Grand Funk Railroad was formed as a trio in 1969 by Mark Farner (guitar, keyboards, harmonica, vocals) and Don Brewer (drums, vocals) and Mel Schacher (bass)
GFR - my first concert - 1969. Raw power. Where’d they get the energy? Detroit. Lead and drums both 21 years old. Bass player was 18. At that time, no others in the group. That all came from those three. Seats were about 15 feet from the speakers. My ears are still ringing and I love it.

Rock music came from the blues. Many bands still center their music around the old masters of jazz/blues. I was a rocker from 13 in 1968, so these guys were a part of my "playlist" back then. BTW loooved your reaction.
Grand Funk Railroad. 3 white boys from Detroit. I watched this video last year and my head blew up into a million pieces. Mind blowing energy. I am so glad you finally watching. They have a lot of hits. I was just too little to know who they were in the 70s. Good looking band: lead singer tight body and base player pretty face. This is great 70s block party live tribute band entertainment.
OMG Mr Video, great reaction. I was lucky enough to see them last year at the Tropicana in Atlantic City 2 days before the state was shut down for CoViD, I had a front row seat right smack in the middle of the stage. I have loved this group all my life and they did not dissapoint. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Any of the recommendations listed would be great for you to hear.
Everyone seems to forget Grand Funk's song "Paranoid." Black Sabbath of course did a song called "Paranoid" about the same time but they were completely different things. GFR's version can peel paint off the walls and take several years off your life expectancy - well worth it though. (No offense to Sabbath who is just about my favorite band.)
I've seen a lot of reactions to this video and they were all good, but your reaction was the best I've ever seen! I haven't read any comments but, yeah, Mark Farner (front man) Don Brewer (drums) and Mel Schacher (bass) were from Flint Michigan. The band was named after Grand Trunk Western Railroad. I saw the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on The Ed Sullivan Show, but, Grand Funk Railroad was my very first favorite band. Don and Mel tried to keep Mark from performing any GFR songs, trying to Shanghai him, but Mark eventually got his rights back, as far as I know. Mark wrote 99% of The Railroad's songs. All of his songs were about his journey, and finding himself doing christian related music. MARK Farner was the best! Thanks for your reaction video. Good stuff, man!
That hippie is named Mark Farner. I grew up idolizing Grand Funk. They deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

EDIT - It's kind of like an opera with all the different sections. The 100% best rendition (that I've heard recorded) was their breakout double-set "Grand Funk Live" release in front of a few different audiences, but I'm told up to 77,000 fans, with nary an error to be found.
Hehehehe!! Saw these guys in Detroit, 1971. Your reaction was priceless!!
December 2021! One year after first seeing your reaction. You are still my favorite reaction for my favorite video.
Mark is one of my neighbors and I know he would get the biggest kick out of your videos! Good job young man and keep on rocking!!!
Grand funk was lit. Check out American woman and locomotion. You'll dig both of them too. You the 🐐.
American Woman was The Guess Who.. from Canada..also great
I think you meant American Band
@@Kickstart500 lmao right haha.
Hey, you alright little brother.😎 I'm 64 year old white man and even though I've heard this when it came out in 69 when I was 13 you react the same as me. So funny 😂, so cool 😎 thanks man.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😎
Dam Mr. V,. You got so much energy. I can't see how your couch can survive. 🤯🤯🤯. 💞You
I've thought that same thing! Wanted to ask where he bought it because if it can hold up for him then my fat🍑, my hubby sleeping on it and 5 grandkids should all be fine!! Lol
Poor couch. Someone send him a new one please. He will need it!! 😆
If you're getting on the Grand Funk Railraod train, you gotta make a stop at "Some Kind of Wonderful" it's my personal fave GFR song.
Try their classic, "An American Band"
Got a check out their promo video for we’re an American band
I don't know where u came from or where yor headed , but out of all the reactors I've checked out, u r absolutely my favourite. NOBODY comes close to u. That I grew up in the yrs these songs were made makes it even better cuz I know what's coming next b4 u do. Yor hysterical, vital & quite enjoyable to watch. Others could learn from u. Thank u so much. Please stay safe as we're gonna need u for sure on the other side of all this shit the world is currently going thru.😷🤗🎸🎶🤣😊😳🤯🇨🇦
Me too. 63 year old white woman and LOVE this kid. He’s in my state, Ohio.
Saw them do this live in '70. Mark Farner's hair was almost to his waist by then...tight red pants...shirtless. Uh-huh, I remember that. Whew.
And LEO HONEY! You should know by now lots of white boys (& gals) out there with strong voices. Especially back in the day. We were groovin' to all kinds of blues & funk mixed in with our rock back in the late 60's & 70s.
And it was great!💙🌿💚☮✌
So proud to be born when I was as I got the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s music. I'm a hard rocking ĥeavy blues kinda gal! Great choice.
My dad doesn't appreciate GFR...I look at him like he's stupid every time. I agree with you, there's something wrong with you if you don't feel their music.
more Grand Funk 1) Black Licorice 2)The Railroad 3) Nothing is the Same 4)Flight of the Phoenix 5) Mean Mistrater 6) Footstompin’ Music 7) Creepin’ 8) People let’s stop the war 9) Inside... 10?? oops
Absolutely ❤ how you let these songs take a grip of you Leo 😅😅😅
I was fortunate enough to have met Mark Farner a few years ago at a meet and great after one of his shows. Super nice guy and i have a lot of respect for him. Great reation.
Grand Funk Railroad was formed as a trio in 1969 by Mark Farner (guitar, keyboards, harmonica, vocals) and Don Brewer (drums, vocals) and Mel Schacher (bass)
This is my first time hearing this, I like it. The guy got a lot of soul in his voice....🌹 Much love Mr.video 💋
Grand Funk Railroad was a band that would give it their all if there was only 1 person or a million in the audience.
sign of a true artist
GFR - my first concert - 1969. Raw power. Where’d they get the energy? Detroit.
Lead and drums both 21 years old. Bass player was 18.
At that time, no others in the group. That all came from those three.
Seats were about 15 feet from the speakers. My ears are still ringing and I love it.
"Nobody knows the band Grand Funk? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer? Oh, Man! - Homer Simpson, Homerpalooza Season 7 episode 24.
I never heard of this song or band before but I love this! WOW I'm blown away! Their voices are perfect!!!!!!!!!!
And Mark is HOT!!!
Right?
Believe it or not, these guys are Motown Records artists.
😍
Sorry to say this but Grand Funk were never signed to Motown. Most of their albums were released by Capitol Records. They did have a couple of albums released by different labels but never Motown.
True... they from(near) Detroit..but Gordy nevr signed em
@@LarsFunkRoad they are from Flint, Michigan. Their name is a play on the Grand Trunk Railroad that went through Michigan at the time. I'm originally from Detroit so I grew up listening to Grand Funk
@@jameskirschling7887 Thanks. I'm not that familiar with that "state up north" 🏈
Grand Funk Railroad got their name from the Grand Trunk Railroad that runs through Michigan which is where they are from. As a matter of fact they are from Flint which is about 40-50 miles north of Detroit. If u haven't listened to it yet listen to their song American band. The video was filmed on one of the band members uncles farm somewhere in Michigan. Very cool video that is really just a home movie. Can't get anymore real than that.
Now just imagine that there are some of us who grew up with parents who played music like THAT in our house. Can't wait for you to discover Uriah Heep.
Love ,love ,LOVE! Uriah Heep lady in black is one of my favorites
My parents were hippies. I was funkin out in diapers 😅My mom's gone but my 72 yr old dad is still rockin the long hair & listening to all the same music he did in the 60s & 70s.
Yes 30 days in the whole

