good spouse to a man.... BE HIS PEACE!!!

    Story 2: there is no age limit to daddy-daughter date nights if daughter has a good relationship with her daddy. Something doesn't seem right here. I'm not even that far into the story, and I'm already thinking YTA. But let's hear the rest of the story.
    ...And I was right. You're an asshole for treating your daughters like that.

      I'm going to level with you here. You did make some valid points about not wanting to be seen as a creep, but at the same time, it's your freaking daughter! Who cares what other people think? It's a father spending time with his daughter(s)! I do however disagree with your ex-wife putting you on blast on Facebook. Let's keep private things private, okay?

    The dad should have never had kids if He's going to sexualize his own kids. That's the real reason why he doesn't want to take him on a date

    Teens know u cant wear white to a wedding and most teens will not wear what their mother tells them so i think it was on the teen but the mom could have told the teen and had her pick something else out so the mother in law is the asshole

    Story 2🫨🫨🤯🤬🤬🤬 Idiot established a relationship with his kids and now is back tracking ???? By implying "it would be weird" you are opening a can of implications that they now have to process, horrible awful implications.
