I don't have kids, and I don't have ketchup. But my two indoor long-haired cats more than make up for the destruction. I have two mid-century chairs originally upholstered in a (gorgeous) orange slubby shantung-like fabric. I've wanted to reupholster them, but didn't know what fabric would stand up to the cats. Now I have some awesome ideas. Thank you soooo much! :)
I can't thank you enough for this video in particular and all the knowledge and experience you're sharing in your video collection. Plus they're just so enjoyable to watch. Thank you!
Best fabric for commercial truck seats is wool. Cool in the Summer ..Warm in Winter. Really appreciated when spending ten hours a day in the seat. Miss Aimee !! So good to see you again! I found these two videos very informative . The way they’re going to help me is this way. I ve been wanting to build some dressers and nightstands but instead of finishing the with lacquer or varnish ,I thought to rap them with fabric!! And you’re info on the backing for the different types is very helpful!! I’ll have to watch the videos again and take notes!😉 like a real student! 🤪
WELL, Hello Amy! What’s a surprise to see you again so soon and how nice of you to drop-in 😂😂😂 It couldn’t be a better time. At the moment , am reupholstering two footstools. Your video/advices are re-enforcing my choices of fabrics. We are on the same page LOL Stop by anytime 🥰 PS. We are miles and miles apart but in the same room at the touch of a button... how cool is that🤗😁
Yes...I thought these two should be lumped together while I had momentum. Otherwise, I get too wrapped up in actual work! 🤣 I’m glad we are on the same page!
After some work on my piece, I would say instead of ketchup to test, it should be blood. Luckily I had the hydrogen peroxide handy after bleeding on it a few times.
Hey Aimee, I've been studying the designer William Morris, I've always loved his patterns, and his furniture designs. Top Fabric with his patterns on are expensive but I think it adds to the piece of furniture. Who's your favourite designer?
Thank you so much for this video. Since I get fabric at discount stores, I can't see the content or if it's residential or commercial quality so doing tests on it will really give me more confidence, I'm now trying to get up the courage to try the pneumatic staple gun.
Go for it!! Once you make the switch you will wish you did it ages ago. It will make your work cleaner and so much faster!!! Just wear those safety specs!!
@@missiongravity I have very little experience. I've reupholstered a car seat, an ottoman and fixed a chair. Also some boat cushions but nothing with much stapling. I think I'm afraid of the big, noisy tools.
Hi Amiee, I enjoy your great tutorial videos, and you have a fantastic attitude. How did you get into the Upholstery business? Did you go to school for it? Did you work for someone else without any knowledge and picked up the trade after many years? Keep up the great work and videos!!
Thanks Steven. Yes, I went to a proper Trade school to learn upholstery, then worked in a high-end shop to gain experience. Teaching 4 people at once in my workshops got my speed way up. Practice, practice, practice! It’s the only way to get good at it.
I have a question about how to know which pieces get stapled on firsr. I took photos as I took it apart but when reupholstering, I added the seat first then the arm of the chaise. Then realized I should have done the arm first. Wondering if there are generalities on what to do first. It seemed the seats were being done first, then inside arms, then sides and last back. Do you number things or how do you know which to do first?
Hi Amy. I have a question. I have a headboard to reupholster for a customer. It'll be my 1st one. Do u have any tips or advice about framed upholstered headboards u could give please?
I have been watching your videos and trying to figure out why you look familiar. I figured it out. Watch The Terminal with Tom Hanks. His love interest is Katherine Zeta Jone. I think you look like her. Maybe her little sister? Love your videos. Could you talk about how you got into upholstery?
The only thing missing was no mention whether you used a damp cloth, a cloth with dishsoap, or a dry cloth on the ketchup! Would have been helpful to know.
Hello Aimee. Just a little question if you don't mind, but is there a specific type of upholstery foam that should be used for a computer chair. I have looked on ebay and Amazon, but reviews are mostly negative by people reporting don't buy this it goes flat very quick, or don't get that it loses it's springiness and shape after a short time. So what brand, density and firmness if any do you use, is there any type that you would recommend. Love your channel btw Stuart
For something like foam, I’d try to get it locally. Try to find an upholstery shop or foam shop to purchase from. I use high density, which takes longer to lose its density, but foam doesn’t last forever, and the more you use the chair, the faster it will bottom out (weight also affects it).
Now for the silly question ( you didn’t think I was gonna let you off with out one ,did you?) ok, did you throw an “F” bomb when you smashed your finger? I noticed you have a little purple spot under your finger nail!😬
Ps .. my son installed the Instagram app on my phone and I have become a follower of yours. I went and checked out you page and I was blown away from all the cool work you’ve done !!! But the cherry on the cake was the delivery vehicle!!! Man, THATS IS SO COOL!!!! You’re crazy!!!!!

Great video! Honestly this helped so much! Thank you!
What’s the name of that fabric you used for sofa that was already made, pinkish one. I was waiting whole video to find it out.
After some work on my piece, I would say instead of ketchup to test, it should be blood. Luckily I had the hydrogen peroxide handy after bleeding on it a few times.
Blood is easy, but only upholsterers and nurses seem to know the trick! 🤣
Just purchase my new first set of couches with polypropylene I’m
Excited to see how they come out
Wonderful wonderful video

The stapler, pancake compressor, hose, connection fitting and staples are all set up and I started. It really helps to watch your videos again.
@@suzanneseale9543 Congrats!!!
What fabric is on your sofa? I kept going back and trying to hear what you said but I missed. Could you please let me know? Thank you

I have 3 crazy cats that love scratching sofas. How does Sunbrella hold up? Polypropylene is the best? Thanks so much!
Hi, your upholstery stapler is no longer available. is any other that you recommend? Thanks
Thanks for letting me know! I searched, and this is the one I would buy: amzn.to/2TIfcXZ
Conheço o seu trabalho muito bonito
Obrigada! ❤️
Can anyone tell me the name of the video that shows "How to apply single piping to a dining chair" please?
What is that grey fabric that is “cat safe” on the ketchup test please? I need to re-do my dinning chairs as my cats destroyed the 8 of them :(
Great video!

That is the order I always do it in: seat, inside arms, inside back, outside arms and outside back.

Where can we buy these types of fabrics

Headboards are easy! You’ll have no problems
Hello good video , do you teach upholstery lessons? Where are you located?
I’m in Atlantic Canada, I’m not teaching during COVID restrictions
Thank you for answering my Question

That’s wood stain! I just can’t ever remember to put gloves on before refinishing wood. Stays on my nails for days 🤪
