Yes, but who allowed him to move in that house in the first place? My folks would’ve said you’re pregnant by some jobless dirtbag who already has a bunch of kids?! Go move in with HIS mother!
@@sdmsdm7926 Hear hear! Our elder daughter got involved with a similar worthless dirtbag, much older than her, with a bunch of kids, 'ex's', AND a new, younger partner at the time with whom he had a toddler. Very charming, very smarmy, ALSO Scottish, l might add, he managed to charm the socks off our daughter who had just split up with her then current boyfriend. The guy was a busker who had played and sung in our place (we own a bar/restaurant with rooms), years previously and had been very popular, He & his then partner (and their kids) had stayed with us off & on, and our young daughter must have been impressed by him. We lost contact with this individual for decades until my husband 'rediscovered' him on FB & more or less invited him along to sing in the bar again that summer. He came with new partner & toddler in tow, and, to our HORROR, immediately seduced our daughter who was living with us again after splitting up with her boyfriend. Of course, we knew what he was angling at - he was quite prepared to stay with us, appendages and all, while he sealed his relationship with our daughter, feeling quite at home & in no hurry to move out. My husband & l couldn't believe it, and spent the next year & a half doing everything in our power to get him out of our daughter's life. He hung in like a limpet, would not go away, and we were very afraid that he would get our daughter pregnant and ensure himself a free pass to our property (rather valuable at the time.) To cut a long story short, we finally phoned his ex and told her the whole story. She was obviously afraid of him & didn't want to get involved, but DID tell us that this was his usual MO to get himself 'into' places, and the best thing our daughter could do was to 'run like hell'!. Eventually, our daughter 'saw the light' after some dubious past actions of his became apparent, and we were able to 'rescue' her, but only after threatening to disinherit her and her storming off to live in another country for a few months. The guy still didn't desist until it was obvious she wasn't going to answer any more of his calls, and he ex partner had told him that we were involved and were 'onto him'. Fortunately, everything blew over and our daughter is now happily married to a very nice, hard-working man. Phew!! I feel for the Cosgrove family, and am sure that if Maureen could have had the support of her husband, none of this would ever have happened.
I feel very sorry for Maureen who list her life partly because she lost her husband. If there had been a man in her house, there's no way this utter bum & wastrel would have wormed his way in. Men have a way of feeling extremely uncomfortable with other men who are bums, and will kick them out in the blink of an eye. These same bums tend to dominate and disrespect women and will linger around, refusing to take 'no' for an answer. As a mother who has been through TWO ordeals involving worthless bums who managed to get involved with one of my daughters, l'm just very glad & grateful that l had my husband by my side to help me with the task of getting rid of them. The Cosgrove case is very close to my heart......this is what can happen when you let these kind of dossers into your home & life. They stay. Then it's you or them.Thirteen years is not enough - this guy should have been given 'life'.
George would have never moved into my home. If Sally needed him she wouldn't have moved back either. I am surprised her brothers didn't object to this lowlife being in their mother's home. I don't understand these people. I truly have difficulty understanding people living lives of drama.

The Cosgrove daughter was targeted by a narcissist. He got her pregnant with an eye on an easy life. His mother would’ve also been murdered to give him the life he thought he deserved. The only thing that saved his mother was, he didn’t get away with the first murder! Is as cold and calculating as that! Even the judge fell for it, that’s how practiced narcissists can be.
The detective: ‘George immediately stood out from the other members of the family, he came across as softly spoken, quite charming and very eager to help.’ If I were a loud mouth, belligerent unhelpful member of that family, I would be terribly offended! 😆
Devastating series of horrific events. Hope all of their beautiful children are rebuilding their lives together and staying close to each other. May both their father and mother be reunited within eternal heavenly peace 🙏
One of the scariest and admirable things about UK policing and Australian policing is just how methodical they are, they can start absolutely nothing and just walk forward fastidiously and at times it makes their investigations unstoppable.
No one ever deserves this, & I hope that these people who murder others, get what they deserve, & which is to be put in prison indefinitely, & NEVER released, and they must be held accountable for their actions, there is NO EXCUSE for this, EVER.
What a good for nothing daughter...a pariah, her & George both...Maureen should never have let her daughter come & live with her but make her stand on her own two feet, get a job & pay her own way, & him to, instead of mooching of her mother.
Daughter was a mo ro nic thot. Edit: I wrote that comment when I was angry and I feel like it was a bit harsh because she'd lost her dad and gotten divorced. But women must learn to recognise red flags and this oxygen thief she hooked up with was full of them. Better to be single and have her mother's love than to hook up with a toxic malicious killer, a real wastrel.
Does anyone know what suicide does to a family? This poor girl was still trying to come to terms with her fathers tragic death. This made her extremely vulnerable. Con men like George would find her easy prey, easy to con. Sally was there for her mum. They were supporting each other when in steps George. Sally could not have known what a monster he was. She deserves as much support as the rest of the family, not vilifying!
A clear case of decent honourable and hard working people casting their pearls before swine. This useless apology for a man, a lazy self indulgent sponger, should never have crossed the threshold. I hope the daughter can live with the consequences of her terrible choice.
she was too desperate that she ignored all the red flags. She saw them all. No Job, 40 yrs old and living with his mother, lazy, willing to sponge off your elderly mother, messy, entitled, jealous and possessive, rude.
The daughter was perhaps not in the best place emotionally, with a failed marriage and losing her dad. Being vulnerable, she was probably an easy target for George. Maureen was probably a bit vulnerable too, living alone, having lost her husband. She was probably glad that her daughter had found someone else after her break-up. And Maureen did lay down the law when George didn’t make an effort to find a job, not taking him on holiday after he’d behaved badly on the first one…
Hell no! Why would you have a man in your space who won’t work, taking up all the resource, living with his mom and off benefits?? He is a cad and a USER. Why would you bring that into your mom’s house and leave her to manage all that after all she has lost? He did NOT LOVE HER. SHE WAS A CONVENIENT MEAL TICKET THAT he was USING. HELL NOOOOOOO! The UK justice system always makes me angry. They spend a lot of time and money to find the murderer and then they feel sorry for him/her. They care more for the criminals than for the victims and their families. I would have not only thrown him earlier, I won’t even have him live in my home. Her daughter shouldn’t have done this to her mother , shouldn’t have brought a lazy moocher to her mom’s home.

