    My best seller is a shot of the Northern Lights in Canada and I believe it is because it has a lot of room for copy, and is a little bit different looking than some of the other photos on stock sights that are about Northern lights. And about half of my sales come from random editorial photos I have shot while traveling, then probably followed by shots of food. Most of the photos I take that I really like a lot personally rarely sell (Mostly landscapes) The stock world is very odd but I'm starting to understand it more, and this year I am trying to focus on more conceptual photos and vectors. Keep up the good work, always look forward to your stock updates!

      Bored Nomad - thanks for sharing! :) Let us know how things for with your vectors! We know nothing about them, how to create them, or anything of the like! Really curious how they compare to photos/ videos - in sales, as well in ease of creation/ the amount of time it takes! Keep us posted. Cheers to having a successful 2020!

    something what might be worth mentioning is extended liscenses etc. I'm not sure if you have those for editorial?. sometimes you get that kind of sale on a photo and get like 20-80 dollars or maybe even more. I'm talking about shutterstock and adobe stock here. Sometimes also on pond5 Lcc liscenese its called there i believe. Ofcourse this happens a lot on alamy but sales are rare on alamy :P

    • @jdandkylestock3482
      @jdandkylestock3482  4 роки тому +1

      Do you have to designate your editorial/ commercial work for extended licenses? Or does it already do that by default? We hadn't looked into that much before!

    • @charlottesplayground1096
      @charlottesplayground1096 4 роки тому +2

      @@jdandkylestock3482 i dont know if you can sell a editorial image under an extended liscense. Its turned on on most agencies by default. but those sales are quite rare. i get them now almost every month but i have like 5500 photos now. Its not like i get 10 of them in a month:P but more like 1

      Ahhhh good to hear! Always curious to see how folks with bigger portfolios compare in monthly earnings compared to our smaller one! :) Do you mind if we ask what your averages look like (you don't have to answer if you don't want to!) :)

      @@jdandkylestock3482 Its hard to tell but i would say between 150-350 dollars a month. more likely 200 most of the times i gues. It just differs so much and you need to get the pay out limit first. But if i would have to look further i have expenses for new gear, travel, etc. i would probbebly have earned nothing :p Its not really a lucrative business:p

      @@jdandkylestock3482 well maybe it could be if you shoot all the lucrative stuff but that will include working together with a lot of poeple and having all the model and proprty releases for it. youll probbebly have to get into a lot business concepts. i dont know i just like visiting animal zoo's and beautiful and fun places. its nice to earn some extra cash and cover the costs:P

    January is going well after an awful month in December. I'm reading some contributors are finding January to be really slow while for other contributors really good.

      @@jdandkylestock3482 i have way more commercial photo's but for instance i photographed and also made a lot of video's of the LGBT pride in antwerp and a sale of those files is very rare. my best editorials are probbebly landmarks in big cities. But my commercial photos tend to get more sales per photo. BTW comparing the editorial lgbt to the commercial photos i took of my self. they are also LGBT and they sell everymonth. i can't tell you what is better its different for for everybody some poeple really do great on editorial and choose that route. For me commercial works better but i also do editorial when i see the chance and feel like it.

      @@jdandkylestock3482 BTW i don't think in editorial and commercial i just shoot what i like or things that might seem to have high value. sometimes those files are editorial and most times commercial. I always try to submit files as commercial but when it has to many logo's, is about a certain brand, store, got poeple in it, famous landmark, etc i just submit them as editorial.

    Thanks for another good video guys.... I mostly have commercial photos in my portfolio hence for me commercial photos have sold better. However, editorial photos of office buildings have sold multiple times too. While I earned $4.60 on a single sale of commercial photo the editorials have earned me just $0.25 each time....... I know of a girl 'Nicole Glass' (you may easily find her on google) earns a living from photography and has more than 90% editorial photos in her portfolio. In short best to click whatever you can capture the best...... Btw I hope that your sales too are back to normal now as I have noticed jump in sales compared to December 2019... Cheers!

      Great questions G G! Video sales are definitely preferable. And no, this is not our main source of income (We're primarily wedding photographers). It was a fun side project. We started this more of an experiment to see if we could generate anything from stock. Definitely learned a lot over this past year. Picked up a lot of shortcuts as well and can get our work posted much faster than when we first started!
