I love the #shorts questions answered quickly and informatively
Yes!!! I'm in love with these vids! Well tbh I could listen to her for hours, I love her voice
Hi can I use first micellar water to remove sunscreen to be followed by foaming cleanser ? Thanks
@@ear0381 yes
Double cleansing is one of the few things that drastically improved my skin and actually made a huge long-term difference !!! It helped so much with my skin texture(helped decrease my closed comedones ) and made my dull skin so much smoother and brighter!!! It also helps with sebaceous filaments.
I use the Klairs gentle fresh cleansing oil. It's so easy to wash off and doesn't break out my oily skin. It's amazing.
Oh, that's amazing. But are You doing double cleanse everyday? I mean, if You don't wear makeup ir sunscreen?
@@victoriahood324 yes, everyday. I don't wear makeup and I barely go outside so I don't wear sunscreen everyday. I've been double cleansing every night for more than 2 months. (except for 2 or 3 days where I was so tired and lazy lol).
@@sara.m88 thank you for The answer! I didn't know it
Thank You for this feedback! Finally, someone who dbl cleanses AND has oily skin AND mentions closed comedones AND shares a specific cleanser that works for you. May I ask what is your second cleanser? And do you use a treatment cleanser at all with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?
@@lindanicholas8622 I use the Cosrx low ph cleanser. It's amazing but I might try something more gentle cause it's a bit drying especially in the winter.

The cleansing balm I use is from Good Molecules, it is $15 and SO SO good!! If anyone is thinking of trying cleansing balm for 1st cleanse, I would HIGHLY recommend this one. Just try it and you will probably never go back to 1 step cleanse
cool thanks
Does good molecules have a detectable fragrance? I love Clinique take the day off cleansing balm but it is $34. A cheaper version would be better. Where do you buy Good Molecules? Also I’d love to try the paulas choice omega cleansing balm.
Yesss!!!! Bought it for the first time a few months ago and it’s AMAZING. It might just start being my go-to cleansing balm instead of the highly priced Clinique one 👀
So glad you used items I have personally tried and can buy from my local drugstore or Ulta/Sephora. Sephora has really upped their sample game making it easier to find our own holy grails.
I am so curious! Dr Dray have you ever been the type that went out in the sun without spf at a younger age or have you always protected yourself? . You have not one wrinkle or any kind of damaged skin.

Hi can I use first micellar water to remove sunscreen to be followed by foaming cleanser ? Thanks
Now what if I didn’t have makeup or sunscreen on at all, can I still double cleanse?

Inkey list cleansing balm actually broke me out! Did anybody else have this experience, if so, do you know happened or which ingredient caused it? And yes, I followed with a foaming cleansing after and I’m very thorough. I also use retin a nightly, moisturize, then apply Vaseline wherever I have peeling skin.
I used the inkey list cleansing balm and while it didn’t break me out I didn’t like the grainy texture. It actually hurt my face so I used it for my heels on my feet.

Where did you get some make up from?
instead of cleansing oil/cleansing balm can you use micellar water as the first step followed by a gentle cleanser?
Yes :)
Yes depending on how easily your makeup or sunscreen removes..how strong is ur cleanser..etc theres no one right fit for everyoneeeeeee and how their skin react
I have super oily acne prone skin and don't wear make up,only waterproof sunscreen , micellar water works great for me , since I started using double cleaning I've seen fewer breakouts
Any micellaw water is fine ? Which brand is better to remove sunscreen ?
You can use micellar water, but Dr. Dray says she recommends oil cleansing instead because it's best suited for all skin types, doesn't require harsh rubbing of skin, and doesn't leave residue that other products might.
Will you please recommend a cleansing oil for acne prone skin .
Can I use olive oil?
I need to start doing this. Anyone have recs for the oil cleaner?
