Hans, your analogy of the watchmaker to the master chef was so enlightening, as well as your reminder of how many years of formal education it takes before a watchmaker can start to work out in the field, and that watchmakers are artists, not simply mechanics. When I finally purchase my dream watch, I want you to bless it for me!!!!!! What a delightful conversation!
Federico, keep doing these. Seriously, it's such valuable input and so interesting infos here and there from the guy like Hans and great to see that someone with his experience and skills is taking care about your watches. To be honest, I have never been a pre-owned watch guy, I mean, what I cannot afford on AD cost = I cannot afford. But you guys are the first time make me thinking otherway. For the first time I was going through some pre-owned dealer offerings and considering (btw. that Tudor chrono is really tempting). Not anymore looking on pre-owned watches with despect, but with respect (where deserved). So once again, thanks to you and Hans and I'm looking forward for the next epizode. Btw. one question: In one of your previous videos you answered on question ETA vs. Sellita => ETA all the way. Sellita to be better made on more modern machinery? Bullsh!t. etc. What Hans thinks of this, especially since for example Sinn is now Sellita all the way (and I always counted Sinn to be one of those "tough germans" you were talking about in todays show). Thanks. ;)
Dear Federico. Really love your vids. You really seem to have found your place and that transpires in what you do. Great content and vibe and the connection to your business is completely natural. Surround yourself with guys like Hans and you can't go wrong. The Q on German watch making is brilliant. Scratches way underneath the surface of things. Wish you the best of success! There's only one place where I'll buy my next quality piece.
I watched a video on someone who compared German vs Swiss Watch Makers. “The difference between the two are that the Swiss over complicate their watches while the Germans over complicate but do so with a purpose. Every move a German watch maker commits to is intentional and not just because they can” is what he said. Not sure if what he said is true or not but it’s something I remember when the topic ever comes up for me.
Great Q and A session. Just a heads up if anyone cares. The study that Hans mentioned did occur where the sick people who had someone praying for them improved faster. However, since that time the same study has been replicated numerous times and there has been no difference between the two groups. Therefore it appears that the power of prayer is not super helpful in treatment of disease. However, I'm sure it works wonders for watch making! The video was great and very informative.
Hans sounds exceedingly competent, but how do you get new replacement parts when servicing the various watches? What if your watch needs a new factory crystal or crown/pusher, bezel, etc? How do you source it?
Excellent Fed. I’m pretty good friends with my local watch maker and he would agree with Hans’ comments. Thanks for the comparison of German and Swiss watches also- interesting.
MainerInJapan thank you for watching. My line is made to customers specs different models are suggested and made all the time. All my creations are unique and do not repeat. Hence there is no need for a site exposing them. We only manufacture one piece per year approximately. Usually partially skeletonized exclusive custom made to clients wishes.
Like what i said years ago to my friends . Watch winders are useless , unless you enjoy servicing your watch more frequent , and they laughed at me . Now i feel a bit better thanks to this vid .
Swiss Watches Are Girly...hahaha...No they are not, not really. As a German, let me save the reputation of our Swiss neighbours. Another fun video with fine imformatin from you thanks a lot, good as always.
Ok so I don't know anyhting about watches but will be starting to collect. SO if no WatchWinders do I need to keep them in a controlled humidity cabinet like lenses for a DSLR?
Fed, if you didn't have Hans, and had to send your watches out for repair, would you fix your Seiko SJX009 if it breaks or need a service, or would you toss it in the scrap watch pile and just buy another?
I think, having a long standing relationship with a good independent watch maker is essential for a serious collector. Especially nowadays, as finding those gets harder and harder even in Switzerland. I'm lucky to have found one with a vast network of other watch makers, so he's able to source almost every spare part needed. Before I found him, I met several who I wouldn't even trust to work on a simple ETA 2824 straight from the assembly line ...
jaduboi thank you so much for supporting the show. I'm getting my own the creation GMT two tone movement. My brand is swissreserve. A happy New Year and all the best to you.
iimaniDAVID or use the quick setting on the perpetual. A complete overhaul for a QP buys you at least a winder. Just say'n... Thank you for watching the show.
Thanks Johann. I have the JLC Ultra master Thin Perpetual. If it stops, I first have to figure out if it stopped outside of the "danger window" (8pm to 2am) where no adjustments are to be made. So, wind it and see. Then if if it DID stop within the "danger window", let it run until out of the "danger window". Then I can quick set. Right? Are you saying I can quick set while in the "danger window" b/c the quickset lets me do that?
