I truly do not care about how they assumed they'd get a cake in the first one.
Assuming makes and *** out of you. Nothing is guaranteed. You have to ASK so people know you WANT that. Nta

Story 6: He's TA, without a doubt. Yeah, it could be rude offer to pay if you're going with someone super close and in a superior position as you: Like a uncle, parent or a grandparent.
But its also good maners offer to pay, specially if they are already treat you so much in this journey, and he has all the lunch time to think about it. For what he said, he knew it was a "good manners" too hecause gf told him.
I understand why she would resent the idea of being with someone who not only takes advantage of the courtesy of others, but can't even pretend to reciprocate.

Story 2. My heart breaks for that girl.
I had Covid December 2020. I still (July 23) have no spice tolerance - it was destroyed. My appetite is done.
My nose changed too. Several favourite perfumes now smell hideous to me 😢

Offering to pay: he is TA. She flat out told him her and her families cultural expectation AND she said in the OFF chance that her dad accepted OPs (insincere) offer to pay, that SHE would pay OP back for he bros and dads meals! He’s a jerk.

Story #5 - NTA! As an insurance adjuster with years of experience, (I am also an anxious driver) there is no way anyone would intentionally get into a collision for a free meal 😅. It is very stressful and scary, good on OP for understanding her feelings and doing something to make her feel better, instead of worse.

As someone with gasteroparesis (essentially partially paralysed stomach) who often has to order off the kids menu so that I can actually enjoy eating out without feeling bad for wasting a lot of food, the server story really bugged me. There are so many reasons that people do this from chronic illness to neurodivergence to eating disorders to financial issues and I think that if someone wants to order off the kids menu, you should just let them do that.

An autistic here seconding that the server story also bugged me. If it's only a $2 difference, what was the fuss? I know my brother who is middle school age, also autistic, would definitely also tear up if he couldn't have the single thing on the menu that he could eat. We've never gotten him to eat any sauce on noodles. Her immediately tearing up and opting not to eat on instinct just screamed food related trauma to me.

Agreed! My husband has Gastroperisis, his stomach is fully paralyzed. They have done all they can for him and he can’t eat much at a time. Sometimes he barely eats once a day. I also have issues and prefer to order off the kids menu at Restaurants.

Yeah, I was thinking about that as an autistic person. My best friends are non-autistic (at least officially) and if they have somewhere they want to be able to go, I want to be able to accommodate. And, yes, they go places I want to go, too.

My brother and daughter are both autistic and have a limited food range that are considered safe foods to them. We have eaten so many cheeseburgers with ketchup and fries at fancy restaurants. They try their best and are adults, autism doesn't allow large menus sometimes.

    Regarding story #2:
Big hugs to Candy Thunder, bc I had covid in Sept of 2021 and can completely relate! It completely stole my taste & smell. It took months to return, and it's still far from what it was. I, too, had sooo many of my fav foods/candy, beverages & scents ruined. It's to the point that, nothing ever sounds good when I'm hungry.🤷🏽‍♀️
OP is DEFINITELY TAH for not only running back to the manager over & over to rile him up; but then to refer to that young person as a "crybaby on the patio", definitely wins them the Ascon1 title.💯✌🏽

I still think OP in story 6 is TA ! I do t believe it was a spur of the moment thing. He laughed at the suggestion rather than talking like an adult should do. He is happy for everyone else to pay for him but can’t even try to be nice and show his appreciation by footing the bill this one time . I would be so put off as well.

Leechy BF needs to go bye-bye. Her family routinely buys him dinner/meals; they took him on vacation. His response is to laugh in her face when she suggests he do the bare minimum in a goodwill gesture. And he can't buy 2 extra people brunch? He was willing to pay for his own - and gasp! - GF's meals. How TF is him buying 3 meals besides his own like her treating 8 (extra? or including him?) people to a meal?
She can do better. She deserves so much better.

If it were me, I'd try redox cell signaling molecules supplement. Helped me with my taste issues after the no-no bug. I used to have to basically soak my food with salt after, but now I feel like I've regained probably most of my taste buds than before I started it.

Honestly, I'm an emotional person, and usually I don't like making a scene, but it can be hard to stop myself in the moment if I can't get away from the situation to diffuse. The girl in Story 2 saying "I'm fine, it's fine." probably means it, and might be trying to be apologetic because being an emotional person sucks sometimes, man! (Though I can't fully say on that last part because I didn't hear her say it, I'm basing that off my own experience.) Give people a little grace, ESPECIALLY if you don't know them.

I was annoyed that the server called the prom girl a crybaby. There are medical issues that can make crying for little or even No reason a possibility. The person crying probably hates it more than observers could even imagine. Getting attitude from people who don’t understand that it happens doesn’t help anyone. The fact that doctors don’t have a hope of fixing it-even if they tried (which they don’t)-makes the whole thing even more hopeless and makes it even harder to stop. Never mind when additional stress is involved.
With proms things being priced like mini-weddings, I thought maybe she only had a small amount of money left to cover going out to eat after her dance and could only afford the children’s meals.

No. She’s NTA. My son is a teacher and tutors in math. Not everyone can do that. She wants the best for her son. Her MIL is obviously educated, but I wouldn’t want a lawyer performing brain surgery, and a history major is not the best choice for a math tutor, unless she minored in math, and as an educated person myself, I would understand if my DIL wanted someone qualified tutoring my grandchild in something that is NOT my major. I wouldn’t even be offended. I’d understand it.

2nd story borhered me so much. When i got Covid i had no taste for months and it made eating anything such a horrible and depressing part of my day. There were only a few things that felt okay enough in my mouth that i could handle everything was a gross slimely tasteless mess. After months of it i feared i would never enjoy food again and everytime someone talked food it made me sad thinking how much i missed so food.
Thankfully i finally got most of my taste back so there arr foods in can enjoy again however my tongue is now super sensitive to spicy food. I LOVE SPICY. Now however even a little spice makes my tongue tinggle and the spicy stuff i really enjoyed makes my tongue actually hurt and i can't do it anymore. 😢
So to hear them say that about the girl who lost a lot her taste to covid makes me mad. It is bad enough that she can't enjoy food so much anymore then having to watch others enjoy but then to be told you can't order the only thing on the munu that would taste okay for you simply becuse it is on the wrong munu.
I swear some people just have no heart for others.

Phew! You're letting OP off easy for Story #1! The real person she was upset with was her mom. But instead of discussing it she decides to punish everyone else in the family. She *purposely* did not communicate it advance that she was not bringing a cake to her nephew's birthday. She knew that an expectation had been built and deliberately chose not to tell anyone in advance that she wasn't going to keep doing it. It 100% *is* her fault that her nephew was cakeless for his birthday, and if we're honest, that is absolutely what she intended to happen! She is an AH. Don't punish kids for mistakes their parents make

I think ESH, she’s TA for the reasons you listed but the rest of the family aren’t much better. Anyone could have communicated but didn’t. The victim in this is the little kid and it’s really all of the adults fault that the kid ended up without a cake.
