@cainmac …?? What is wrong with the view point that if a parent be it the father or mother kills their children’s parent that that murderers family should not benefit in any way when it comes to having custody over the future welfare of those children. If a man murders his wife and they have children together I completely agree that his mother and father who raised him should not be allowed to be the sole caregiver or responsible guardian for those children. Sure there is the argument that was previously stated that they (the parents to the murderer) have raised someone capable of murder and clearly messed something up along the way. However, I think that is more important to note that the relationship that the children would then have access to with the parent who murdered their mother. It is important to understand how detrimental it would be to be raised by people who still love and adore the person who murdered your mother. That the whole dynamics would be so profound and powerful and to the innocent child how would they ever recover and rectify their feelings . I think it is so very important that the children be removed and placed with the most suitable family member who has been screened and scrutinised to withstand the ongoing needs of the child/children.
I do believe that is almost always better that the children stay with close family of the parent who was murdered. So that they can help that child grieve and to also grow up surrounded by stories and photos of their parent which would be unlikely to happen in a household where the relative who killed their parent was on the walls.

The fact he knew what was in that house, and he allowed her mother and her family to go and discover that, is truly one of the most shocking things I've ever heard. That poor family, not only losing their daughter/sister in that manner, but the last image they have of her, is her in that way.
    Lost for words.

What's interesting is I've heard the EXACT same "steps" he took in other true crime stories, where the husband killed the wife... then kept calling to "check in", then sending someone else to "discover" the body... "ransacking" the place but not really taking anything.
Not original at all, and thank goodness...helps catch them quicker.

This account of the Rachel O'Reilly murder case is truly gut-wrenching and sheds light on the complexities of human emotions, deception, and the pursuit of justice. The first part sets the scene with a glimpse into the seemingly ordinary life of Rachel and Joe O'Reilly, which takes a dark turn with Rachel's tragic murder. The second part delves deep into the intense trial that followed, revealing a web of lies, betrayal, and manipulation that unraveled before the eyes of the court.
The way the evidence was meticulously presented during the trial, from emails and text messages to phone triangulation, showcased the increasing role of technology in modern legal proceedings. It's incredible to see how digital footprints were used to piece together a motive and paint a vivid picture of what transpired.
The emotional turmoil faced by Rachel's family, especially her mother Rose, is heartrending. Their unwavering determination to seek justice and remember Rachel's life is both inspiring and moving. The culmination of the trial, with Joe O'Reilly's guilty verdict and subsequent life sentence, offers a sense of closure, yet the aftermath continues to haunt.
This case serves as a reminder of the fragility of human life, the power of evidence, and the lengths that loved ones will go to in order to ensure justice prevails. Let us never forget Rachel's story and the strength of those who stood up for her. 💔🕯️🙏

His family retained custody of those innocent children, I’m sure they will have been feed a skewed story. For their entire lives the children will be taught one version of their mother and her family, that is the saddest part. Nobody is perfect but to be murdered because your an inconvenience to his lifestyle and family is disgusting. Thank you for giving Rachel and her family a voice ❤

I hope her family gets custody. In the US, that’s generally the case, after a due process custody hearing. I’m not sure what the law is in Ireland.

Naaaaah. He sent her own mother to find her beaten body. That alone should get him an additional 10 years for pure spite and cruelty.

I agree. This needs to be an additional criminal offence

I’m glad I found Truly Criminal. The stories are so tragic+ sad, it’s unbelievable there are people out there with such hatred.

Just the fact that he mentioned to the police at the scene that he had touched her makes me suspicious