For some reason I cannot seem to use oil cleaners without getting it in my eyes 😅 is it just me? 🙈
I use my gentle foaming cleanser twice... someone please tell me that's okay. I can't stand oil on my skin
Hi, is balm to milk a tecnique? Or is it a product?, I see so many people talking about it, but not a definitive point. Thank you
Is this oat cleanser supposed to be grainy? Plus it doesnt go away with water actually.
Do I have to double cleanse twice a day?
Hi gorgeous can I use first micellar water to remove sunscreen to be followed by foaming cleanser ? Thanks
Dr Dray! It would be great if you could do a review on Clinique 100h moisture surge? I have eczema-prone skin as well as recovering from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
She's not a derm but No BS Beauty has reviewed this one. Dr Dray has reviewed the 72hr one and didn't care for it.
Is milk cleansing okay for double cleansing?
I use the neutrogena body oil as my first step in my face...its awesome, cheap and lasts forever lol
Body oil. So it's kinda oily.?
Which oil based balm would you recommend for super acne prone skinn? Or would you recommend micellar water more ?
Double cleanse queen
Do you rinse after step 1? 😅
Im just use sunscreen in my daily. My skin always dryed cuz double cleansing 😅, im use oil cleansing 1st, and then following the gentle cleanser cerave hydration cleanser. The question is , should dry skin have double cleanse everyday? :/
Is double cleansing necessary for people who don't use makeup??
Do you wipe off your first cleanser Before second cleanse? I seem to get milia if I use an oily cleanser. My skin is dry and sensitive, any recommendations for the double cleansers?
What is best oil cleanser for combination skin oily t zone
is it ok if i use the same cleanser twice? for example, cera ve’s foaming facial cleanser for normal to oily skin.
Double cleansing, I use the same cleanser twice. Never caused any problems.
Does this work on oily skin?
can i just use extra virgin olive oil to oil cleanse
Should I apply the cleansing oil/balm to dry or wet skin? The instruction says damp skin but I hear a lot of people say dry skin. I’m confused please help
I need to know too 😩
Dry skin. Massage it in for a good minute or two, then rinse it off with water. You can choose to pat dry your face or not before the next step, but it’s up to you. Then cleanse with your regular cleanser how you normally would and rinse that off as well. Presto! You’re done :)
Dry skin. Cleansing balms & oils are meant to break up makeup, sunscreen, dirt & oil, when mixed with water, they will then emulsify. So it’s better to apply to dry skin, massage it in, wet it and message a little more then rinse and follow with a liquid (soap-type) cleanser.
Do you need to rinse off the oil cleanser before going in with your regular cleanser?
That's exactly what I want to know
Yes. You should rinse it off.
No, since oil and water don't mix with each other
You can’t rinse off oil, you can gently buff it off first with a washcloth or just go right in with the 2nd cleanser.
I remove it with a wet cotton pad, helps remove the balm/oil and makeup very easil
I use a cleansing oil by itself a lot. When I shave it helps prevent razor burn which I get really bad on my neck. I love HadaLabo oil in the yellow pump bottle. I think it has a surfactant because it washes off just like any cleanser and leave 0 residue
Do you: oil cleanse and wet your face with water and then use cleanser OR oil cleanse and put cleanser right after without using water?
So if I do not wear makeup or my sunscreen is not waterproof or water resistant I do not need a double cleanse is that right?
Actually a pretty good cleansing process. What about exfoliating though? Maybe first to scrub all that on top, then do this.
Should i double cleanse even if im not wearing makeup , just spf ?
Dr Dray does but not all derms agree about double cleansing. You can do it if you wish but you don't have to. At least one derm I follow recommends double cleansing when you wear water resistant sunscreen or makeup but otherwise she says cleansing once is fine.
❤️ your channel. I had acne and could get rid of my scars :)) I would love your thoughts about fully Ablative CO2 lasers...thank you!!! Xox
She addressed this in today's video.
Can you do this every day?
Yes. The oil based cleanser/balm is like a makeup remover which breaks everything down while the water based cleanser takes it off. Both products are gentle to the skin.