iimaniDAVID put in in handsetting mode and turn the hands to six AM / PM then quickset the watch. On QP's it is more important not to turn the hands backwards during the switch then it is to quickset. Either way at six or 18:00 you are fine. Thank you for watching the show.
Johann. You are the master watchman so I don't doubt you. However, I've never heard of a "hand setting" mode and the instruction manual doesn't mention one. The manual clearly states not to adjust the movement forward or backwards while in "danger mode". Is it possible the JLC has its own specific rules? Thx for taking the time out to answer my questions so quickly. That's pretty cool.
iimaniDAVID not really, they just want to avoid people setting the hands backwards. The movement itself moves the hands forward. Like I said the are too girly! Lol. You can't break any watch moving the hands forward. That is a fact. Move them to six (any six) and then you can you use the quick setting for all the QP calendar functions.
Dear Federico, I'll soon be graduating med school and want to buy a special piece which I will pass onto my son if I ever have one. I'm thinking of the Lange 1815 Up/Down with the pink gold case. Any thoughts or suggestions? Budget is 20K max. Cheers and great video! William
This is a really interesting, playful yet highly informative video. Good job guys. The exploration of cultural influences on design ethos, even between such close neighbors is really really fascinating.
Leiwand an Österreicher zu sehen ^^ Great video ;) Imo, I prefer German watches as well! Don’t get me wrong swiss watches are great as well but if money is no point I would always pick a Lange over a Patek 😎
DjCap233 also ich finde das auch super leiwand einen österreichischen Gast zu haben danke dass Sie sich die Zeit nehmen uns zu zu sehen. Ein gutes neues Jahr und viel Glück auf Wiedersehen.
Mr Hans Thank for the valueable info, I heared that ETAs came 4-5 grades and the high end watch companies uses the highest grade of it; is that true? Also special thanks to Federico Best regards, W.F
Thomas Cala I take the overseas any time over the royal oak. Since AP uses Schwarzenegger to endorse them automatically disqualifies them in my book. VC is a watchmakers watch. Since their conception they proofed unique and classy not bulcky and big. My five cents. Thank you for watching.
Hans and Fed you guys crammed more informative insight on topics from movements to winders and Swiss vs Germans than any video I can remember. I’m sure my fellow watch enthusiasts demand more Hans. Watchmaker opinions hold tremendous weight and should be heard much more and given considerably more respect for their knowledge.
This was a cool video. It's my first time seeing Hans. A"Tiny miracle" is the perfect description. Hans is the David Hasselhoff of watches! Wait Hans isnt German though😞
Loved this episode. Would just like to say.. The comparison to bring a chef... Sort of..I really take the same care flipping a burger, as I do making Buerre Blanc. They are equal.. Just like Hansi says. It's about integrity.
Xombiticus I don't hate much I this world... (Ignorance, racism and homophobia are exeptions.) I am Swiss trained and Japanese watchmaking is just not my cup of tea.
Thanks for the response Hans. I know nothing about watchmaking so I will continue to enjoy my Japanese watches. Mainly I was teasing Federico about his inability to appreciate Grand Seiko. :) I really enjoyed seeing you on the show and hope to see you again.
Old vid gravedig but it's like a car mechanic. After a while, Fiat or Ferrari, they're just machines. And turning X amount of flat rate hours per day breeds shortcuts and hack work. Nice to hear that Delray is quality over quantity, because something tells me if they were the other way around, they wouldn't have Hans.
we strive for perfection in all areas in horologi, perfekt polishing, perfekt look, perfekt sweep... and when it comes to the essential, time keeping, we should not care? i think thats a bit odd.
Mechanical watches gaining or loosing +/- 1 seconds a day are a wet dream and do not exist. Any person stating otherwise is a showoff and was never educated on this subject. I myself manufacture double chronometer reading mechanical watches which are the most accurate mechanical timepieces on this planet and still will never get to a reading of +/- 1 second per day. Simple laws of physics will not allow that.
Too much echo in the room Federico. Grrr....Let Hans talk. I think there is s difference between a watch maker and someone who services them. I'm taking online classes but I've never consider myself a watch maker.
I was just being silly, and sometimes i bomb doing it, sorry about that, the story about the fellow fixing the watch and eating a sandwich at the same time...i said the first thing on my mind
Hangin' with Hans is my new favorite segment of FTW.
...... Now looking for a new German watch to prove my manliness and impress Hans
hahaha, can't go wrong anywhere from Nomos to Lange
Junghans is the best.
Instablaster
I would love to see an episode where Hans breaks down the different movements and what his thoughts are on them.
I have a Glashutte Original and am looking at A Lange Sohne Saxonia moonphase as my next watch from Jomashop.
Brian Wristwatchfan thank you for watching the show and all the best.
This is why I love this channel. Great information!!
Probably the most entertaining and informative watch related video I've seen in a long time..
videos with Hans are just from another level !!!!! keep doing more pleeeeeeeeeaasseeee
The best Episode of FTW so far!
Hans is a super nice guy.
Hope to see him more in front of the camera.
Thank You! 👌
Hansy is one of the nicest guys out there. I am glad you liked the content.

