When Wilson said Lear had nothing to do with Sanford and Son, the interviewer could’ve pivoted and asked him what he thought about his one role in All in Family-pulling a gun on Archie. It was a powerful scene in which he and Cleavon Little were smart guys who were robbing homes because of their circumstances not because they were bad guys. Little’s character recognizes that Edith is a pure spirit and returns her jewelry to her before they leave. Did Wilson agree with the sentiments expressed in that scene?

I don't think the person interviewing him was the problem. It was Demond going way off topic. I don't understand why he had to say negative things about Sammy Davis jr or talk about his own military service. It had nothing to do with why he was there.
@@Jonathan-pp3du Demond was speaking about those times. During that time Sammy was a big supporter of President Nixon and black people considered him a sellout. So coming from that I could see why Demond would not want him on Sanford and Son at that time.
What was Scripps News thinking?? Why on earth would they choose Demond Wilson for this interview? I'm sure everything he said about himself, and his experience was true, only one problem; It had nothing to do with Norman Lear.

Norman Lear was vital for this country to grow up he showed this country how to be tolerant and how to get along and coexist together and there's no greater legacy you could wish to have for anyone
These shows take me back to when I was young, sitting with my beloved granny (r.i.p.), watching all of these sitcoms. I didn't understand a lot of the jokes, ( I was a kid, ) or things that were said and she didn't explain them, "you're too young, you don't need to know what that means", she'd say. But they were good and the greatest memories of my childhood. Thank you, Mr. Lear. Rest in Eternal Peace.
Norman Lear's shows were a breakthrough and a reflection of our society that I wish television today had the BALLS to discuss! His shows encouraged conversations and dialogue as opposed to the garbage that we see today that is based on a lack of originality and that is manufactured to sell products!
Very good Demond! It was nice to see you again. And I'm sure glad Rollo was not around to get you in trouble. Yes, Norman Lear's connection to "Sanford and Son" was tenuous, but if he had not broken barriers, there would have been no show. Sammy was past his prime, but my parents saw him 10 years after that, and as trumpeter Jack Sheldon used to say, Sammy Davis Jr. was the greatest performer ever - for a long, long time.
Fun fact: Michael Jackson, who is considered the biggest selling recording artist in the history of popular music and the greatest entertainer of all time, was a good friend of Sammy Davis Jr's. Sammy even considered him a son of his, saying, “Michael Jackson is more than a friend, He's like a son."
I found Desmond to sound bitter despite the successful career he has enjoyed as an actor in a highly competitive field of talented actors. His negative, post Vietnam experience certainly painful and deserves acknowledgment. But Norman Lears' shows allowed us (Black people) to say it like it is out loud on TV. "Step Toe and Son" wasn't written about a. Black man, but transitioned beautifully on "Sanford and Son" , because doors were opened by successful Lear productions. We need those kind of sitcoms today!
Firstly his name is Demond, not Desmond. Secondly, black veterans of the Vietnam era were subjected to the harsh racism of the country at that time. I’m sure with whatever traumatic things he may have seen over there, along with the disparities of being a black veteran had it effects on him. As being a combat vet myself, I could only imagine the stress and pain he probably suffered as a man of his age now. From what I gathered, Norman wasn’t as hands on with some of his shows as perceived. I would be “bitter” too, if someone was credited with having a hand in my success, even though he was slightly present. Mr Demond Wilson earned his stripes and should be celebrated as an TV icon
@@edouble30083 yeah but I think his negativity is a part of his personality, Vietnam experience of not. You can see it’s just the way he is. And a bit self centered like disgruntled people often are.