Can i double cleanse starting w micellar water?
Not sure if you saw and this is very late to the respond. If you still need to know someone in the comments above also asked and people responded. ✌
I only really do this if I’ve worn makeup, or if I put on spf. But days where I sit in the house and don’t go out I don’t bother.
I was expecting Dr. Dray would use CeraVe as her second step. I guess LRP is just as good as CeraVe?
The point is to use a gentle cleanser, yes CeraVe is one she's uses often but LaroshPosay is also a great gentle cleanser. I use LaroshPosay and really like it
My favorite is Vanicream. It’s pretty basic, but very gentle and gets the job done.
@@Lvmykidos2 Which vanicream do you use?
Can you just use a gentle cleanser twice ?
Yes you can. You can even use the cleanser first on dry skin first, and then the second cleanse using same product on wet skin. Or just do both on wet skin.
@@gtan307 I agree with you I read it through Paula's choice website as well .. and of course saves money too rather than buy two types of cleanser
It really defeats the purpose to use the gentle cleanser twice. The first step is to break up sunscreen and makeup etc. If you are not trying to remove makeup or a lot of sunscreen just cleanse with one step , your gentle cleanser.
I recently purchased it because I often see people talking about it but I’m having such a hard time using it. I was using E nature’s oil cleanser which worked wonders but it irritated my skin due to it being heavily fragranced and it had alcohol which dried me out a bit. This one however is hard to spread, you need quite a lot and I’m suspecting it’s me breaking out as well? It leaves like a film after washing it off which I did not expect and although I double cleanse, it doesn’t feel as clean as it did with my other oil cleanser...
I use Good Molecules instant cleansing balm, it has no fragrance, leaves no film, and I have acne prone skin it hasn't broke me out at all. Its $15, that's just what works for me
I use just a tiny bit of it and I find I don't need a lot. Maybe using too much??
@@Veronica-fc9td but it’s doesn’t spread when I use a tiny bit:( I expected it to be a coconut oil type of consistency but it stays buttery so it’s impossible to spread evenly.
should i still double cleanse even if i don't wear makeup ?
I would say nope unless you're trying get off your sunscreen
Can you use an oil cleanser as your only cleanser? I have dry skin
Oil cleansers has to be removed, it shouldn't stay on your skin. The oil cleanser is th first step it'd just to breakup heavy makeup and sunscreen that a gentle facial cleanser won't remove. Once you are done breaking it down then you come in with a gentle cleanser. I use vanicream, you won't get anymore gentle than vanicream.
So it would look like this:
1. Oil cleanser (I use hadalabo)
2. Wash it off it with a gentle cleanser (I use vanicream)
3. Moisturizer. Make sure u apply while face is still damp (I use vanicream lite lotion)
ACMkirby; I have dry skin too
1. Albolene
2. Olay cleanse gentle foaming cleanse(oil free)
3. Cetaphil rich hydrating cream
Work for me😊( night)
Thank you, Dr Dray!
🙋🏾♀️Does the cleansing oil or balm have to be specifically formulated as such, or can one use e.g. rosehip seed oil, for the first step?
wondering the same here 😞
Oils do work, apparently. I remember her mentioning it in one of her earlier videos. I sometimes use a body moisturizer or baby oil to 'loosen' layers of waterproof sunscreen in summer. It really does wash off then without drying the skin so much. Although I wouldn't say, that it cleans more effectively than just cleansing. Sometimes I still had to wash twice, to feel really clean afterwards. Which probably mostly negates the protective effect.
Personally, I prefer using a microfiber pad instead. But then my skin likes the gentle exfoliation, that provides.
Use an oil/ cleaning balm specifically formulated as such believe me, watch some derms or skin experts videos on here about double cleansing and you will see why. I would recommend Susan Yara channel
Oils can be used but a cleansing balm or cleansing oil is better because they are formulated with an emulsifier which helps that film bind to water and rinse off easily without much rubbing/tugging. :) (that’s why a cleansing oil turns milky white when you wet it!)