She was an irresponsible waste of space, she was no teenager, she should’ve been on birth control if she was so busy out there having sex! The mother is to blame as well because she should’ve told the both of them good luck go find your own place to live especially since she never cared for that bum her daughter was sleeping with. Sometimes we create our own hell.
its a MINIMUM of 13 years till eligable for parole, if his parole is denied his sentance will continue; but i agree a minimum of 13 years is shamfully low.
Shocking story. The warning signs were there - unemployed living with an elderly mother...... and no occupation or money..... Very sad for the Cosgroves.
IKR, but it's UK and they seem MUCH more lax from what I've seen and been told by my British friends. It's absurd. I have devastating RA, but I even had to go in in-person to meet with a Soc Security officer and endured a drawn out process. 😕🇺🇸
I don't know if you are referring to disability payments in the UK or the US. I live in the US and it is extremely difficult to qualify for disability payments here. I personally know two people who needed disability, but had to apply time and time again for it even though they qualified for it. If they had not had people to help them they would have been homeless. After a long and arduous applying time and time again they finally got their due. Then you see people like this and what in the world!
I’ve been told it’s far easier (in the US) to get disability if you have a mental illness rather than a physical disability. Think depression or anxiety.

The "honourable" judge made sure that he won't be inside for long. These so called "justice providers" themselves do injustice too, so many a times. Infuriating. And i won't be surprised if that wife of his takes him back too after his release.
A broke unemployed man on public assistance should never be a consideration of a life partner! And even worse if he has kids with several other women! Love em & leave em, can't hold a job and anger issues. If you're vulnerable after losing a parent, do yourself a favor and don't date! Accept support from solid long term friends and spend some time alone.
I hope you’re an only child (and same goes for all of you who “liked” the comment”) You really think she doesn’t feel bad enough without your cowardly anonymous victim shaming?
Good God … that initial sentence was a joke. So someone “under stess” who wouldn’t hold a job to support his coming child is given special treatment? Some judges defy understanding.
So...let's get this straight... You have this loser that doesn't support his kids, doesn't want a job, doesn't help around the house, stalks his wife (or meal ticket) and this is the outcome. Very sad because she was of course vulnerable but the Mom saw through him.
this is why you dont take homeless bums into your house.. theres issues there that they havent resolved in years, even decades.. and youre not going to fix it.. murdered.. over $5O .. rip dear woman..
I am constantly amazed at how stupid some criminals appear. They seem totally unaware that in today's world everyone and his cat has a cell phone with a camera AND there are CCTV cameras EVERYWHERE. How on earth do they think they can make any move at all without it being captured dozens of times on cameras scattered all over the place. And yet, they stupidly carry on with their nefarious actions apparently blithely unaware that their every move is being recorded. They couldn't be any more obvious if they asked a policeman to hold their beer while they commit the crime.
Some people involved in these crimes are just unlucky victims but I notice that these poor souls are very few instances. Most of them were looking for trouble (unconsciously of course) by showing an unbeleievable amount of frivolity, or naivety or by not wanting to put their children or relatives out. Hospitality and good will towards your children and relatives is completely different from pampering or accepting a stranger into your household just to fill your empty space or your heart.
I agree. My father's parents had lots of down on their luck family members needing help and I think that is why my parents were better at putting up barriers to that kind of thing and why I am relatively strong about it too.
I still say criminals are stupid…everything can be tracked these days…you delete anything it can be retrieved yet it doesn’t deter them…the justice system needs to change..the sentences are ridiculous…how can such a lenient sentence be enough for ending someone’s life and destroying the family…it’s a lifetime sentence for them why not the criminal!! RIP Maureen ❤
Luckily, my parents drilled into us children to get an education while they were paying, and get a good job that we'd be able to support ourselves with. They were children of the Depression, and had had to quit school at 14 yrs old and had struggled in ways they saw others with adequate education didn't have to. In my early 20s, I briefly dated a guy on benefits. It didn't take my long to figure out if I was going to do it all on my own, I certainly didn't need a leech who wasn't contributing in any way.