Look at Eric Monte’s interview.
He’s the REAL creator of
“Good Times”.
The truth hurts!!! Don't it!
Wilson seems bitter. Sorry to say, folks
BusterG-ov2wb:. Really the only reason I clicked on this video was because they were talking to Demond Wilson. I wanted to see what he looked like these days. He looked good and sounded good. This video only made me want to hear what Demond really wants to say. I will have to search UA-cam to see if he has been on anyone's podcast.
Bitter? No, he's very serious about his Faith and comes off unhappy. He's involved in Prison ministry and other pursuits.
Love it or hate it, Desmond is the same no matter who interview him. Gotta respect it!
All In The Family allowed me to laugh at their antics and opened communication with my parents. In fact, it was instrumental in changing my dad’s mind about issues we would not have been able to discuss.
Like what issues? That you wanted to marry a black dude?
😂😮😅😮😊@@carlitosortiz2870
Interviewer to director: “You set me up!”🤬
Demond: “best do your homework first before you call me!” 🧐
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He looks amazing
They interviewed someone who was honest...instead of someone who was a fan. Norman was an opportunist.
The interviewer had NO idea WHO he was interviewing!
Gotta love a man who disparages the guy who is the only reason you’ve even heard of him. Stay classy!
My Deepest Condolences goes to Norman and family and friends 😢😢
Where do they keep The Scripts?
Do you know how many Black people were robbed by Norman Lear's greed. Please.
Norman was a thief
demond isn't playing the straight man anymore. more power to him. i grew up on lear's tv shows and didn't know he died until a couple of hours ago. i'm a fan. thanks for the discussion and having demond on.
I agree the interviewer could have directed the conversation more toward the theme of Norm Lear. Also, it would have been good to review to he questions and answers beforehand, if that had not already been done. It probably would have been more beneficial to have a guest who had more of an intertwining with Mr. Lear as well. However, his allowing Mr. Wilson to answer questions according to his own experience, even going off on a slight tangent at times, yielded an eye-opening, enjoyable interview that we might not have otherwise gotten. Many condolences to the Lear family.
Thanks for the synopsis. I missed that episode. Great question. The interviewer was probably too dumbfounded by Demond's answer to his question.
@@Kdija89 I agree. There’s another great episode that doesn’t involve Wilson but Ron Glass in Everybody Tells the Truth in which a refrigerator repairman brings along a Black apprentice-Glass-and Archie, Mike, Edith and Gloria all have different recollections of how it went down. Powerful stuff.
@@Kdija89 To be quite honest, so was I 😄.
I loved Edith Bunker, such a beautiful human being. It was hard not to like her.
He the truth good to see he Sanford and son One of the best still watch reruns today .He just saying the truth ❤
Very refreshing and candid remarks.👍🏾
This world needs more souls like demond Wilson!!! I love his honesty.
@jeromehall Demond has a lot of issues, he's very bitter. The idea that this bitter old grouchy man is a pastor is amusing.
In spite of his challenges… we people of good taste and common sense, salute Mr. Norman Lear…. We can take nothing but positive vibes from his presence in this timeline…. Long live the Republic! Boycott the Super Bowl!
❤😮😮😮🎉THE TRUTH,SOME TIMES IS SHOCKING, AND BRUTAL!!✔
Good to hear your voice again Demond.
Sanford and Son is my all time favorite show and I love Demond. However, this wasn’t the right person for this interview. Obviously.
I don't think the person interviewing him was the problem. It was Demond going way off topic. I don't understand why he had to say negative things about Sammy Davis jr or talk about his own military service. It had nothing to do with why he was there.
Desmond was a nightmare to work with, ask anybody it was not an industry secret.😮
@@Jonathan-pp3du Demond was speaking about those times. During that time Sammy was a big supporter of President Nixon and black people considered him a sellout. So coming from that I could see why Demond would not want him on Sanford and Son at that time.
@@beaujac311Sammy did buck dance
What was Scripps News thinking?? Why on earth would they choose Demond Wilson for this interview? I'm sure everything he said about himself, and his experience was true, only one problem; It had nothing to do with Norman Lear.
You profited from the show. God Bless America and thank you for your service.
Norman Lear said All In The Family was based on his own life . Rob Reiner portrayed Norman and Norman's father actually called him Meathead .
This dude doing the interview really didn't do his homework.
Eric Monte co-created “Good Times” with Mike Evans, as well as the characters of George and Louise for “The Jeffersons.”
They had The Fincinal backing of Norman Lear
Norman Lear was The Actually boss according to John Amos he's the one who fired John Amos from Good Times Norman Lear Created The Jeffersons from All in The Family Eric Admitted they needed Norman Lear Norman Lear was really in Charge running those shows hiring and Firing

Norman Lear was a legend.
Norman Lear was vital for this country to grow up he showed this country how to be tolerant and how to get along and coexist together and there's no greater legacy you could wish to have for anyone
America didn't NEED this. For entertainment yes just like any other entertainment, but c'mon with that other mumble jumble...lol
Are you kidding me? This was the acceleration of the now degenerate society that we are currently witnessing.
I did the same. I miss those times
Norman Lear's shows were a breakthrough and a reflection of our society that I wish television today had the BALLS to discuss!
His shows encouraged conversations and dialogue as opposed to the garbage that we see today that is based on a lack of originality and that is manufactured to sell products!
I enjoyed this interview and learned a lot about Demond Wilson. He still looks good.
A respectable story teller I have known very little about until now.
Whoa. I don’t think they were expecting Mr. Demond Wilson to give this type of interview. Very good!
YAAAAAY DEMOND.WILSON GOOD TO SEE HIM HERE‼️
I found Desmond to sound bitter despite the successful career he has enjoyed as an actor in a highly competitive field of talented actors.
@@d2d2d28 how would you know his personality? Have you been around him and interacted with him to say that he has a negative personality? How would you know that how he is, if you never spent time with him had have had conversations and experiences to deduce negativity? Interviews on UA-cam isn’t a good judge of character.
@@edouble30083 anyone can see his negativity- he wears it like a cloak. It’s obvious.
@@d2d2d28 as I said before, he been through a lot during his time on this earth. Some people are better masking their pain than others, but who are we to say that a person’s bitter and negative having not walked a mile in his shoes? We all have our crosses to bear, and shouldn’t be judged how we carry them
Not to tarnish the late Norman Lear Screenwriter and producer of so many classic tv shows 📺 from the 1970s time period, one is my all time favorite “Good Times “👏🏽 I just want and stated for the ones that’s unaware the real 🐐Writer and creditor for Good Times, The Jefferson’s and Movie Cooley High is Mr. Eric Monte which is a black man that stated Norman stole his ideas for these shows, a lawsuit also took place. All the information, facts on the internet, may he rip 🕊️💪🏾🙏🏽
Absolutely 🎯 💯 🎯, I concur 👍