@@davidle3567 Thank you I knew this but didn't know how to explain it simply, Thanks!
What's Dr. Dray take on the effects of smoking chronic have on the skin?
Google it it's terrible
@@hayleylynnsinnett Weed has similar terrible effects on the skin
She has videos on it.
She talks about it often it's one of the worst things you can do or your skin
How long should we double cleanse? 60secs? 120secs?
She mentioned it in this video, vlog: 60 second face wash? growing herbs and tasting durian, but she said 60-120 seconds is too long. You should just be first cleansing to break up the dirt on your face and then the second cleanse to help wash it away. I do follow one derm who does advise the 45-60 second timing but it's dependent on the individual and she doesn't recommend double cleansing unless you're wearing water resistant sunscreen or heavy makeup.
there is no defined time...it varies with how much makeup you have on
Do you wipe it off the balm or oil before washing with the soap?
Most cleansing oils/balms have surfactants in them that helps them break down and rinse away with water. She puts on her balm/oil, rubs it around her face, gets in the shower and cleanses it off before using her other cleanser. But yes, you can use a soft towel/cloth to gently remove before your second step.
@@db-gb5xi thanks! I was wiping it off with tissue gently and then washing with soap
Yes; am use a soft wet warm towel😉
Even acne prone??
Just wondering, can I use the same cleanser to cleanse twice
No, if you do so you’re gonna end up not cleansing well enough and striping your skin even more
The purpose of the oil based cleanser is to break up all the dirt, makeup, or sunscreen on your face, and the purpose of the water based cleanser is to wash everything off.
I've seen derms who say you can double cleanse with the same cleanser. Just make sure it's for your skin type and you aren't cleansing for a long time.
Does anyone know, When you start this process is it normal to have a purging period? Because I feel like when I started to do this I broke out with tons and tons of sebum around my whole chin and the sides. And also kind of near the jawline. So I stop. I don't know if maybe I'm using the wrong kind of oil or what! Please help! I have very oily starting to age skin. My face definitely feels cleaner afterwards but I feel like it doesn't last.
True purging is only caused by ingredients that speed up cell turnover so if either your oil cleanser or water-based cleanser includes things like salicylic acid or an alpha hydroxy acid, that could be responsible for it. Otherwise, perhaps your skin doesn’t get along with the specific oils and/or fragrances/extracts in the products. I hope that helped!
This happened to me too. I ran out of benzoyl peroxide so I am using a salicylic acid face wash.
@@davidle3567 thanks!
my skin is so dry that I use oil cleanser at first and then a cleansing milk...
Can you use salicylic acid if you have acne free dry mature skin and what would be the benefits
I only use it twice a week as exfolient and I also have dry mature skin.
@@Veronica-fc9td thank you so much
Ic so we still need to double cleanse even if we dont wear make up yet wear sunscreen
You can if you want. At least one derm I follow only advises double cleansing if you are wearing water resistant sunscreen or makeup.
I feel I need to double cleanse to get sunscreen off , it's really up to you and your skin and your cleanser. No you don't have to if the one step is working fine for you
It was only a "short video, but Dr Dray normally cleanses her ears and neck too. I also presume Dr Dray rinses off the first oil cleanser before she applies the second cleanser. It's important to cleanse off the oil cleanser well when you are applying sunscreen, primer and/or eye makeup straight afterwards.
👱♀️❤
Wait you wouldn't be double cleansing in the morning before make and sunscreen....it's for evenings when cleaning everything off.
I see what you mean, but I double cleanse in the late afternoon or evening on some days when I am getting ready to go to work in the evening, or going out at night.
Sometimes I don't wash my face in the morning, if I have a morning start. But then again, if I have had heavier serums or moisturisers on my eyes & eyelashes overnight I want to make sure my eyes aren't greasy in the morning. I use oil free sunscreen around my eyes.
I suppose because my days are not all the same, I do things differently to others. Thanks so much for your message.