She was vulnerable, with poor self-worth and being manipulated by a dangerous person. Happens the world over and she cannot have imagined it would result in her mother's death. I think she's suffered quite enough.
You sound quite pleased and smug about that? What about his mummy too, maybe it's her fault? or his ex girlfriends faults. God forbid it's just the manipulative, controlling narcissists fault.
Yes Sally got taken up with the wrong guy and now she has to raise her baby on her ( better off if you ask me) and that's sad for the child. She didn't have anything to do with her mother's death. Tons of us have fallen for the wrong guy and he took advantage of it by being a worthless and lazy scumbag murderer.
He was a jobless dirtbag living with his mommy & on welfare when she met him, yet, she chose to have sex with the LOSER knowing damn well she wasn’t even on birth control. She was just as much a waste of space as he was, she was clearly spoiled by two parents who had done well for themselves. She was still living at home at her age? Come on now! Get a job & move out & on with your life instead of taking advantage of Mom.
people buy the wrong pet every day; but when you find out it's a rattler not a garden snake; you don't take it home and throw on your widowed, defenseless, elderly, mother.
I can't believe that judge... No, wait a minute I can; they're all damn useless when it comes to sentencing monsters like him. I also found it weird as shown in the reenactment (which may not be accurate) that 'Sally' was less concerned about her mother being murdered than her boyfriend being charged with it. If the police took my car away for forensic testing after a murder, I'd consider that they'd also have bugged it. That's why the creep's apology sounded so fake, though it just could have been bad acting.
Lord Chief Justice said: “We have concluded there was a disproportionate reduction in the sentence available in this case. “We shall order that the minimum term be increased to 18 years.”
My heart goes out to the whole family. The traumatic loss of their dad. The daughter, Sally's innocence and the mother's acceptance of Sally's boyfriend living in the family home and also the lovely son, talking us through their distressing experiences. The mother could see through George but I think maybe the whole family should have sat down and discussed having a meeting with George. The mum was old and vulnerable and tired of her daughter's 'hanger-on'. Some victims say that murder happens to other people and wasn't meant to happen to them. Looking at this sad documentary I think that murder can happen to anyone and everyone.
Fathers don't realize how much damage their absence causes. Grifters gravitate towards homes with absent or weak fathers. Probably if the father had been there, this guy wouldn't have been allowed to move in unless he got a job. Depressed people don't realize how important they are! It's sad that nobody noticed his symptoms in time.

I often think that there would be less women murdered if men had a better understanding how how ignorant they are about how to get away with that kind of crime, because so many men leave so much evidence, but this might be the best example of that I've ever seen.
I should also say that another pattern we see in too many men, is that they either use past trauma in the woman's life against them, or don't seem to care about the past trauma, & knowing how their father died, & killing their mother in such a similar way, really shows the depth of selfishness in him.
@@PaganPunk In the UK only 5 percent of females are in jail and 95 percent of males in jail. Men need to really look their own behaviour and do something about their anger management, and need for status and control

Maureen was obviously a kind and loving mum and did what she thought was best at the time.

The Cosgrove daughter was targeted by a narcissist. He got her pregnant with an eye on an easy life. His mother would’ve also been murdered to give him the life he thought he deserved. The only thing that saved his mother was, he didn’t get away with the first murder!

I don't know if you are referring to disability payments in the UK or the US. I live in the US and it is extremely difficult to qualify for disability payments here. I personally know two people who needed disability, but had to apply time and time again for it even though they qualified for it.
And also all of them carry their phones with them every time, and the phone tower data places them on the crime scene. Every damned time.
Lol yep and they often Google how to kill/how to hide a body etc on their personal devices.. Crazy stupid stuff
Please don't tell my cats that other cats have mobiles!! ......
im pretty sure they're well aware and just dont give a fuck. They dont value human life including their own.
For once stupidity is a blessing!
Ridiculous jail sentence 😢😢😢
What an awful person. I'm so sorry for the family's loss.
They need to build more prisons in England & adopt life without parole laws...
Luckily, my parents drilled into us children to get an education while they were paying, and get a good job that we'd be able to support ourselves with.