MORE LIKE THIS! Watch-maker advice is surprisingly rare. They tend to see things very differently.
This was great. Would love to see him in more videos

robert schriek thank you for watching the show. Glad we could address some of your questions.
Just watched this old episode. Love watching and hearing it from the actual watchmaker! It does makes a difference!
a classic
The most interesting watch video I’ve watched in ages. Please do more from the Han’s watchmaker perspective.
More Federico & Hans , please!! greets from Holland
Michael van Opstal thank you for watching the show.
Already looking forward to the next instalment of Fed and Hans. Very entertaining lads👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁

I hope to make him a regular.
Great video! I loved the discussion.
Mike Lojko thank you for watching.
Absolutely fantastic video. More Hans please😁
Amazing, love these so much!!
Excellent Fed. I’m pretty good friends with my local watch maker and he would agree with Hans’ comments. Thanks for the comparison of German and Swiss watches also- interesting.
Very cool, we should compare answers with your local guy as well!
Now that was interesting! Great video.I would definitly give Hansmy watches for service if he was located in my country.
MikeRR84 thank you for watching.
Hans mentions his own line of watches. Is there anywhere that we can check them out online?
MainerInJapan thank you for watching. My line is made to customers specs different models are suggested and made all the time. All my creations are unique and do not repeat. Hence there is no need for a site exposing them. We only manufacture one piece per year approximately. Usually partially skeletonized exclusive custom made to clients wishes.
Like what i said years ago to my friends . Watch winders are useless , unless you enjoy servicing your watch more frequent , and they laughed at me . Now i feel a bit better thanks to this vid .
Great video, Fed. Wishing you much success in 2018!
Michael Breder thank you for watching. All the best. Spread the word.
Swiss Watches Are Girly...hahaha...No they are not, not really. As a German, let me save the reputation of our Swiss neighbours.
Another fun video with fine imformatin from you thanks a lot, good as always.
Hahahaha glad you enjoyed it!
Wow as a swiss citizen i admire your comment
Ok so I don't know anyhting about watches but will be starting to collect. SO if no WatchWinders do I need to keep them in a controlled humidity cabinet like lenses for a DSLR?
No need. Most watches are water resistant.
Thanks :)
Nice video!
Very interesting ! Good one Federico .
Thanks Mark.
Fed, if you didn't have Hans, and had to send your watches out for repair, would you fix your Seiko SJX009 if it breaks or need a service, or would you toss it in the scrap watch pile and just buy another?
Definitely just buy another...
Great vid - any content with Hans is good content.......@Hans: Frohe Weihnachten!
Andreas Huttenlocher thank you for watching und zusätzlich noch frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr.

these are great shows.
What watch is Hans wearing in the show?
jaduboi thank you so much for supporting the show. I'm getting my own the creation GMT two tone movement. My brand is swissreserve. A happy New Year and all the best to you.
No customary watch check?
"It's a little bit of girly watch making in Switzerland. Hahaha". mic drop!!!!! I love Hans. Would love to party with him!!!
So weird to see you in short sleeve polo when we are expecting snow tomorrow here in NYC...
Enjoy Fed!
the beauties of Miami
If you have an automatic perpetual calendar watch, you'll see the value in a winder very quickly.

