I am a welder by trade and have been welding over 20 years. I think you did an outstanding job on this. You were not scared to try this yourself. You should not run a bead on sheetmetal anyway because it will warp. Tacking it like you did was correct.Again nice job.
Muscle Man Mitch hey, appreciate the positive feedback. You know how it is, can’t afford to pay a body shop gotta figure it out. My older Brother is a certified welder, too, so in between razzing me he has shown me some tricks of the trade. We’ll see if in the spring my sealing and coating the underside holds up.
The secret is Galvanized sheet metal , yep I know no rolls in metal but it last much longer then mild steel, but you got it welded solid, good job! If the automakers used Galvanized metal we wouldn't have rust as much! Zinc the other good mineral!!
The problem with galvanized is welding it. You can get pretty severe poisoning from the fumes. So there are no patch panels made with that. The factories do have galvanizing processes they use, but not in the aftermarket.
@@rockymtnredneck4888ever so true with fumes, I use a fan when welding it, blowing away only tack welds at most, before I knew in welding class I took a wife of it, made me cough years ago then the teacher told me about it lol, go figure.
Ya know I was sitting here months ago Thinking wow there is no 96 - 05' blazer parts for this job ...I wonder if the older ones would somewhat fit ..lol My body mount post to the floor is broken and collapsed on my 05' And it has a 2.5 in lift So the alignment for the last 5 years since i got it has always been off The rims are also -19mm offset When you add in all the factors She pulls to the left And has slop in the steering .....So thanks on posting this I have a mini welder And been in prepping/minor bodywork for a number of years ..Liked and subbed !
Yeah, it was frustrating me trying to find the parts, so I decided to look at the square body S10s. Yep. GM engineers saved time and money by just reskinning the truck. Everything else is practically identical.
Man built it, man can fix it (if he has the desire to). You did a great job given the lack of space and experience, that looks like a solid job. Thanks for sharing your experience with those of us who have the "will to fix it". Got a 92 Dakota I have to replace the drivers side floor pan, your video was full of helpful tips, thank you. Cheers!
You’re most welcome. This kind of thing is exactly what got me into doing YT vids. I had to figure this odd reality out on my own; no other vids posted anywhere, no posts in the vaunted forums, nothing showed that this is how it’s done.
@@pseudodotcom nope. I can’t stand the YT offerings for creators. Several years back I found some copyright free artists on a website. A year ago or so some of them started getting copyright claimed. So I stopped doing music in my vids at all. Same reason I don’t do demos of my stereo builds.
As the hack n pack shop would say ( Rust)! A few occasions that round upper area is rust too, in my personal indevours would be: to cut out the old rusted best as possible and use an inner fender pieces to cover it ! Nope can not mig weld it to thin, maybe tig if u got one/ good ol self tappers and pop revits work for what it is, when I was kid I seen roads signs missing huh must had a hole in the floor boards lol, as long it keeps the mud off mom's legs it's good !

As we completed the restoration of the exterior of my 89 S10 on July 4th, we discovered rust breaking through in the exact same area as on your vehicle. So I'm just about to order the floor replacement panels & mounting brackets from LMC Truck. For those who have been asking, they have them in stock, however, 2 of the brackets are shown as Out of Stock, but have been back ordered, and another is shown as Out of Stock and not back ordered. But, you may be able to find them through GMC. All the pieces total $270, don't know if you can just order the 2 panels for the drive side or not. I asked my body tech why we couldn't just cut out the bad section on the driver side, and weld it in 'top down' just like you did. But, he insisted we need to completely replace all the floor panels, on both sides (there are 4 separate pieces) and that we needed to completely remove the cabin from the truck, stating that the 'frame was in the way' and that the floor panels were part of the structural integrity of the truck. This sounded like over-kill to me having had to fiberglass the floor panels on my 240Z unibody 'rust bucket' decades ago. I definitely don't want to have to remove the cabin... do you think any structural strength/integrity is compromised at all, patching in a replacement floor panel on the driver side of my truck ? Sort of a rhetorical question, as you obviously don't think so having done just that to yours. I was just looking for reassurance... hoping like you to avoid paying professionals thousands, while the way you did it only cost hundreds. Thx so much for this video.
This many years later? I don’t remember….and would the source still have them? Check the usual suspects: Summit Racing, Jegs, LMC Trucks, and if you had to amazon.
Have you tried all the usual suspects? Summit Racing, LMC Truck, eBay Motors, even *gasp* Amazon? Remember search for the 82-93 S10 pan. They don’t lost them for the 94 and up.
This is great video and nice job! I'm about to get my driver side floor pan replaced as well. It is equally rotting out like your truck and probably a little worse. I learned alot especially about matching floor pans to the 1st gen s10. Typical that GM would do this to save cost when constructing the next generation. They did it also with the F-body cars as the floor pans matched from the 3rd gens to the 4th gens. That large plug you were mentioning is for the shifter cable for automatic transmission trucks. I just did a comparison to my 96 s10 (auto) and that's where the cable goes through, so since your truck is manual, GM just blocked it off with that plug.
I'll second that! Can you explain what you mean by "cut the base of the bung?" I've fought so many of those things I'll feel pretty silly if there is an easier way!
Floor pan plugs in some models they were used to drain bath dipped primer during the bare metal coating process at the assembly plant....Ford was the first to use the body dip process back in the 60s
I need to know as well but from what I’ve gathered no. They don’t seem to make floor pan replacements for second gen s10’s :( everyone I’ve spoke to says to go to the junkyard and cut one out of a non rusted second gen

@@regaltouchdetailing3887 just a Lincoln MigPak 115 on 220V with .030 wire and C25 gas. Nothing special.

The “body plug” is for a cable. Maybe the foot brake idk exactly. I’m in the process of doing this repair myself. Glad I stumbled upon your video. 👍
That makes sense. It's the same size as the plug for my Suburban's auto-transmission shift cable. After you point it out it's so clear.
Thank you for showing so much detail and showing that it is possible to replace with a different year. two thumbs up!

The floor mount seat belt bolt is a lock nut style. If you cut the base of the bung they come right out with ease.
j bailey really? Are the full size trucks the same? Did I just brute force them out? I would love to see a vid showing what you’re explaining.
Mine was well rusted in there. I used a breaker bar and broke my torx bit right off. I used acetylene and heated the thing up until is squealed out.

Since 2002. Picked it up with only 40,000 miles on the odo.
That's the worst spot on these trucks

is a 1994 S10 floor pan same for 2000 S10? And will a 1993 floor pan fit?