Wish mine had.
Love your reaction.
Grandfunk Railroad this my favorite song of theirs
Thank you for whoever requested this for Leo‼️🔥❤️🎶💞💫💯
I agree. It's before my time but I'll definitely be listening to more
Haven't heard Grand Funk in many years, forgot how good they were. Thanks for the excellent memories. Saw them about 50 years ago.😎😎😎😎😎😎
I wish the 7 people who put a thumbs down on this video would come forward and explain themselves. If you can’t feel the great music and raw emotions in this song , there’s something wrong with you. I’ll wait........
I'll wait....why, thoughts replies welcome. Help me help you.😎😎
@@craiglee8574 LoL, I think you agree with me. If not, peace and love either way brother ✌️✌️☮️☮️💖💖
Real talk- facts!!✨
🤣😊🤣
There is now 13 and I agree, they got some explaining to do! I will wait with Ms. Nancy here for an explanation!......
They are fantastic. I have seen them 3 times and the concerts are rocking!! First time 1976
When a band and a man with same energy meet it's an instant like
Hands down the best reaction to this. I loved it. I laughed so hard. and yeah its so good.
A nickel bag back in the day was A half ounce. Green is 100 times better now ! This is my favorite Grand Funk Railroad tune !!! 💯🔥🎸🎼😎
Do you remember calling it a lid 😄🤘
Absolutely and measuring by your fingers lol😎
@@shoesagogo1
Host: How many joints are in a lid?
Bob: Two.
Host: Two?
Bob: Yeah, I roll big joints.
Host: The judges say that's OK, they roll big joints too!
Greatest of times 😂🤘🤘
Two finger or three finger.... then you sat and sifted the seeds and stems out. Man bud really is so much better now and I just go to the store especially when you have enough bonus points on the best killer bud. 😂👍✌
So glad you found this gem! This is Rock and Roll!!!!! In 1969, reefer was a no-no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"BAD TIME"
"MEAN MISTREATER"
"Closer To Home"
"Heartbreaker"
"Foot Stompin Music"
"Some Kind Of Wonderful"
"We're An American Band"
"Locomotion"
There isn't a bad GFR song but these are there pop radio songs. There best cuts are the deep tracks IMO. I'm just happy when they get attention. They are sooo underrated!
@@Chad_Sandridge75 I’m with you! Sins a Good Man’s Brother, In Need, and I Come Tumblin are my top favorites
@@Chad_Sandridge75 so true! The Railroad, Black Licorice, Shining On etc etc
@@bonniefaulconer2080
I forgot about "Shining On".
forgot 1.... "In Need"
Yeah, you're in the zone with them! I'm so happy you are experiencing Grand Funk Railroad! They have a lot of music, Please check out more.
This is one of my favorite bands, not talked about enough...so glad you found em!
The 70’s had it all musically, that’s the truth. There will never be another time like it. Play “American Band” song as well, you will recognize that one I’m sure.
GFR “ We’re an American Band” is the banger.
Also Skid Row “Monkey Business “
Yes
And throw some ccr in there
It ain't me I ain't no senators son
Oh hell yeah!
*Flint specifically. Sorry but I grew up there. One of the best things to come out of Flint. 😉👍
I grew up there, too. Was just about to add what you just said.
I Come Tumblin’ is almost as heavy and criminally underrated. That would be a great listen too. The drums are crazy on that song
Great song!
That’s the correct reaction.