William Henry great watch. You have outstanding taste. It will last for generations. Thank you for watching.
Johann Bauernfeind Thank you for your answer, it put a smile on my face :)
Great segment and please, next time, have Hans drinking Tequila while he answers these questions! OMG!
How could that one guy give this video a thumbs down. Great video!!
Cheers Bill, thanks for watching and commenting as usual ;)
Bill Cull it was TGV
This is a really interesting, playful yet highly informative video. Good job guys. The exploration of cultural influences on design ethos, even between such close neighbors is really really fascinating.

Mr Hans

Also special thanks to Federico
Best regards,
W.F
Otman Eid : yes they do. It’s chronometre grade, top grade, elabore’, basic grade.
Christopher JeffersonThank you
best regards,
Did he finish the sandwich?
I like the video before I even watch it. Fed, you're so cool.
Thank you buddy!
Not German but HUGE difference between VC Overseas and AP Royal Oak -- even the strap.
Thomas Cala I take the overseas any time over the royal oak. Since AP uses Schwarzenegger to endorse them automatically disqualifies them in my book. VC is a watchmakers watch. Since their conception they proofed unique and classy not bulcky and big. My five cents. Thank you for watching.

rumporridge1 thank you for watching and all the best.
He looks like a brother of Adam Savage from the Mythbusters.
Frantisek Kurcik consider myself a myth busters. Thank you for the compliment.
This was a cool video. It's my first time seeing Hans. A"Tiny miracle" is the perfect description. Hans is the David Hasselhoff of watches! Wait Hans isnt German though😞
Hans is the Falco of watches!
Alles klar Herr Watchmaker? :)
Alles klar Herr Watchmaker? :)
Loved this episode. Would just like to say.. The comparison to bring a chef... Sort of..I really take the same care flipping a burger, as I do making Buerre Blanc. They are equal.. Just like Hansi says. It's about integrity.
Great example tlcode. I am glad you liked the content!
Swiss watches ARE girly when compared to German watches. For example, compare a Sinn diver's watch to a Rolex equivalent.
Why is Hans wearing night vision goggles? ;)
He moonlights as an assassin...
I feel 40% better after watching this video.
Hans reminds me of Jurgen Klopp, which is awesome
Mark Smolenski ich liebe Fussball!
Cute couple.
Why thank you ;)
But the really important question: Does Hans hate Grand Seiko as much as you do Federico? :D
Hans is a legend
Absolutely
What a character damn 👏
Hans is a philosopher
Hans? Where's Franz? "We're here to pump up you girly men!"
Jason hahahhahaha my take from those books SNL I guess. Thanks for supporting us.
Was Hans confusing Capitalism for the division of labor? If not, then what economic system would be best for watchmaking?
Old vid gravedig but it's like a car mechanic. After a while, Fiat or Ferrari, they're just machines. And turning X amount of flat rate hours per day breeds shortcuts and hack work. I need the 40%
Is Hans still with you? He is the best!
Just get better, dont worry about my nonsensical statement
Too much echo in the room Federico. Grrr....Let Hans talk. I think there is s difference between a watch maker and someone who services them. I'm taking online classes but I've never consider myself a watch maker.
This was hilarious lol
Hans is the man.
It is just me, or does Hans look like Jurgen Klopp? YNWA.
Mitchel McCrystal I just said the same thing
I appreciate that. He is cool dude!
Love Fußball!
Shop talk at its best.
4:13 Deutschland! 👌
Love Hans!
I was just being silly, and sometimes i bomb doing it, sorry about that, the story about the fellow fixing the watch and eating a sandwich at the same time...i said the first thing on my mind
Greetings from germany😂💪🏻
David Pu. Guten Tag wünscht man auch. Alles Gute!
Yeah! Junkers baby!
