Dr Clayton is the rare MD who subscribes medicine as a last resort. His practice is grounded in science and emphasizes nutrition, activity and wellness. It works and I know. I’m 63 and have never been better. Thank you Dr. Clayton !

My high bp was largely anxiety. Doc didn’t believe me. I went to meditation and it helped a lot but yet when I got in the doctors office my first go around I was still nervous and I blew a 195/110. I tried to tell him about the anxiety and he didn’t believe it. So he had to leave the room briefly I took that Time to meditate, to do tapping techniques to relax myself, imaging and he came back in and threw on the cuff and I was 124/70

I am exactly the same. Anxiety and off goes my bp, right through the roof. Just started meditating, I exercise, do hill climbs. Infra red saunas 4 times a week and eat reallly well and intermittent fast BUT that anxiety is the one factor that gets me. So will do what this good Dr suggests and increase potassium and cut out salt, even though I use celtic salt.
I think doing that plus meditation, (Jo
      Dispenza) I will get results.
      Keep well.

The low sodium bread has 0mg of sodium per slice and the cinnamon bread has 65mg of sodium per slice of bread. Is this bread ok to eat on a low salt diet? Thank you in advance for all your help.

Thank you very much, Dr. Dave Clayton. I believe in everything you said. I have experienced this myself. Lowering sodium and increasing potassium to have a K/Na ratio of about 9 to 1 is the key, I think, to control the release of hormones such as renin, angiotensin, and aldosterone.

I'm 61 and struggled with high BP for 7 years. It is normal upon waking-high during day-usually normal late evening. I don't eat processed foods-whole foods organic mediterranean diet. No dairy. Ihave a garden. I'm normal BMI. I don't add salt to anything I'm cooking . only slightest amount of sodium at dinner table. I walk daily 2 Mile hilly walk and I do yoga/strength exercises. My BP is very high at docs office now--about 160-170 when I'm stressed-but even during thday it it can by 150-160 systolic -diastolic goes above 80 during the day as well, but not over low 90's. I am sedentary when I'm not exercising do to limited energy with fibromyalgia/neurological symptoms, but I exercise daily and also hike longer miles 1 or 2 times /week. I'm SUPER sensitive to medications and have a long history of this. I was taking carditone supplement but that's not helping. 7 years ago I tried lisinopril and it have me brain fog, fatigue. lower GI pain felt awful and still wasn't controlling bp during the day when I took at home it could be 140. Atenolol gave me horrible insomnia. 2 years ago propanolol and that gave me scary muscle weakness with first pill. In July I tried hydrochlorothiazide and it gave me frequent nigh waking with trips to bathroom and low sodium and low chloride, raised blood sugar and cholesterol. I was on it for 4 weeks. I also had increased heart palpitations. Just tried 5 weeks losaratan and got horrible fatigue and terrible sleep . My sleep cycle is really sensitive. TheBP meds help but they don't control it to 130/80. Still can be high. If I meditate for 10 minutes BP is normal . I'm at loss what to do. Doctor wants to try clonidine next? I read it raises blood sugar/cholesterol as well. worried about side effects. Primary mentioned bystolic. But the BP meds I've tried before still result in the super high readings at Dr. office and above target during the day at home. What does one do when you can't tolerate the BP meds and have done the lifestyle? I do eat whole gluten free grains-- and fruit, nuts, seeds, fish, chicken, tons of veg, flaxseeds, soymilk, salads, all kinds of veg and greens every day. I also eat eggs 2Xweek with tons of veggies.

I had similar problems and before I saw any of these videos discovered that taking potassium supplements and lowering my salt intake helped me to lower my bp dramatically. Never once did a doctor ever tell me to take potassium for my blood pressure. It should be an automatic first recommendation for all with high bp in my opinion, considering that the majority of people are potassium deficient. Unfortunately in the US they have put a very low limit on the amount of potassium that can be put into a supplement (I think 100mg which is nothing compared to the 3-4 grams we need). In many countries you can get 500mg potassium supplements over the counter. Everybody's body is different, so different things work for different bodies, so I wish you good luck and good health!

Hello Dr. Clayton. Sang Wang, now passed spoke and wrote a book on the need for a proper balance of Potassium & Sodium. 80/20 rule. He sold machines that made water more alkaline. Alkalife was his liquid drops product. Robert O Young had the Alkalarian approach. I met he and his wife in California at a big Health Expo back in the day. Now, you do not speak negatively about meat. Dr. Ken Berry tells women and men that they need meat for muscle and bone. “None” of the other gentlemen promoting the Carnivore way of eating say anything about being cautionary regarding salt. Some even say use it liberally to taste. Even the starch only doctor, John McDougall promotes using salt. Salt is needed for curing cheese, a process that goes way back in time. Dr. Sarno spoke to me and said he came to the realization in his research that humans are acid beings. I have learned that our blood acid/alkaline shifts throughout the day. It is not an accurate test to use when judging someone’s health. I did the all raw 24/7 way of eating in 2000 and beyond. I eventually adopted the Hallelujah Diet with preacher George Malkmus and family. The Plan B diet was introduced at a big training and that upset matters for the Malkmus family. Dr. Colin Campbell spoke up at a training and said we at least need to eat salmon. That also upset things. I have books on Alkaline living by many authors. Natural Hygiene and all its unhealthy proponents promoted fruit and vegetables. Thousands of people claim to be eating only meat water and salt to cure issues in their body. Many have reverted back to including fruit and vegetables. Most of us agree that food processors put stuff in that appears to be of no benefit. Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw now own a ranch. They were on national TV telling people not to worry about additives. People need to look at oils, as you say- crazy amounts of all kinds of processed sodium, fillers such as maltodextrin-used in Barley Green and other products, plants that have defensive chemicals naturally built in and now many are ranting about sugar, which poor Ray Peat felt was not so much a bad thing. Paul Saladino and Georgi Dinkov try to dispel untruths. Words: Alkaline-relating to body chemistry. Alkalize-to make an acidic environment more Alkaline. Alkalinizing is is a word used a lot also by people that sell the Alkaline water production machines. The alkalinity does not last but a few minutes. Mineral water is generally 8.5. The machine can go way above 12. No benefits. Just because we tend to be 7.3-7.45 at any given time does not make humans alkaline beings. I read in a web profile that you were writing a book on ancestral health. Have you read Shawn Baker’s material? Of course there is quite a bit of meat based information out there similar to the vegan and starch and Mediterranean diets and blue zone and 7 Day Adventism. I dislike twisted manipulated studies and misinformation. I am glad you have a searching open mind.

Dear Dr. Dave, although your very informative video was released more than two years ago, I’ve just stumbled upon it. I have been looking for a natural way to maintain normal Blood Pressure and your approach seems to be most natural and logical. However, upon combing through your viewer’s’ comments, there seems to be none concerning the rather high fructose content in the dates, raisins, apricots etc. Would it not contribute to insulin resistance or would their natural high fibre content counteract it? Thanking you in anticipation. Take Care & Stay Safe.

I find eating real food and hardly any carbs just makes me stuffed and I really need to force myself to eat a dinner..I usually just have an apple with salt free peanut butter and green tea. Help! It's a good point that you do need to eat a fair amount of vegetables to really increase your potassium intake. The good news is that green vegetables have very little calories so eating a lot doesn't add to your waistline. My go-to dish is broccoli roasted in olive oil - a pound of broccoli has only about 150 calories yet delivers almost 1500 mg of potassium! Hope this helps!
